The Compendium: The Fallen

The first race of aliens we see, and probably what we think is the "Army of Darkness" for the first couple missions. The fallen were once royalty, that much I can say with absolute honesty is a fact. The higher ups grope for their once royal rank and send the lower ranked out to fight their battles. In turn the lower ranking soldiers are trying to impress their leaders, this is a quote from the prima destiny game guide. The fallen have, well fallen, from the power they once hold. I assume this to be caused from the influence of the darkness as i have stated in other comments and posts, but I'm not completely sure. They do not seem like they are actually oriented to fight though. Their weapons include the various "shock" weapons: pistol, grenade, dagger, rifle as well as the line rifle and the shrapnel launcher. The most effective of these is the shock pistol which is used only by the dregs and shanks. As we all know dregs are easy to kill, simple headshot and they're dead, but the bane of many guardians existence is the team of shanks. Shooting straight with the shock pistol equiped and no weak point to destroy them a team can tear you to shreds if you aren't quick enough, especially so if they have a shield. This leads me to believe that the vandals aren't actually a higher ranking soldier in a sense, but actually are the carry over of the superficial guards of the higher powers. This is sort of like the "armed" guards who cant move outside of the british queens castle. Their choice of weapons include the shock rifle, the one that follows you slightly but is easy to evade, or the devastating line rifle, which is really just a powerful shock pistol. With my interpretations being correct the line of ranking would actually go more like this shank / servitor . dreg vandal . captain baron . kell / archon priest . higher form of royalty we haven't seen yet i would actually love some feedback on this, I'm not sure if the kell is supposed to be the highest fallen rank or not. we've killed two and the queen has killed one, i understand without the kell or high servitor its common for a house to fall apart but i can't imagine taking out four of the most important could be THE most important. however the fallen lost their standing on their own planet is pretty irrelevant to our own situation though. They fell and clinging to their once greatness they follow the darkness, and maybe more importantly the vex. I understand they fight them on venus but that is beside the point that the clearly are a scavenging race of aliens. I do not think that they actually support the darkness, only an enemy of my enemy.... so to get back on topic, they follow the destruction that is caused by the darkness and take what they want from the destroyed civilization to rebuild their own. i think in the future, probably the very near future, we will see higher ranking fallen. i hope that they offer a more "I'm the king i set the time and place of our fight" and that they might not be physically imposing, but the setting of each fight proves to be difficult to overcome. edit from grimoire

SERVITORS "A floating light, a sleepless eye. Their hope, their faith, their sustenance." Servitors are living relics of the once-mighty Fallen civilization. Packed with ultra-sophisticated machinery, they process matter and energy into the Ether that the Fallen depend on for life. In battle they support the Fallen with defensive systems and their own powerful energy weapons. Outside, they anchor Fallen comms and provide vital technological acumen. Servitors have complex relationships with each other and with their Fallen crews. Servitors are attached to a Prime, a massive Servitor which exists in unclear symbiosis with a Fallen Archon. The Archon conveys the Kell's wishes to the Prime Servitor, and exerts some measure of control. Recent developments suggest that Prime Servitors are more than a focus of worship and logistical activity. They may play a key role in Fallen star flight. SHANKS "Death flies on tarnished wings." Shanks are the bulldogs of the Fallen. Small and tough enough to go where Dregs won't fit, they scout, keep watch, and patrol. Fallen Walkers deploy Shanks from internal bays for tactical support and field repairs. DREGS "Don't underestimate a cutthroat, or you'll get your throat cut." Dregs cling to the lowest rung of Fallen society. Docked of their lower arms in a ritual of humiliation and obedience, Dregs seek to prove their worth. Only a few will survive to gain promotion and regrow their limbs. Their suicidal bravery is fueled by ambition and shame. VANDALS "You could drown the City in the blood they've spilt." Soldiers, brawlers, assassins, and scouts, Vandals are the seasoned regulars who fill out the skilled roles within a Fallen crew. Whether from distance or up close and personal, they are seasoned, efficient killers, with an arsenal of weaponry and tech to match their bloodlust. CAPTAINS "Waves of them smashed against our walls, hissing and wailing. But it was the one who stood beyond them, silent and scenting the air, that froze the blood in our veins." Having clawed and knifed his way to the top, scattering bodies and limbs in his wake, the Captain is the strongest and most ferocious member of the crew he musters around himself. His ration of Ether is the largest, his blades the sharpest, his guns the finest. Upon his shoulders hangs the flag of his House, if he swears loyalty to any. For his crew, the slightest hesitation to comply earns a slash from his sword.
