The Vault of Glass is absolutely one of my favorite things to do, both raids are immensely fun with the right group, but it's painful when you don't get that one weapon/gear drop that you need.
Personally, I've only gotten a single chest armor drop from either raid, the VoG Chest piece on my hunter. I understand that the point in having the new raid gear boosting your light level is designed to make you "buy" more content from Bungie and is all about the bottom line, to be honest, I don't mind it. My concern is that there will be a new raid, with new gear and new weapons that make all of the old ones less useful.
The newest raid, Crota's End, has its own set of unique upgrade materials. That being said, they are obviously only obtainable by doing that raid. It's not confirmed yet as to what the House of Wolves raid will use for upgrade material, but radiant material seems likely. So the only way to upgrade the raid gear for two of the three raids is to have done the newest raids. While the Vault of Glass Raid gear will set in a terminal 30 light per piece and 300 attack cap. Using only ascendant materials that we, at least most of us, have plenty of just stockpiled for nothing really...

Here's my plan:
● While equipped, any raid weapon or armor piece may be rerolled through the speaker/gunsmith respectively using 10 motes of light per piece, upgrading it to the new highest level possible, i.e. 36 light or 331 attack as of now.
• This will reset all nodes in the gear. Similar to how Xur upgrades Exotics.
• Upon completion of this upgrade the final nodes for damage and defense, that used to require ascendant material, will now require radiant material instead.
• This method forces players to use the current standard materials earned through the DLC, hence requiring players to own the DLC in order to do so.
This will effectively allow, not only, a unique environment where players can have a boost to their level with gear that has become somewhat obsolete, but effectively solve the "everyone looks the same" problem. Additionally, when the light level is increased, to say 34, during the House of Wolves DLC, players will have three different sets of Raid gear to hit max level with and be able to use the perks they provide in harder versions of the raids.
Please let me know what you think and if you would be interested in this process.

I like your idea but i dont agree with it being 36 light, perhaps scale it up to scratch with the rep vendor gear 33

Only the weapons and it should be offered through Xûr upgrades like how old versions are upgrade now.
-
In order for this to happen, they would need to up the level of VoG. Which would defeat the purpose.
-
I want this to happen as well. I mean, what about all those people that beat the hard raid for their helmets and other stuff? Nobody wants it to be weak, they want it be strong. Also, Bungie wants variety, and this would be perfect for that.
-
They should be upgradeable like exotics.
-
Have you ever played any other MMO? People need to understand and deal with the fact that old raids are going to be rendered irrelevant. There isn't a point to releasing new content if you can just keep running the old content for the same level of gear.

I kind of hope not cause I just got the warlock chest and gauntlets, after vaulting them briefly sharded em cause well they lacked the light.

I think everyone should be able to upgrade previous raid gear with the new materials. New upgrade nodes could be added next to the original ones taking the armor to 36 light. This could also be done with every raid/raid armor to come. At least then we could all maybe become a little more unique instead of all wearing the same raid armor.

Bump awsome solution
