Why do people that "have a life" suck so bad at video games?

"I have a life" is not an excuse. Just be honest with yourself and admit that. Stop blaming the wife, kids and job for your poor hand to eye coordination or problem solving skills. I absolutely suck at Madden. Have no patience with Dark Souls and I suck at Fifa. Its cool though, you wont find me actively playing those types of games let alone post on their forums about how my "life" is the reason I throw 30 interceptions in a game. Almost every great person in history had a wife, kids and a job. They accomplished great things under even greater stress. Why cant you stay positive in a crucible match? Because you suck at video games and dont want to admit it. Would you try out for your favorite Soccer team? Would you attempt to outdrive a formula 1 racer? Would you enter the olympics with the hopes of winning a medal? Not if you knew you sucked at it. Im not saying you cant play the game......just that you suck horribly at it. Stop using life as an excuse and just admit to yourself that you suck at video games. Its cool, its only a game designed for children over the age of 13. How much should that matter to someonenwith a life?

Generally, the amount of time you spend at doing something will contribute to becoming more skilled at it. If you have less time to do something, then you are less likely to be as good at it. If you have extra responsibilities that take you away from your hobbies, that is taking that time away. Some people can spend all the time in the world at something and still be terrible at it, others can pick certain things up quickly, but in the end, those with more time are going to be more skilled, and those with less are not. So responsibilities like families and jobs can detract from improving ones skills at a video game. I don't think one could directly blame their spouses, children, or jobs directly for this. It is time and how much of it they have. And like someone else said, people like to play games for entertainment and may have no concern for their skill level.

  • This may surprise you, but some people play video games just to play video games. They don't play to win or lose, they play to play. I'd like to know why some people can go 20-2 in the crucible but suck at life.

    • I've had a life for 54 years. A GREAT life. Beautiful wife for over 30 years now. Both daughters Suma Cum Laude graduates of major private universities. (one is a damn fine destiny player). At one time I was king nerd at the arcades, but now I accept the limitations of my gaming skills due to my age. Even though the reflexes have slowed a bit and the competitiveness has lost it's edge, I'd be hard pressed to find another Guardian that's having more fun.

      • You compared great people in history, Olympic athletes, professional footballers to people that play video games. No additional comment needed.

I'm sorry, but in between exams, work, and -blam!-ing my girlfriend I don't have the time to explain why I'm so "bad." But I do have time to say I'm jk... I have no life. :( Lol.

          • HAHAHA, great one. I play games for fun, I do not play to be the greastest there ever was. If I "suck" at a game and still enjoy playing it i will continue to play. If you find the game fun to play it does not matter how good you are, of course you always get the people who only have fun playing a game if they are really good at it. I am not one of those.
