I am very new to gaming (modern gaming anyways). In the first 4-6 weeks of playing destiny I couldn't break 500 points in Crucible. I worked at it and eventually could top the charts... since reduced to middle ranking in IB.
Recently I thought I would expand my skills by learning to be a Sniper, but I don't get how to do it in Destiny.
1) I find that I settle into a spot and end up getting killed by someone with a euros regime or other high powered non-sniper gun... whats the point of a sniper rifle if the other guns have the same range without losing mobility or sight? Am I doing something wrong here? An example would be sniping by C facing B on Venus map (maat mons I think its called).
2) it seems like there are not many snipe points, so if I try to hunker down, I get maybe two kills until I am hunted down.
Tips? Tricks?

Two kills from one spot is great. You don't want to linger too long in a spot. Get your kill or 2 then move and fight conventional with your primary. A lot of scrubs will get killed by a sniper then think they're going to come back for revenge. Some will try the remainder of the match even. Stick and move basically..

Edited by ReactedTugBoat: 5/31/2015 8:33:10 PMOne trick is to use the aim assist to your advantage. You can drag the scope across your target and let go, and with lots of practice, be able to let go with the shot perfectly on your target's head. It takes some trial and error, but you can practice this in patrol with simple enemies.

Go in there quickscope everyone and 360 noscope them

when talking about snipers i prefer the lower aim assist snipers because if eel it is easier for em to land head shots, however lately i am using the her benevolence that has an 80 aim asset and i have it with hidden hand which almost tops up the aim assist and people say that the critical point is increased. My preferred snipers are: Efrideets spear (not with final round), her benevolence and ldr (from most favoured to least)

So while that's a good sniper point, you are vulnerable from your side. I like going onto the stone structure near the heavy ammo on the b side of the map. From there you can snipe B while people are obliviously capturing it, you can shoot the tunnel they come out of, you can shoot through the 3 entrance room as well.

I stopped when you called an auto rifle high powered

Shoot them in the head on the first shot. That's pretty much it man. Sorry to tell you, there's not some secret strategy to being good with a sniper. You have to land the shot every single time. Moving locations after a kill isn't bad though, that way they don't know exactly where you are.

only use snipers on rusted lands and shores of time.

M1 to shoot, m2 to aim

Hold l2 for zoom and r2 shoot

You can't set up a perch and expect to just sit around zoomed in looking for enemies. You have to be prepared to move. Typical scenario of successful sniper kill. Step one, pick an offensive direction. You will want to have cover from the area you plan to lay down fire towards. Selecting a spot that gives you cover from flanking positions helps. But you also need exits in case of overwhelming opposition. Looking where other people snipe from is a great starting point. Step two: watch your radar... Most of the time the map size is going to bring potential targets into the furthest reaches of your radar. Step three, pace yourself and don't forget to watch your own back. The best positions are going to give you the ability to duck in and out if cover. Cover can be something as simple as. A tree between you a d a target. If you take damage that puts you in the red, back off. Step four: don't get discouraged. Its going to take time to develop the ability to scope, acquire, fire and take cover in the time frames that are required. At first you shouldn't even worry about headshots or even hitting the enemy. You need to develop the ability to keep yourself alive while shooting down the scope... Baby steps... A final bit of critical advice... Different scopes play radically different... A scope that let's you adjust your aim quickly is going to be much better on most encounters... A big heavy glass will make you think you suck. Test your options.

Be mobile, always keep your scope at headshot level either by switching to primary and using hip fire reticle or zooming in then out again. Over time you'll naturally always be near the head. Don't move the gun as much as moving your body when aiming down the sights. Keep your cross hairs lined up on head shot level while you strafe left and right.

I have broken it down into 4 simple steps: 1. Point sniper at enemy 2. Aim for the head/body of enemy 3. Shoot bullet 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until enemy is dead There you go! P.S. Don't die

Hidden hand on HOW snipars and final round on all other snipars

Last round spam

I'm not sure which is more over powered, suros regime or euros regime.

Subtle Nudge DN7 is 1 of 2 of the highest rof snipers & can have 100% stability with the right roll. Shadow of veils is in the top 2 snipers with the strongest aim assist. Don't ads long, move after you get a kill & noone else is around, keep your thumb steady, & try out different spots

That moment when this form is 5 months old

Don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes

Aim for there heads. Honestly most maps are small maps Aka shotty maps. Not so forgiving for novice snipers.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Point at bad guy Put dot on bad guy Pull trigger Pull again if you didn't figure out to aim for head Rinse and repeat

Have a good close range primary like The Last Word or vex mythoclast, it will always save your ass. As for tips on the rifle itself, use the Praedyths revenge, if not, try to find one with unflinching and high stability with a high rate of fire. Maps like shores of time are your best friend, but any maps that are mainly cqc, always go for a shotgun, you will only hurt your team by sniping. Never lockdown in one point, always be ready to move. CONSTANTLY check your radar, never stay aimed down sights for more than 5 seconds unless you are trying to get a kill. Good luck OP!!!
