Associate Raid Designer

Hello! I was looking into the various jobs offered at Bungie, and the position Associate Raid Designer really stood out as something that would be incredible to work with. The Required Skills mention experience using scripted language and mod tools to help create the intuitive design of Destiny's endgame raids. I was wondering if I could get professional advice from someone working at Bungie about what classes I should take, and how to best work towards eventually applying for this position. I only have experience playing these raids, so I'd be starting fresh when it comes to learning how to script and design gaming experiences. Any feedback on training to fit the bill for this job would be greatly appreciated! I've always found myself marveling at the clever designs of Destiny's raids- I'd imagine it would be all the more incredible to actually be part of that design! Thank you!

  • My biggest advice is simply make things. A Computer Science background is always nice but the best designers are ones who have always made things. Mods for other games, table top games, just whatever. Make things that show how you understand encounter design and player engagement. It will be rough at first but there are tons of resources online, take advantage of them and start making stuff. As far as starting goes, pick a game you already enjoy and see if they provide modding tools and just start fiddling around with it. Figure out something you want to make and then try to make it. Start small and get bigger from there.
