The Vault of Glass is absolutely one of my favorite things to do, both raids are immensely fun with the right group, but it's painful when you don't get that one weapon/gear drop that you need.
Personally, I've only gotten a single chest armor drop from either raid, the VoG Chest piece on my hunter. I understand that the point in having the new raid gear boosting your light level is designed to make you "buy" more content from Bungie and is all about the bottom line, to be honest, I don't mind it. My concern is that there will be a new raid, with new gear and new weapons that make all of the old ones less useful.
The newest raid, Crota's End, has its own set of unique upgrade materials. That being said, they are obviously only obtainable by doing that raid. It's not confirmed yet as to what the House of Wolves raid will use for upgrade material, but radiant material seems likely. So the only way to upgrade the raid gear for two of the three raids is to have done the newest raids. While the Vault of Glass Raid gear will set in a terminal 30 light per piece and 300 attack cap. Using only ascendant materials that we, at least most of us, have plenty of just stockpiled for nothing really...

Here's my plan:
● While equipped, any raid weapon or armor piece may be rerolled through the speaker/gunsmith respectively using 10 motes of light per piece, upgrading it to the new highest level possible, i.e. 36 light or 331 attack as of now.
• This will reset all nodes in the gear. Similar to how Xur upgrades Exotics.
• Upon completion of this upgrade the final nodes for damage and defense, that used to require ascendant material, will now require radiant material instead.
• This method forces players to use the current standard materials earned through the DLC, hence requiring players to own the DLC in order to do so.
This will effectively allow, not only, a unique environment where players can have a boost to their level with gear that has become somewhat obsolete, but effectively solve the "everyone looks the same" problem. Additionally, when the light level is increased, to say 34, during the House of Wolves DLC, players will have three different sets of Raid gear to hit max level with and be able to use the perks they provide in harder versions of the raids.
Please let me know what you think and if you would be interested in this process.

Nope leave it as is, it's just the right thing to do.
-
No. Let stuff become obsolete otherwise there is no incentive/need to get the newer gear.

Edited by CloudNyine: 1/24/2015 7:14:40 PMIt's a lvl 26 raid. If anything, "upgrade" the hard mode drops like mytholocast that require lvl 30. Anything else deserves to stay within the lvl 26 catagory.
-
I like this idea but I don't think it should be able to get you to max level, maybe make it so you can get to, in this case lvl 31 but you still need the newest raid gear to get to max level.
-
Reusing content is a big no no... you can potentially buf lets say vog gear for one particular mission or future add on making it special but with little value outside of that mission. Personally I hate grinding xp if there was anyway to break down wepons but keep lets say 1/8th xp for rare weapons1/4th For legendary/exotic and maybe even cosmetic piece allowing to keep the look. Id think that would be bad ass but it simply wouldnt happen. How do yall feel about it?

You're just a crybaby who wants his fate bringer to stay relevant
-
no rerolling raid gear. Any MMO has outdated raid gear. New raids come out and the old gear becomes unused. This is the path of any MMO so get used to it and stop crying
-
Vanguard:30 VoG:31 Crota:32
-
Vendor gear should NEVER be higher level than any raid gear. Bungie better get their crap straight for Destiny 2 lol
-
i think it should be more then 10 motes since it makes the new raid gear useless and not worth the time to get
-
-
This is stupid.. You're only thinking about yourself, not the ppl who have yet to play the raid or the game for that matter. Maybe when you play the Vault of Glass, try wearing the old gear and using the weapons made for that raid.. I solved your problem. The raid is once again fun.
-
No thanks, I'm not a stuck in the past hippie.
-
Then Bungie would have to adjust the raid level, 30 for easy and 32 for hard, therefore ruinning the chances for new people to complete the raid.
-
You you could simply implement transmogrify ability. And I'd like to reroll gear attributes and perks also pls.
-
I figure eventually they'll release an extra hard level 32 mode with releveled gear

I was arguing that it was pointless to grind the raid for gear that would instantly be outdated on the 10th of March and the fact that everyone at the levelcap looks the same, this is one of the better solutions to both of those issues that I have seen. However, this would mean that there would still only be 4 sets at level cap (IB, VOG, CE & A), but that aside, the cost to upgrade the gear would have to be something different to ten motes of light as stuff that you can reasonably acquire around 26 + 10 motes shouldn't be able to jump you right up to max light. The plan of using the new materials to upgrade is good, but slightly flawed as they as still only currently obtainable from one source, possible solution? Add to VOG HM? Though this would be difficult to implement with non-DLC users. Another advantage of this would be it allowing you to mix skills from different raid sets too.

if you update the gear you take away the need to do new content repetedly while they make you wait for the next update. wont ever happen. /thread

They should have Vanity Slots, a slot next to your armor you're wearing, where you can put any piece of armor you want, your armor will keep it's stats but will gain the visual appearance of the armor that you put in the vanity slot.
-
At the most VoG gear should make you 31, nothing more.

This!

The gunsmith should be able to take a maxed 300 purple and 20,000 glimmer and bump it to 331. Make people think carefully about which to max.
