Game chat vs Party Chat
Recently, I was invited into a DoD raid group with a Crota CP, and while we were in orbit, we were having issues hearing one another.
Specifically, I was able to hear the other raid members but for some reason they could not hear me (my standard setup is to use the xbone headset mic and wireless seinheisser headphones and route chat through speakers/blended). A few of the members kept telling me to switch chat from game to party.
While I am aware of how to do this during Crucible matches via D-pad flipping when dinklebot is summoned, I guess I am unaware as to how this is accomplished in the rest of the Destiny universe. I am hoping this will solve a lot of the mic/audio issues I am having...although I still suspect the Xbox headset and mic may be shorting out as well.

Use player's profiles (xbox home or within destiny's roster) or launch the xbox party app. Hard for me to feel good about this explanation, especially when rushed. Hope this helps but perhaps someone else can fill in the blanks.
