The Vault of Glass is absolutely one of my favorite things to do, both raids are immensely fun with the right group, but it's painful when you don't get that one weapon/gear drop that you need.
Personally, I've only gotten a single chest armor drop from either raid, the VoG Chest piece on my hunter. I understand that the point in having the new raid gear boosting your light level is designed to make you "buy" more content from Bungie and is all about the bottom line, to be honest, I don't mind it. My concern is that there will be a new raid, with new gear and new weapons that make all of the old ones less useful.
The newest raid, Crota's End, has its own set of unique upgrade materials. That being said, they are obviously only obtainable by doing that raid. It's not confirmed yet as to what the House of Wolves raid will use for upgrade material, but radiant material seems likely. So the only way to upgrade the raid gear for two of the three raids is to have done the newest raids. While the Vault of Glass Raid gear will set in a terminal 30 light per piece and 300 attack cap. Using only ascendant materials that we, at least most of us, have plenty of just stockpiled for nothing really...

Here's my plan:
● While equipped, any raid weapon or armor piece may be rerolled through the speaker/gunsmith respectively using 10 motes of light per piece, upgrading it to the new highest level possible, i.e. 36 light or 331 attack as of now.
• This will reset all nodes in the gear. Similar to how Xur upgrades Exotics.
• Upon completion of this upgrade the final nodes for damage and defense, that used to require ascendant material, will now require radiant material instead.
• This method forces players to use the current standard materials earned through the DLC, hence requiring players to own the DLC in order to do so.
This will effectively allow, not only, a unique environment where players can have a boost to their level with gear that has become somewhat obsolete, but effectively solve the "everyone looks the same" problem. Additionally, when the light level is increased, to say 34, during the House of Wolves DLC, players will have three different sets of Raid gear to hit max level with and be able to use the perks they provide in harder versions of the raids.
Please let me know what you think and if you would be interested in this process.

Bump want that 331 fatebringer

As long as you have to do Vault of Glass again to the get the upgraded gear and they would upgrade the difficulty with it to match the Crota-raid.

Like and bump

It should at least be brought up to the level of the -blam!-ing Vanguard armor you can just buy. It's made the VOG pointless, which really sucks because it is probably the content that had the most thought put into it in the entire game.

If they made it so that the gunsmith traded the new raid gear for the old, as in you could trade your Crota helm in to get your VoG helm to 36 light and it'd require the radiant shards, so it was just aesthetics rather than making it easier to get to the cap, I'd be ok with that. Maybe even with other legendaries too. Keep the stats on the old gear, but gain the cap for the new perhaps.

Wait, you've got to be joking. 10 motes of light to upgrade old raid gear to max current level? So you basically want to get handed max level for nothing? I love my fatebringer and VoC, however the only way I'd see it a legitimate process to upgrade them to 331 attack would be to require some kind of an item from the new raid as an exchange. For example make it a 1:1 swap. So for me to get my fatebringer to 331, I'd need to get the handcannon from crota HM and sacrifice it in the upgrade. Hell, I haven't even done Crota HM yet, but that is the only way this process could work.

Edited by Bishop2kb3: 1/25/2015 8:47:26 AMRandom loot drops/nightfall any lvl as theyre loot drops... Vendor 24 light:280/290 attack, vog 30 light we:300/310 attack, ce 36 light:331 damage, house of wolfs 42 light:350 damage (or higher, means people actually have to play the dam game) so straight from 20 people can only get to 106 light with full vendor armour and an exotic (current dlc 2.0 exotics) meaning they're 2 light of 29, they can run crota at a push being lvl 28 but would be more suited to run vog atleast once to get those extra 14 light to get to 30 and have a fair run in crota...

It's simple. Keep the Lvl 26 VOG run (great for 1st timers) but change the Lvl 30 run into the "easy" style (revives and such). Make a Lvl 32 that is the new hard mode where you can get all of the upgraded stuff.

No. You shouldn't be able to upgrade all gear to 32. What they need is, a level 32 Vault of Glass in which you can achieve them.
-
Nope I would be fine with lvl 32 vog if there was a level 32 version of the raid. Outside of that I see problem with this

Agreed. Doing a Raid is harder than getting 150 marks to buy a 331 weapon or 75 marks to get an armor piece, yet the VoG ones (except exotics) are just shoved aside. This is not expanding or giving players more choice, this is replacing and making some of the already limited content less appealing. Destiny desperately needs to expand, not just replace.
