How to use Sniper Rifle in Crucible

I am very new to gaming (modern gaming anyways). In the first 4-6 weeks of playing destiny I couldn't break 500 points in Crucible. I worked at it and eventually could top the charts... since reduced to middle ranking in IB. Recently I thought I would expand my skills by learning to be a Sniper, but I don't get how to do it in Destiny. 1) I find that I settle into a spot and end up getting killed by someone with a euros regime or other high powered non-sniper gun... whats the point of a sniper rifle if the other guns have the same range without losing mobility or sight? Am I doing something wrong here? An example would be sniping by C facing B on Venus map (maat mons I think its called). 2) it seems like there are not many snipe points, so if I try to hunker down, I get maybe two kills until I am hunted down. Tips? Tricks?

Knowing the maps make sniping much easier and where enemies spawn. Positioning yourself in lanes, choke points and regular route entrances. A lot of people don't snipe because it takes experience, well minus the grandpa scopers. One thing I did to get better at sniping is was run strikes only using a sniper rifle. Try it sometime. Also, use the scope with the lowest zoom.

    • After you get a kill MOVE or you will get counter sniped. Also Suros is still damn powerful after its nerfs so dont be suprised when somone outguns you with it just shrug and move on. My best advice is to learn the maps and dont stay scoped facing one way all the time, watch your radar to see if some one is sneaking up on you (helps to have 3rd Eye gun skill). Also, and this is gonna sound dickish no matter what, if you see one lone team mate trying to cap a zone all by himself dont assist him, use him as bait. To put that postively provide "covering fire" for him let him cap the zone and you pick off the enemy team that comes to try and stop him. Bleh now i need to go help a noob to wash off the awful person feeling lol.

      • Point reticule at opponent's head pull trigger. Congratulations you have successfully used a sniper in the crucible.

      • There used to be great sniper maps like bastion and first light :/ they have been taken out for some reason. One more thing snipe, the move spots. Have two or three spots. You can come back to same spot later on but change it up. Know the map layout. It will give you an idea on where to snipe. If you don't have the third eye perk. Always be cautious of lurking enemies. Check your radar frequently. If possible try for headshots, if not two quick shots to the torso is preferable.

        • First I will tell you this: get patience and time. The invisibly is nice but not overly helpful (your red sight doesn't go away). The real reason it's great is it's super stable, has a big 6 round clip and allows you to keep your radar up. These three things give you an edge. Secondly, you must always be mobile. No such thing as a sniper perch as you know it from other games. The best places for a sniper in destiny are ones with the following characteristics: long sightlines in several directions with quick and easy cover available for when you get made. Three areas come to mind: 1, on shores of time map between B and C zones where the heavy ammo spawns there are two platforms. I go back and forth between them and can nearly completely cover both B and C zones on my own. 2, the moon at the highest point of the map in a cave. You can see literally the whole map from here and can cover people getting into vehicles as well as two different spawn points. 3, blind watch, bottom of map inside corridor between C and B zones. This one may only have one really good sightline (up as people enter at the top of the stairs) but you can cover both points and the enemies just keep coming. The big key for all of these is to always be a moving target and to take cover the second you don't have the upper hand.

          • Bump. I would be interested to hear these things as well... Camping doesn't work too well in this game, I'd say take 2 shots and move

I suggest for Destiny, look for snipers with high stability and use a lower zoom scope (personal preference regarding the extra tight map design)
