Ok I have to say this
I'm one of first people to jump on the ak love train and I completely agree it's better than anything armalight could put out
But that wiki might have given me cancer.
Under no circumstance can an assault rifle ever also be a shotgun. They work totally differently and the ak-12 is a confirmed assault rifle.
Kalashnikov weapons will never fire 5.56 ammunition. If you wanted to fire 5.56 you'd have swap the firing mechanism and barrel for products Kalashnikov never had and never will produce.
Take this from someone who's actually fired and taken apart an ak-47. That wiki is insane

FNH and HK make better mass produced weapon systems

Agreed

they planned variants of it. and the design originally called for a steel-reinforced polymer receiver with swapable/modular parts. the idea for poly was later transferred to the new AEK-971 variants. there are russian(izhmash/molot), polish(radom), and bulgarian 5.56x45mm AKs made for export purposes to western countries. they're basically 5.45 models that feed less reliably and have rarer special snowflake mags. and technically, it's be possible but it'd an absolute pita.

Edited by Nihlus: 1/16/2015 5:57:24 PMDid you checked out it's links? Kalashnikov Concern was planing a 5.56 model for the US market, that was before the ban. Though you do have a point that it isn't simple as just switching the barrel.

What about an under barrel?
-
That's an attachment, something that's available to any gun with a rail underneath
-
Technically it can "be" a shotgun with one.
-
No it can't "be" a shotgun. Just because you and your girlfriend are holding hands doesn't mean you can "be" a girl.
