Warlock Builds Database

Compared to other games I have played, I find that the Destiny forums lacks a substantive discussion on the abilities of each class or theorycrafting. This is to be a place for people to discuss and compile ideas about builds for our warlocks. Please submit your ideas :) Because of the character limits on these forums, I was not able to fit all the builds into one post. As such, I have dedicated one comment/post to each build. This way, if you have any questions about the builds, you can reply just to that comment rather than the OP. Also, if you wish to share a build, please try to follow the format of the other posts. It will be easier for people to follow if we are all consistent. Plus, it will help you organize your thoughts and include all relevant information :) _____________________________________ Disclaimer: I am in no way claiming that I came up with these ideas or that I am the first to suggest them. If you have tried any of these builds, let me know what your success/failure was. If you have other ideas, feel free to post them (and please do :) ).

__________________________________________________ ||||| Voidwalker - Grenade Mastery ||||| __________________________________________________ Gear: - Skull of Dire Ahamkara (or legendary - read explanation) - Gloves with Serpent's Tail Weapons: - Anything with grenadier on it Abilities: - Angry Magic/Annihilate (or The Hunger - read explanation) - Embrace the Void Stats: - Max Discipline Explanation/Playstyle: - Skull of Dire Ahamkara improves your energy drain, further reducing the cooldown of your grenade. The hunger increases the duration of your energy drain. HOWEVER, The Hunger and Dire Ahamkara do NOT stack. The "delusions of grandeur" perk on Dire Ahamkara essentially provides you with The Hunger perk. This frees you up to use either Annihilate or Angry Magic, depending on your preference. Alternatively, you can use a different helm and select The Hunger as your perk in the skill tree. Embrace the void triggers the energy drain effect any time you damage someone with either a grenade or nova bomb. Serpent's tail reduces the cooldown of your grenade whenever you deal damage with your melee. Grenadier reduces the cooldown of your grenade for every enemy you kill. Finally, stacking DIS will reduce the cooldown of your grenade. Stats max out around 272, so any additional stat points should go into intellect. It is more effective (I think) to have the extra intellect to build super because with Embrace the Void, your super will also reduce your grenade cooldown, so super cooldown is effective for reducing grenade cooldown. __________________________________________________

__________________________________________________ ||||| Voidwalker - Nova Bomb Mastery ||||| __________________________________________________ Gear: - Obsidian Mind Weapons: - Bad Juju Abilities: - Shatter - Bloom - Soul rip Stats: - Max intellect Explanation/Playstyle: - Anyone who has tried this build knows how serious it is. See Deadpool's comment below for a conversation about which abilities to use with this OM + BJ build. I personally get better results with shatter, angry magic, and bloom. When adds spread out, shatter allows you to cover a much larger area with nova bomb than vortex. Additionally, bloom will increase the effective explosion area from nova bomb. Soul rip is self-explanatory for any nova bomb build. It gives you a significant amount of super energy back for killing an enemy with Energy Drain. Be careful though. Hitting an enemy with energy drain will always trigger the energy drain effect, but unless you actually kill the enemy, you won't get additional super energy. It's better to save your melee for enemies that you have weakened and will be a guaranteed kill with melee. With this build, you can chain supers by killing large groups, using bad juju and energy drain to kill individual mobs in between, then using your super on the next big group. So much fun :) __________________________________________________

__________________________________________________ ||||| Voidwalker - Speed demon ||||| __________________________________________________ Gear: - Claws of Ahamkara Weapons: - Whatever you kill best with Abilities: - Surge Stats: - Max strength - Max agility - Balance discipline and intellect (to your liking) Explanation/playstyle: - This is a new build that I have been tinkering with. Surge is an interesting perk that I don't see many people using. Most use soul rip or life steal. Surge gives you movement and weapon speed boosts. With Claws of Ahamkara, you get two charges of surge. This build is designed to be up in the fray, but not tank-like like the Titan. With the speed boosts, you should be able to move from cover to cover and keep hitting enemies while moving through the battlefield. For the final class perks you can play around with either bloom or the hunger/embrace the void build. With bloom, you have the potential to do a lot of damage on each melee charge - especially if you are using your speed boosts to get in strategic locations behind groups of enemies. If you go with the hunger/embrace the void combo, you will get a lot of grenade cooldown, which in turn will reduce your melee cooldown (if you are using your grenades) which gives more speed! __________________________________________________

__________________________________________________ ||||| Sunsinger - Solar Grenade Mastery ||||| __________________________________________________ Gear: - Sunbreaker gauntlets Weapons: - Anything with grenadier on it Abilities: - Solar Grenade - Gift of the Sun Stats: - Max Discipline - Everything else in Intellect Explanation/Playstyle: - There is a lot of hate out there for the sunbreakers. I still use mine from time to time depending on the encounter, because with radiance active (and maximum discipline), you can get 4 solar grenades all burning at the same time. Let that sink in. Whether it is for terrain control or for damage, 4 grenades all burning at the same time is pretty awesome. This build is a little less offensive and is probably better utilized staying back and helping control enemy movement with grenades. As such, song of flame would be a good perk if you are running in a group. You would be playing much more of a support role. Playing solo, it is probably better to run radiant skin (i am ignoring fireborn because it only has usefulness in death). __________________________________________________

