I am very new to gaming (modern gaming anyways). In the first 4-6 weeks of playing destiny I couldn't break 500 points in Crucible. I worked at it and eventually could top the charts... since reduced to middle ranking in IB.
Recently I thought I would expand my skills by learning to be a Sniper, but I don't get how to do it in Destiny.
1) I find that I settle into a spot and end up getting killed by someone with a euros regime or other high powered non-sniper gun... whats the point of a sniper rifle if the other guns have the same range without losing mobility or sight? Am I doing something wrong here? An example would be sniping by C facing B on Venus map (maat mons I think its called).
2) it seems like there are not many snipe points, so if I try to hunker down, I get maybe two kills until I am hunted down.
Tips? Tricks?

If you're gonna aim for the body, double tap the trigger so you ensure a kill. Do not stay scoped. The scope glare is a dead giveaway to your position and will get you killed. Check your radar. Keep a reliable primary on hand to deal with anyone who gets too close. Position yourself in a frequented area, like a doorway or zone, so that you always have fresh prey waiting for you. Know your sights. Ambush is probably the best all-around scope for crucible in my opinion, but use whichever one you are most comfortable with. Try to use the sweeping technique. Keep your reticle at approximately head height and use your right stick to sweep left and right to acquire targets. Once you master this strategy, I guarantee you will be the most feared sniper in the crucible. Hope this helps!

1. Learn the maps. You can't be a good sniper without knowing the major traffic patterns and the long sight lines on a map. 2. Learn the maps. You can't be a good sniper without knowing the major traffic patterns of the maps well enoug to STAY OUT OF THEM, when you pick a place to snipe from. 3. Scope in and out frequently. You rarely die as a result of getting counter-sniped. You'll usually die as a result of being too focused on what you're scoped in on...and then realizing (too late) that you've been located. If you're TOTALLY new sniping....get a rifle that will help to offset your inexperience and the inherent dnagers of sniping. The exotic sniper rifle "Patience and Time"...is an EXCELLENT choice for PvP play. It has THIRD EYE (which allows you to continue to see your radar even when scoped in) thus making it harder for enemy players to sneak up on you. It also will turn your briefly invisible when your scoped in which makes you a HARDER target to find and fight (remember than anyone who is DIRECTLY in your line of sight when you're scoped in will still be able to see your lens "glare...more like FLARE.) 4. Your instincts about the Shore of Time map (Venus). That sightline from C to B (in both directions) is a popular----and very effective----sniper position on that map. Your problem is that it is SO popular that lots of experienced playes are on the lookout for being sniped from there, and have worked out various countermeasures. 5. If you are a very good shot already.....aim for the head. Almost all the sniper rifles in this game are one-hit kills to the head and two to the body in regular Crucible play. If you are not a confident shot Pick a high stability/high fire-rate sniper rifle (like Praedyth's Revenge)....then spam two quick shots to center-mass to quickly put down your opponent before they know they're under attack. This is my best advice for playing as a conventional, stationary sniper. Your effectiveness and survivability will be a combination of your shooting ability...and your creativity in picking spots that allow you to see and dominate major traffic lanes, but still be far enough off the beaten path that opponents are unlikely to find you unless they are actively looking for you. If you want to play as a free-ranging "quick-scoping/mid-range sniper".....I'm not your guy.

Maat mons? Ok....

Well camp sniping doesn't work in this game unless your locking down a narrow position but even then you have to have good strafing skills and a quick precision shot. I'm not an ordinary sniper though. I literally can you use my praedyths at any range effectively as long as I'm able to line my sight am predict the enemies movement correctly. And before anybody says some dumb shit, I would like to add that I'm top 100 in the world in headshots and think I have around 4500 more kills with my sniper than any other gun.

Euros Regime, awesome! :-)

Tips and tricks: 1. Sliding before shooting makes for epic kills. 2. Always do a jump and a 360 spin before shooting 3. No scope kills are best kills 4. If you do scope, make sure your kill is within 1 second of scoping; no more. 5. Always use the perk that bounces your bullets off walls 6. Never camp, always be moving 7. Close combat is where the sniper shines 8. Rapid fire snipers don't make for good slow-mo's. Don't use em.
Put it all together: run through close quarters corridor; spot target. Slide at them and upon ending the slide immediately jump and do a 360 spin. No scope shoot the wall behind your target and watch the bullet ricochet into his head.
Speed is your friend. Never stay in one spot to long and aim for the head.
-
Headshots and knowing that that person knows where you are now after you kill them.

Final round

When I snipe I'm usually running around quick scoping, If I do sit in hard aiming a hallway or entrance once I see a username I shot. Chances are headshot or body.

Trick:most snipers don't just sit in one spot.... We move.

QQQUQUQUICK SCOPE!
-
Tip. Go to special weapons and switch out sniper for fusion rifle/shotgun.

Step 1. Camp in the back somewhere where you can see a frequently traveled area (such as a doorway) Step 2. Adjust your sights to the height of a guardian's head Step 3. Be that fag that prevents others from moving around the map. Nothing Pisces me off more than people camping with snipers. I can snipe well, but I prefer a mobile gameplay. People who sit in the back (or sit anywhere in general) are what really grind my gears. Snipers just tend to sit there more than anything else. If I'm killed by a sniper that is moving around/capping an objective, hats off to him

Sweep snipe. Learn it. Love it.
-
Look up on YouTube best sniping spots Then get a good sniper rifle with high stability and rate of fire Then your all set
-
Take praydeths revenge and spam body shots = ez kills
-
Sniping in this game is very easy, my feeling is you are trying to set up a camping spot. You gotta have mobility and look for the places with lots of movement.
-
Find the best lines and run with "agile snappy scope". If you have it id recommend Praydenth revenge (VOG sniper). With Praydenth the stability is so good you can just hit 2 body shots really quick if you aren't good at Headshots. Just keep with it and it becomes a lot easier. As you get accustomed to spots you like you know where to anticipate enemy's and where head level will be at.
-
Quick scope with a mid range zoom. Don't always aim down the sights. The glare is a huge kill me sign. Mostly, be mobile. In destiny, you really can't hide and snipe effectively. The maps are far too small and full of cover

Sniping is fun and challenging in this game cuz the maps are pretty small compared to other games where you can be an elite sniper. Best bet is learn the maps and find some spots but more likely than not you can just stay in one spot, hopefully you aren't those players who just camp cuz most of us know the maps already and I personally as soon as I die getting sniped I can find my way to the sniper and take him out real quick. I've sniped though as well and my advice is soon as you get a kill or so in that spot move cuz more likely the person or people you just killed will hunt you down. I've been able to sneak up on snipers everytime cuz they think can just camp at this one spot the whole match but not in destiny.
