I get it though, a bunch of guardians don't have icebreaker and want some sort of comfort when they loot black hammer so they start topics about it on the forums.

I picked hammer. Yet it is a coin flip for me depending what other set I am rocking with. Ice is mint for never running out of ammo. However, hammer can be unlimited as long as you constant critical shot on bosses. Damage: full IB on atheon 14980 crit Hammer (80%) atheon 19980 crit Now those are rough guess off of the last run. Ib full upgrade 14k hammer not full 19k non stop shoots. I got 9 in before reload and run. Hope it helps.

1 ReplyCompletely different situational weapons, can't really compare them. Black hammer is good for bosses that have easy to hit crit spots, but if the boss moves often or the crit is small, is worse then other snipers because of the low mag size, while icebreaker is good in most situations, if you are fighting a boss with easy crit spots, it's better to use the black hammer. So pretty much, crit shots go with black hammer, no crit shots, go icebreaker.

The black hammer is great on bosses and anything easy to land crits on I usually use it on bosses and ice breaker on other enemies the headshot crit is the shit it takes down bosses in seconds

They're both great! They both have situations where they are best. I like my Efrideet's Spear better than both of them.

4 RepliesHammer is really only good on bosses. I will use icebreaker during an entire night fall and only pull out hammer when its boss time. Hammer cant refill a clip on shielded enemies....

Don't have an IB so my hammer rarely leaves my side. It's been said many times but it boils down to this. IB is better as a general sniper rifle. BH is only better in situations where you can chain together more than 6 critical hits and continue chaining them (large slow bosses). A skilled BH user can make the gun perform better than the IB, but it requires perfection and most people would be better served with an IB.

Black Hammer is a tactical weapon that can be employed in certain situations to great affect and advantage. It is very good at what it does. It is better than Icebreaker against certain bosses. Icebreaker just wrecks shit 24/7. Have both, use both, switch between them. Especially when 3 rounds in an Icebreaker becomes 3 with 2 spare in a Black Hammer... Enough to get the bonus filled mag a few times with a reload if you screw up. End of the day the black hammer is a true marksman weapon, miss a perfect shot and it penalises you. Icebreaker is good for clearing areas where sometimes a body shot is enough before you move onto the next target. Edit Hence the term "Hammer Time" Black Hammer has a time and a place. Icebreaker just crashes the party.

Ice breaker is more reliable, black hammer does more damage, but it sucks when a boss turns around and you can't get the crit lol, also some enemies don't have crit spots

I have both, Black hammer more damage less recoil and if you land precision shots you basicly have unlimited bullets. On certain boss you just have to spam shoot for 30 seconds and the boss is dead. Also it doesn't it gives you a free exotic slot (good combination with Gjallarhorn). Now Icebreaker is very good if you want to play safe.