__________________________________________________ ||||| Sunsinger - Fusion Grenade Mastery ||||| __________________________________________________ Gear: - Starfire Protocol - Gloves with Serpent's Tail Weapons: - Anything with grenadier Abilities: - Fusion grenade - Touch of Flame - Radiant Will (or maybe Viking Funeral, see below) Stats: - Max Discipline - Everything else in Intellect Explanation/Playstyle: - Because Starfire protocol gives you two fusion grenades, gift of the sun is useless (no third fusion grenade...). For PvE, angel of light is not as useful as touch of flame. Radiant will increases the duration of radiance which will allow you to get more grenades off, which seems to be more beneficial for a grenade build. Viking funeral is nice in that the grenades will burn harder and longer, but if we are going solely for maximum number of grenades, radiant will is the way to go. This build is pretty easy, just spam grenades until your super is up, then keep spamming grenades. __________________________________________________

__________________________________________________ ||||| Sunsinger - Orb Factory ||||| - submitted by OpTic HALOJUMP __________________________________________________ Gear: - Light Beyond Nemesis Weapons: - Whichever you kill best with Abilities: - Radiant will - Gift of the sun - Sunburst Stats: - max intellect - balance discipline and strength (to your liking) Explanation/Playstyle: - Just as the name suggests, this build is focused on generating as many orbs as possible. Sunburst will only proc on a kill with scorch. Remember, a regular melee does not always cast scorch. Scorch only casts when you have the melee ability charged. Because you are using light beyond nemesis, claws of ahamkara for additional scorch kills are not available. I would suggest using flame shield because you are going to have to get into the fray to get melee-kill orbs. Other than that, it is typically a sunsinger grenade build. DO NOT use fireborn, unless it is absolutely necessary. It is much more useful to use your super in an offensive manner, so try taking radiant skin OR (since this is a support class - making orbs) try out song of flame. In a group, others will benefit more from the cooldowns and orbs you produce. ______________________

First of all, AWESOME post! I wish there were more like it on these forums. I would like to contribute a build I've been working on since getting Heart of Praxic Fire last week. Let me know your thoughts. ________________________________________________ ||||| Sunsinger - Survival then DPS ||||| __________________________________________________ Gear: - Heart of Praxic Fire - Helmet with Quintessence Transfer - Gloves with Serpents Tail Weapons: - Whichever you kill best with Abilities: - Fusion Grenade - Fireborn - Flame Shield - Gift of the sun Stats: - max discipline and strength (about 250 each) The PVE idea is this: 1) Survive using Flame Shield and charge your grenades. 2) Chuck fusion grenades to down your enemies and charge your super. 3) Save your super in case you die or are at the boss. 4) If at the boss, activate super to throw grenades as fast as the animation will allow (thanks to high disipline and Praxic Fire)

  • Dude, great post. There really should be more theorycrafting forums for the classes. However I play all three classes. There is NO master race. Heck, they aren't even races. Awoken is a race, Warlock is a class. Good stuff though, really useful information for those looking for a build that works.

    • For an Orb of Light Generator I use max intellect and Light beyond Nemesis to support my team this could be considered a Support Strategy Light Beyond Nemesis Max INT Extended Super ability + Orbs of light ability on melee + dual grenades as an extra try to have high discipline for Grenades Note make sure you have high recovery and armor to prevent dying and losing super or having to waste self Resurrect. -Your Friendly Warlock Neighbor (OpTic HALOJUMP)

Great post! I just want to comment on the possibility of using Angry Magic for the Nova in the Nova Mastery Set. I combine Angry Magic with Scatter and Bloom, and the tracking properties of Angry Magic pretty much guarantee a kill per use, with range and angle of shor hardly ever mattering anymore. The tracking also combines beautifully with Shatter because the tree bombs can concentrate on one or two enemies, or spread widely to hit a much larger group of enemies. That setup has given me the best results so far. EDIT: F**KBERRIES, I went ahead of myself. You DID write that you actually go with that setup sometimes!!

      • Mind if I ask a few questions and provide some alternate options for you Warlocks? 1) is this for pve or pvp? As the build for each is different. A) For PvE, Obsidian Mind ( I see you have one), with Bad Juju which I see you have, but your build that you currently use is a little odd IMO, not saying wrong, cause we all play differently but Id make some adjustments to your current build and do the following. Gear, all raid gear with OM as the helmet. Embrace the Void, The hunger, and all armor and recovery (only for pve) but I would go away from the scatter grenades, I never found them worth while in any pve or heck pvp encounter. They just don't do the right damage to targets and have a limited range of AoE. I personally switch between the other two grenades depending on the pve encounter. But normally I will go with Axion bolt, as its range is great and can track enemies. While the Skull of Dire, is good, I prefer it in pvp as it protects you as you do your super. This combo with OM and Juju and this build will let you get your super very fast and then get it again as soon as you use Novabomb. I can cycle supers over and over with out a team, with a team its even better.
