The Vex and the Cabal Theory
Looking into the Vex, I managed to find something very interesting with their names and their war with the Cabal.
The Vex Ranks:
- Harpies
- Goblins
- Hobgoblins
- Minotaurs
- Hydras
The Cabal Ranks:
- Psions
- Legionnaires
- Centurions
- Colossuses
Now, I'm no historian, but as I recall the names for the Vex are mythical creatures out of the Greek Myths, or something and the Cabal are references to Roman ranks. This has something to do with the reason they fight each other. I'm sure of it, if you haven't noticed they Vex and the Cabal fight each other on Mars. Just an interesting thing I found.
But, wait! There's more!
The Cabal and the Vex are both war based races. Is it possible that the Cabal made the Vex in order to take the casualties from a previous war off their shoulders? Did the Vex rebel against them? Evidence to this might be a simple statement on the organization of the Vex and the sheer brutality of the Cabal. They seem to be two things that you would see going together. Cabal heavies in the back and Vex in the front taking the pain for the sentient things. Not a lot of evidence to it, though.
About that Dragon though... I think the Dragon is related to the Cabal, there is a place on Mars called Charlemagne's Vault which contains the exotic hand cannon Thorn and might possibly be a Strike where you beat the so called Master of the Dark, or the Dragon. I want to know what people think about this. all of this is interesting.

1 ReplyI doubt the cabal have any direct connection to the vex other than being enemies. In regard to the Vex specifically, their design smacks ancient Egypt. Either the devs used that as just a basis for design...or they intend to make a connection somewhere down the line to ancient earth history IMO. Also, the use of dimensional portals and the vex design, has the movie "Stargate" all over it.

I've never known goblins and hobgoblins to have Greek Roman origins. Thought it was more western European origin. But hydras and the rest absolutely..... one more day I am fiending bad.

Interesting concept. I like the relationship based on mythology. Also it sounds like conflict similar to the Geth from Mass Effect too. However I think the dragon may be some sort of hive like creation of the darkness.

But, there is more than meets the eye as to why they are connected. Both of them are bent of domination through numbers or brute force. Also, the Dragon has been a hot topic since the launch trailer release. All I know is that you get an achievement called Dragon Slayer for Killing a Champion of the Dark. Notice that it is kill [u][i][b]A[/b][/i][/u] champion of the dark. Is there more than one dragon.

Theory is shit, the vex are a transdimensional time traveling species that out dates the cabal empire. Thanks for the observation on their names though. I hadn't noted that bit

I would not think of the cabal as having made the vex in order to stop the casualties. I think the Cabal are most akin to the Mandalorians from Star Wars a race of warriors born to fight for guts and glory and die with honor.

The cabal and vex maybe enemies but I don't think they are related in the way you state. Cabal don't seem like the type to put machines in front of them to do the dirty work. Cabal would rather be in the front line taking enemies down. They are repressed as having a warriors instinct. You are right for sure they do represent the government of Rome. My theory on the vex is that since they time travel, in some time line Rasputin created them. But I will not go into details on that on your post. I don't want to take away from what you created. I talked about this on a couple other posts in Killworthy if you want to read up on it.
