The Vault of Glass is absolutely one of my favorite things to do, both raids are immensely fun with the right group, but it's painful when you don't get that one weapon/gear drop that you need.
Personally, I've only gotten a single chest armor drop from either raid, the VoG Chest piece on my hunter. I understand that the point in having the new raid gear boosting your light level is designed to make you "buy" more content from Bungie and is all about the bottom line, to be honest, I don't mind it. My concern is that there will be a new raid, with new gear and new weapons that make all of the old ones less useful.
The newest raid, Crota's End, has its own set of unique upgrade materials. That being said, they are obviously only obtainable by doing that raid. It's not confirmed yet as to what the House of Wolves raid will use for upgrade material, but radiant material seems likely. So the only way to upgrade the raid gear for two of the three raids is to have done the newest raids. While the Vault of Glass Raid gear will set in a terminal 30 light per piece and 300 attack cap. Using only ascendant materials that we, at least most of us, have plenty of just stockpiled for nothing really...

Here's my plan:
● While equipped, any raid weapon or armor piece may be rerolled through the speaker/gunsmith respectively using 10 motes of light per piece, upgrading it to the new highest level possible, i.e. 36 light or 331 attack as of now.
• This will reset all nodes in the gear. Similar to how Xur upgrades Exotics.
• Upon completion of this upgrade the final nodes for damage and defense, that used to require ascendant material, will now require radiant material instead.
• This method forces players to use the current standard materials earned through the DLC, hence requiring players to own the DLC in order to do so.
This will effectively allow, not only, a unique environment where players can have a boost to their level with gear that has become somewhat obsolete, but effectively solve the "everyone looks the same" problem. Additionally, when the light level is increased, to say 34, during the House of Wolves DLC, players will have three different sets of Raid gear to hit max level with and be able to use the perks they provide in harder versions of the raids.
Please let me know what you think and if you would be interested in this process.

The gunsmith should be able to take a maxed 300 purple and 20,000 glimmer and bump it to 331. Make people think carefully about which to max.
-
I agree that they should do this, but they should increase the lvl of difficulty as well. Make it 33 like CE HM (which can be done at 31) and add more stuff to make it more challenging. That would be fair so that we don't have people just playing VoG and not playing CE. We shouldn't just be given enpveryrhing.

People keep saying it won't happen but I think it will once all the faction specific dlc is dropped Each has gear that has advantages against a specific faction. After all the dlc is dropped, I think they'll give us the ability to gear up for a specific faction
-
Here's the thing, if they bump any raid weapons or armor from VOG to match CE. Then people would just be able to do VOG and get the same gear level. VOG is easier so everyone would stop doing CE and it would negate the purpose of the DLC entirely.
-
Not gonna happen. There will be plenty of other raids. VOG is just the first and they will forever stay.......300 weapons. Get over it.
-
The best you could expect is that there will be a harder version of VoG where new versions of the old raidgear and weapons will drop. ;)
-
I think weapons should go to 323 (be a bit behind the new ones but not obsolete) vendor gear should be 30 light, and VoG should be 33. But that's just my opinion.
-
If it was, it should need radiant materials to hit 36
-
The vault hear should be 33 light and vendor hear should be 30
-
I would love this. I don't wanna say goodbye to fatebringer :(
-
Yep the need to do something about that for sure, because as of right now the armour is 100% useless and I'm tired of looking like every other 32 Hunter
-
I think vault gear should be 33 with the vendor gear

PLEASE! This would be amazing!

There are so many of these forum posts out there, and I agree. There should be a very hard mode for all raids going forward that are at the current lvl cap and drop gear/weapons at the cap. Simple format which would make all raids current and boost replay-ability.

Didn't read plan, but I say no! Is the cycle of life with a game like this. Evey raid the new raid the old raid armor suffer. I would like to make my new armor look like my old stuff though....

Bump :)

If you could upgrade all your armor, what's the point in doing Crota or buying any dlc? If I can just run vault and keep hitting max level there would be 0 point whatsoever.

This game has 3 modes: 1. casual - farming, missions 2. challenging - story, strikes, PvP 3. hard - raids. The point of doing raids is not so anyone can 'play' them, it's meant to be a different gaming dimension that literally and specifically requires team work, learning, trial and error, and is at a level beyond your armor initially. To get free armor upgrades removes this section of the game. Some people like a challenge and a risk/reward system. Furthermore, 1/3 of the raid armor perks are geared towards their respective raids and are very useful for that raid.
