Maybe you should write something that would fit in the type of genre of games they make. If you showed them what you showed us I wouldn't give you a second look either. I'm not trying to be rude just trying to help you out.

  • If your intention is to compare the hard work and effort this guy has put into writing/working to achieve something worthwhile with the utter shambles that is Destiny, as is, it can only be insulting, Vick If I wrote some hieroglyphics on a paper bag, in crayon, with my feet, it would be better than the story in this game. Christ knows, even you could probably do better. My cat could do better, actually. At least my cat seems to have a purpose, a context and some kind of self-awareness. This game...not so much, eh? Just why are you shooting all these aliens - can you sum it up? I'll give you 8 million words or less.

Not saying this game has a good story at all. It's not even really comparing it to destiny. Bungies games are all futuristic science fiction shooters. There is nothing wrong with his work at all! If you want a job somewhere give them stuff that fits in with what THEY DO! Im sure there are lots of people applying for that job. I'm not knocking his work at all you got that all wrong. He obviously has talent just try to create something that fits in with bungie

  • No you perhaps wouldn't hire that accountant - but I think Bungie would. In fact I think they already have. Not to reinvent the wheel here, as far as Destiny forum topics go, but there is a sharp, jagged, painful caesura between Bungie as they used to be and the weird organism they've become after fusing with Activision. Those simple 'science fiction shooters' they used to make - the games we both (apparently) know and presumably (at least once) loved - had bags of narrative, context and content, did they not? Is there anything like that in this hollow, endlessly grinding, futile sham of a game? I ask you in all honesty. The accountants you mentioned would say yes - based on player numbers, albeit PR-spun player numbers. More like little laboratory rats chasing RNG cheese around an endlessly repeating maze. Still, they keep playing, don't they, Vick? Wonder why...those little rats. Something is missing - too hasty to say that? I would say not. Perhaps no more mechanics, then, or accountants. Maybe instead a few creatives. Would that be asking too much? If this game succeeds then kiss that dream goodbye.

  • I agree with everything you have said. I'm just telling him to create something along the bungie lines. When he gets in the door then he can hopefully help create a game with a good meaningful story that he wants to make. As for destiny and bungie yes bungie has changed since activision came along. This game isn't bad. But it's not the story I hoped from bungie. The actual mechanics and gunplay are really good. And the raids and strikes are fun. It just should've been more than what it is now

  • But good writing is good writing. You don't necessarily have to write something exactly in the style of the game the company is producing. If you can create memorable characters and good dialogue, you can adapt those to any genre. I see where you're coming from and I have sci-fi based treatments and a slew of story lines, objectives, etc that I can present to them if I get the chance to interview. I wanted to present them with my best work, which in this case is my most commercial thus far.

  • Sick Like Vick has a point. When applying for a job, you're a step ahead of the game if you provide what the company is looking for. That's a big part of applying for a job, any job. It's the difference between hesitation on their part "He's good but can he do this?" to "Hell yeah! He's the man." You can be a Picasso but they're looking for a Matisse, so even if you know you could do what they need, they don't. They'll hire the person as close as possible to their needs. Good luck anyway, with your talent, you'll find the right place to be :)
In this case, I think you may be overly talented. Sorry if I'm so negative on Bungie, but honestly, I cannot understand such failure in the storytelling department with added overall lack of depth in this game. Makes me angry, and sad, because all the elements were there.
