Did you notice this? It took me until now to actually realize it.

I've seen many, and read less, articles and threads similarly titled "Top 10 things wrong/holding back Destiny." Here I want to just mention 1 fact that is linked to many of the repeated things mentioned in these lists. There is not one single NPC you encounter, EVER, outside the tower while you have control of your character. NOT A SINGLE ONE. Not in a mission, patrol, strike, or raid. Just you, your fireteam, your ghosts, and enemies. Never the 'badass lost guardian in need of assistance' interrupting us as we're in the middle of doing our own mission. The old female warlock in the cave who needs 10 thrall skulls and the cape of a wizard delivered to her located somewhere back in the first 1/3 of the mission (standard optional mid-mission objective). There is no chance for escort or rescue missions. No delivery quests of supplies to the guardian encampment/outpost located just outside of the tower. Outpost gives you message of incoming Fallen attack to deliver to the tower. Prepare for battle, defensive/horde style. (Que up world event: 6-16 man horde battle. The longer your squad survives the better your rewards, or it's beatable.) I could go on for an hour on specifics, but anyway the point being: I think a major issue that is a big cause of many of Destiny's issues of overly repetitive environments, lack of mission variety, and that huge component of most RPGs... STORY can all be heavily attributed to the complete nonexistence of NPCs outside the tower. Was their a voice actor's strike? Did Bungie think the illusion of being 1 of only 6 active guardians in the whole game's universe was really going to paint that grand scale picture? Your thoughts? Edit: One place you could add these NPCs where it would do a lot (imo) is in the dailies. Secondary objectives added to the hardest version of the story missions, unknown what it will be until you enter. Reward: rep + another engram or whatever. Killing Grayliks on level 14 is not old, it's dead and rotting. Something else that hasn't been explored yet add legendary bounties that go in the missions' slot of your inventory, (Example: Complete 7 daily/weekly activites, Reward: Legendary engram) or weekly/legendary crucible bounties (Example: Highest score in lobby 5 times or 10 kills in a Crucible match 5 consecutive times). OFF TOPIC: Also wtf is the crucible in the game's universe? We're on the same side versus aliens but kill each other in sport? Training program Matrix style? Most pvp games give you a reason to fight eachother, (Terrorist vs. Counter-Tertorist, Alliance vs. Horde) this game we just fight eachother because "reasons". Also, I finally got a "Mark of the Unbroken" (Perfect game in the crucible) by going 16 kills and 0 deaths in skirmish and I feel I shoulda got an emblem or something for that.

  • Side missions/bounties from npc's wondering around the planets would be a nice addition. Maybe destiny 6 will include that lol.

  • Dude it's because this game was cut way short of its target content! They could have used 2 more years with this game but activision wanted the profits now so made Bungie tack together what they have! Cosmodrome was just confirmed by a bungie dev that it was suppose to be 10 times the size! They even had to change the story! The original story has the traveler as being bad!

  • The crucible all pertains to the faction lore. Each game mode is represented by a different faction. Those guardians representing that faction is what you are fighting over Lots more information about the birth of the crucible in the grimoire. Even that voice that talks to you during your game is an actual character of great importance to the crucible (shaxx I think?) All in all, bungie fails to deliver the proper message of this games lore. Theirs a reason why we do everything in this game, but no body knows why except for some script writter at bungie.

  • A post that DeeJ needs to see... Hell...a post that the f'ing manager needs to see (including some well thought out comment add ons) and deal with. This would make your game so much better... For the love of Christ at least acknowledge this post exists.... #DeeJ

  • Destiny is a weird shell of a game. I find myself wanting to give feedback on things to add but, where to start? This game is missing everything. I think that's why Randal the Vandal was so popular. Everyone is desperately trying to fill the many voids Bungie left in this game. Of course, Bungie took that away...

