If there is one thing i have learned in my days watching the Middle East is that there has been no country that has received more death, bomb and anything else you want to imagine threats every single day. One would imagine the country that exists in the hotbed of one of the worlds most volatile place, and the center of the regions problem would be always be on its toes, facing disaster on every step it takes. From its inception Israel has been the victim of countless wars, and terrorist attacks, from Yom Kippur war(which they were able to win though fairness can be fought over), to citizen's being killed by bomb attacks. With this in mind one would wonder why there has been so few airplane hijacking or bombings on Israeli Airlines or Airports. The same could be said about the British with their issue with IRA but for now it would be best to focus on Israel as a test subject. While the opposite can be said about the Americans who have had a not so great track record on airport security. For now i will focus on the Israeli airport of Ben Gurion, the International airport located in Tel Aviv. The system that the Israeli set up has many procedures in it, but the recurring factor in every single one of these steps, is one thing, the so called "human factor". You may be familiar with the saying "guns don't kill people, people kill people". Well this is the very same process that is placed into the very system itself. For what is important to remember is that people with bombs are the ones detonating it and catching them would be important. The steps usually are many and are as follows. First off is the arrival check. All vehicles are checked and words are regularly exchanged with the guards and the passenger, while guards on the doors keep an eye on people entering an leaving. The arrival from the front door is hard to detect but one could say they usually detect people they believe are a threat while those sweeping the cars are able to do a more thorough check, as their talks with the occupants lets them gauge how many people, intentions etc. Next after getting through entrance you usually go through the counter, over here you speak with agents who usually ask you a bunch of questions, this usually for them to find inconsistency in your response or to make you panic. After that, the agent usually gets up and talks to one of the other agents and they compare notes, usually leading to a second questioning of sometimes the same questions, after which if all goes to accordance you can get through. During these processes if anyone seems suspicious or out of place Israeli security guards would approach these individuals or groups and engage in a small conversation, trying to get more info about them to find things that have been repeated before. The funny thing though is that although most Western airports have introduced new technology, the Israeli Ben Gurion International Airport relies traditionally on metal detectors, a statement of their confidence in their system. Most important of all is that the Ben Gurion airport never hires private or foreign contractors, instead relying on Israel's highly trained army graduates. This may be the deciding factor on security as there is not middleman to deal with and less bureaucracy to deal with. upon this the group is more highly trained and are expected to work at a higher standard than a private company would expects, as contractors usually are focused on money not safety. With this in mind and the great track record of the Israeli Airlines, one would wonder why would not other countries follow the same system. After all with its high efficiency and its history any sensible government would adopt the same policy. So why is it that the US government has such big problems in their system, why do other countries become victims of hijacking etc, yet are still repeating the same mistake. After all if a simple metal detector is all that is needed as equipment to create the most secure airport in the world, why is everyone wasting time and money on useless tech when airport resources could be better spent somewhere else? P.S. Did not talk about pressure chambers that are used for screening baggage's. Used to detonate any bombs within baggage.
