Yea. The grimiore is just a halfcocked attempt to replace the original story that got hacked.
I'm sure the reason they made it so vague, cryptic, and mysterious, was just to keep the waters muddied. They knew that without the original story, this game has more plot holes than a tabloid magazine.
So I do believe you are giving bungie far too much credit.

I agree. A lot of people say that they are just really good at hiding secrets and making Easter eggs. I think that they're just really good at hiding stuff in their updates. Half of their Easter Eggs didn't even show up until after an update came out. Rather than fixing a section where they -blam!-ed up in the game, they stick something there just to make it look like it was on purpose and then get praised for their ingenuity.

just research some of bungies past endeavors in terms of secrets and easter eggs in their halo series, even the easter egg for destiny in halo 3 odst. i think you underestimate how much bungie love secrets