  • The Crucible is basically training, guadians can die an infinite amount of times as long as their ghosts are with them. So, Bloodsport. Lol

There is a place in the Comosdrome called, "The Breach". In the far back of it there the place where we start the game as a level 1 Guardian. I think this would the perfect place to have a group of NPCs called, "The Forgotten" a group of humans, awoken, and exos that live the harsh environments outside the city. Going here will start a small sequence of side missions or quests. 1.) You find a camp site of humans, awoken and exos both young and old. They seem afraid of you; their leader confronts you wielding the Exotic weapon, No Land Beyond. He asks why you came, and you reply that you're simply on patrol, scouting for any Fallen taking shelter here. Realizing you're a Guardian of the Traveler the Forgotten Leader asks you a favor. His people are dying of starvation, they need food. They had a cultivation farm to grow food, but the House of Kings raided it and killed the farmers he needs you to take it back. 2.) The Forgotten Leader thanks you for aiding him and his people, but the Fallen continue to torment his people. A week before you arrived a group of children were playing soccer, when they were attacked by Fallen. The Forgotten Leader used his rifle to save them, but he was too late to save one of them. The parents want revenge. Slay the House of King's Ultra Captain in the (TBA) mission, and bring them his head! 3.) A grieving family is given Retribution, much thanks is appreciated Guardian! But there is still problems that need your attention. The House of Kings isn't the only problem The Forgotten has, the Hive's Hidden Swarm on Earth have been making life hard for The Forgotten, even as the children sleep the Hive continue to plague them. Venture into the Grottos and take down the wretched demons! 4.) You're aid is much appreciated. The Forgotten honor you as a watchful protector, a hero. They offer you a Legendary weapon that they've lovingly crafted with what little they have. It's all they can offer in return, they thank you.

        • I like many of your points. Of things destiny did tight the story is not among them. I see your crucible point. I also understand why they didn't want to do a total faction divide horde/alliance style. Lots of things you don't think about come with that setup... Example longer queues since you can't just throw first 12 ppl into a game you need them to be of opposing factions. Same reason they didn't do class roles.

        • Yes, I noticed this a while back. The explanation----in terms of the Destiny Universe----is that the Forces of the Darkness have been waging a war of annihilation against humanity. So any humans who are outside the confines of The City are either Guardians; dead; or in hiding. Like real civillians, they aren't going to just wander into remote areas where there are pitched battles taking place. Non-combatants always FLEE to safety if they are able to move. The explanation----in terms of game design, IMO----is that Destiny was trying to target a SHOOTER audience with this game, and were caught by suprise by the number of MMO and RPG fans who were drawn to the game. So many of the MMO and RPG aspects of the game were watered down in an effort to make them more palatable to shooter fans. Fans who are used to having little environmental interaction beyond shooting at things. MMO and RPG fans, OTOH, are NOT used to that....and find the lack of interaction beyond blowing things up and shooting their heads off to be off-putting. But I think in subsequent versions of the game....probably not until Destiny 2 in 2016----I think Bungie is going to have to address this, and expand upon the RPG elements and create a more interactive world for the game to take place in. The role of The Crucible? Preventing CIVIL WAR. Human beings who are living in constant fear and stress (as you are in the sort of seige that the City has been facing) have the nasty habit of turning on one another. Or having power-hungry people EXPLOIT that fear and try to turn people against one another in order to increase their own power. This is why you have the 3 factions....and The Crucible exists as a way of allowing them to settle their differences and jockey for power and influence without the streets of The City running red with human blood.

          • Actually In WoW you can duel with another player in the same faction. It ends when one has one hit point left. But i can see what you're getting at.

Agreed. On all points. There's also no dialogue with the few npcs we have. At all. It's crazy. I particularly like the idea of secondary objectives and difficulty levels, and the extra variety that would come hand in hand. You might not be old enough to remember Golden Eye and Perfect Dark - they did just that and it was great. Steal the data, take out the target, transport the explosives, escort the npc etc. Re. the Crucible - I believe initially it was called Faction Wars, which makes a whole lot more sense and, in my mind's eye at least, would have been awesome. Add a whole bunch of npcs, Bungie, both in the tower and outside, more dialogue, more cut scenes, and maybe - call me crazy - some exposition so everything doesn't feel so threadbare and stapled together! Oh, while you're at it, HORDE MODE! Here's a telling fact - of my friends on the PS4 all bought Destiny. Half of them still play it - they, like me, are loot slaves - and the other half thought it was complete junk - largely due to the lacking story and almost complete lack of narrative exposition. Those that didn't like it all loved Borderlands.

          • I thought BEACONS were the NPCs in the vast open world... Seriously I thought Destiny was going to be more like DC Universe Online + Borderlands + Diablo 3 + Skyrim. Sadly most of the $9.99+ iPad games have more content than Destiny.
