The Traveler: More Machine Than Intelligence

Hey(I know it’s lengthy but, I had to be clear, because I think I make some clear points. Anyway…). I had a theory that’s been buzzing in my head about the Traveler being a device of a different race, similar to how the halo rings were a product of the forerunners. Seeing as how Rasputin apparently was able to assume some kind of control or influence over the Traveler in some way, is it not possible that the Traveler is a device. My evidence for this comes in the form of it’s abilities and dialog from the game: “Great cities were built on mars and venus. Mercury became a garden world. Human lifespan tripled.” If memory serves I even heard something about the traveler teaching humanity of how to attain space travel and make incredible advances in technology. These clues tell me that the Traveler has terraforming properties and carries a collective information much like the forerunner domain from halo. I think it’s possible that the traveler was created by a different species for the use of interplanetary/galactic expansion. Used to carry ancestral information and planet changing energy for in-habitation. Now at some point the darkness, whatever it or they may be came to find this race or it’s creation as a target, for whatever reason, and targeted the race, leaving the Traveler to either be sent away or escape on some emergency programming. After being adrift for who knows how long, it found a new race to provide it’s aid and assistance. There in, performing it’s main directive. To protect, terraform, relay collective info, and assist in colonization, as it did for it’s previous species. This would explain why Rasputin would be able to, in some way directly control the Traveler. Because it’s a machine and not an intelligence or living organism withing the hard shell. That is unless the Rasputin notified the traveler of the dakness’s arrival. Another clue is one of common sense on the Travelers part. Let’s say that it is of a sentient intelligence. If you were being chased by an ancient and hateful enemy that wants to destroy any trace of you, why would you affiliate yourself with another race unable at the time of combating this darkness, because guardians were not present at the collapse, and in turn lead it to that race, were it would want to destroy it for it’s relationship with the traveler. The ally of my enemy can be your enemy as well. Outside of it just being stupid, I would say that it had to be running on some kind of programmed directives or very basic A.I. and in this would not believe that it would be pursued. One more possibility is that the darkness wants the traveler, not out of anger for IT, but for everything that lives in the light and wants the traveler’s terraforming abilities, collective intelligence, information and energy so that it can use it as a weapon. Much like the dark elves from thor: the dark world and their use of the aether infinity stone to cover the universe in darkness. As for the ghosts. Well, that’s another story.
