Kill Death Ratio DOES Matter

Now, I have noticed something direly wrong with the mindset people hold towards multiplayer. Too often I hear, "KDR doesn't mean shit!" "I'm not a no-life, I don't care about a high KDR." Blah blah blah.. Now I understand not everyone has put the time in to pull off positive KDRs every game, or consistently put up good numbers on the scoreboard. But it is the pure neglect for the founding principle that Team Deathmatch (encompasses almost all destiny PvP game types) was built on that bothers me. Nobody seems to give two shits about maintaining a positive KDR, but does no one realize that by giving yourself a negative KDR, you have directly fed the other team more points than you contributed to your own team??? KDR is the ONLY thing that matters in a Team Deathmatch gametype. Game types like "control" simply add a side objective, but KDR remains the primary goal. so I ask, why do you not care about KDR? Do you just not care about winning or at least giving your team a chance to win? Did you just simply not realize that KDR actually DOES matter? Again, I'm not trying to correct anyone, I'm just curious as to why it seems that the general Destiny population doesn't understand such a concept. Here's a picture, posted by "CrazyT101" of a game won with ZERO control captures, highlighting the importance of KDR. While not everything, it does hold significant weight in determining a match winner.
How about a picture?
EDIT: It's not about how high the KDR is, but about consistently maintaining a positive KDR for your team, as long as the Kill-Death spread is positive you have HELPED your team, rather than HINDERED. EDIT2: a lot of people have brought to my attention the necessity of team assists and certain tactics that still contribute positively to the "team effort." While important, IMO these additions still do not change the core concept of control (TDM.) LASTEDIT: thank you all for the feedback! Seems there's a variety of viewpoints on this matter from "KDR still don't mean shit" to "I just play the game for fun." I'm a pretty competitive guy and I forgot not everyone shares the same feeling. It may just be a videogame, but a game, nonetheless. And I like to win games! THANKS GUARDIANS! (Additional) FINAL EDIT: I really appreciate all of the thought out replies guys. Opens my eyes to a much wider world of Destiny than before. GOOD LUCK to all guardians in the crucible and hopefully this thread will help some players. Maybe? Either way, cheers! **A Note For Bungie** -I know it's probably been said many times by now, but this thread strongly suggests people desire more of a reward from the crucible. Even something as simple as a more heavily influenced RNG roll for every 1000 points you've nabbed for your team. Just a thought.

  • I don't care about winning. I only care about leveling up. Therefore, I only play crucible for bounties. It's not like you get that much more for winning. An extra mark and a few extra negligible xp.

Well sometimes my family and girlfriend plays. There not to great at it and yes it hurts my k/d but why do I have to be judged based on it. If I'm in a crucible game going 20- 10 then let me be judge then and not defending myself on the forums The crucible Should be fun. It's like driving a car, sometimes I just wanna cruise around town at night and just take the scenic route. Enjoying myself

    • My issue is with people that care about lifetime KDR. That doesn't mean shit. Example is my warlock. His lifetime kd is like a .8 but during IB I was just under a 2. But during IB when it mattered I wasn't experimenting with weapons or intentionally letting my buddy kill me in Rumble so he could finally finish his dam Thorn bounty.

    • I don't mind if people go slightly negative especially if they have a few assists to their name. But you know those games where you play really well, your team loses, and then you check the scoreboards and there's someone on your team with like 3 kills and 12 deaths. It's disgusting. If you are dying repeatedly without getting any kills then STOP what you're doing and try something else. Camp, or back up a good player, or just hide.

    • I'm here for the loot. Better gear, better weapons etc. Crucible is used by me for Exotic Bounties for upgraded weapons/shards. I'm sure many others feel the same. So my upfront apologies if I'm ever on your team because I'm there for ME. Not Us. No meanness intended ;))

    • For bad to mediocre players though, there really is no easy way to bring up the K/D in a meaningful way. You can take the forum approach and scream "Get GUD son!" but that doesn't change anything. You can tell them to play more conservatively, but that probably won't do too much. Even if they go hide in a corner or something, they will probably still die some, and be even less likely to kill their attacker resulting in even worse overall K/D. Also, by effectively pulling one of your team from contention, you increase the chance of other players finding themselves in unfavorable encounters of 2 v 1. And result in everyone else getting lower K/D spreads.

    • K/D definitely matters, but to a certain extent. There are always going to be multiple factors that determine a win. If you check out my last 10 games of salvage, I ran a consistent K/D from 2.0-28.0, but we still lost two or three times. One thing is for sure through, going negative every match definitely isn't helping your team.

    • My 11 year old son play and he runs around with a void shotgun. Trash my KD. I get thorn bounty boom I don't care. I need crucible marks I have him run headless towards ppl. Kills my kd but gets me marks. Honestly I really don't care if the team win or lose. I played on teams where I'm 10-20 kills over my death and still lose by thousands of points. Pvp in this game doesn't mean anything neither do stats.

K/D is important. If a majority on the team has a high k/d, chances are they are dominating the match. Keep in mind I've seen a teams that focus on slaying but not the objective lose. Also, a player with higher points and a 1:1 K/D might be a better player than you. Creating a good situation by baiting can lower your K/D.

    • K/D is like he says the most important part of winning matches. Some people are trying to bring in pointless remarks like If I kill 6 people and hide in the corner the rest of the game that makes me real good... No it doesn't we are not talking about campers. It breaks down like this: Going 30-24 is not the better player than someone who went 24-2, but the end score will say that. What makes you a good player is the number of kills you make against the number of deaths you have. player one had 6 positive kills, player two had 22 positive kills he is clearly the better player and helped the team much more then the guy at the top of the score board. Many games I will be say 20-4 and we lose the match by 500 points and I look at the top of the boards and our leader is something like 36-34. He is most likely the reason we lost if he had stopped being so aggressive and dyeing In another min or two I would have won the game for the team.

      • when does KD matter? I have .75 after 2000 kills. a "noob" can play 2 matches & come out with a 2.0 KD. does that make him better than me? my KD is .75, but that doesn't mean I'll finish every match that way.

        • Kill death ratio matters to an extent, obviously kills matter, but so does helping your team out. Running and gunning it isn't being helpful.

        • Score is really the only thing that matters. KDR is usually indicative of a good individual effort, I agree. KDR is also a fancy way of snipers fluffing themselves up for their contributions to a team effort. I'd prefer they get 10 kills at 2.5 KDR to 5 kills at 5.0 KDR, since the point of the game is to win by score. In certain formats like Skirmish I actually want teammates who are willing to die so I can exploit their misfortune for additional revive points while I finish off their opponent. That yields a kill, an assist and a revive. 310 points, plus kill mods like 1st place, headshot, etc compared to a 100 point kill for the other guy.

        • Score per minute is more of a accurate measurement of skill.. any fag can sit in a corner and kill, ignoring objectives.

        • KD ratio doesnt mean much in control, especially since youcan get an extra 200 points per kill which equals 4 kills. So 1 kill could potentially equal 5. Im clash its pretty much everything. Mine isnt great, but i usually pull a postitive score
