How to use Sniper Rifle in Crucible

I am very new to gaming (modern gaming anyways). In the first 4-6 weeks of playing destiny I couldn't break 500 points in Crucible. I worked at it and eventually could top the charts... since reduced to middle ranking in IB. Recently I thought I would expand my skills by learning to be a Sniper, but I don't get how to do it in Destiny. 1) I find that I settle into a spot and end up getting killed by someone with a euros regime or other high powered non-sniper gun... whats the point of a sniper rifle if the other guns have the same range without losing mobility or sight? Am I doing something wrong here? An example would be sniping by C facing B on Venus map (maat mons I think its called). 2) it seems like there are not many snipe points, so if I try to hunker down, I get maybe two kills until I am hunted down. Tips? Tricks?

      • Best way to snipe that got me flawless is by taking your time with your shots finding long range spots were the enemy appears and always have the upper hand on the opposite enemy tactics (we're they strike first) :)

      • Know the sniping points and keep checking your radar to switch to primary if needed

      • I feel like lower sensitivity is must. I have it on 10 and find it difficult to snipe on destiny despite being good at sniping in cod etc..

          • Use sniping as an opportunity. I always use a sniper and check certain points on the map. If I get a chance I go for the kill. If not I move on and switch to my primary again.

          • make sure your sensitivity is in a good place for you.(i would say around 4-5). reposition after you get a kill. keep an eye on that mini map to look for flankers. if you like to keep your sesitivity high for normal play go get a set of FPS freaks they make a huge diffrence or a scuf controller but thats the extreme side of things. i have both the FPS freaks and the scuf. if you play alot of shooters the scuf couldn't hurt.

          • The key to being a good sniper is to have a good awareness of where your opponents are coming from. You want to be the first one to shoot. Snapshot is really helpfull as a perk for this. After a kill try to reposition and be aware of where your team is. High rof snipers are preferable for normal crucible but a high enough impact snipe to snipe people who get revived is more of use in skirmish, salvage and trials.

          • Don't always stay ADS'ed (excluding Patience and Time) to avoid being flanked Make sure your look sensitivity is just right for you to provide optimal aim Pick the proper sight for the range you want to engage at (I.e. Ambush for close range, eagle eye for long range) Aim assist is higher on some sniper rifles compared to others. Choose a sniper that fits your play style Good luck!

            • Look for a good sniper point, use a landmark (there is a reference point on every good snipe location on every map) to get where the head height is move left and right wait for someone to appear and shoot keep checking the radar also unless you have patience and time

              • Not to sound like a 12 year old Tryhard but.... Go on patrol and find something around head level, then jump around and practice quickly aiming at it (and hitting it). This will help you get used to the critical hit spot :-)

Well, I only run snipers in the crucible. What you need to know first is that, in normal crucible, it is always better to use a low impact sniper instead of a slow firing high impact sniper rifle. So you can counter auto rifles or cannons in tight situations. Headshots are instant kills, no matter which sniper you use (exception: overshielded players). Also, while there are few big maps in PvP, most maps are designed for fast CQC encounters. That's why a short-range scope on a sniper is almost a must. It really helps. Some sniper riflles only offer mid and long range scopes (they are randomly selected on non-exotic guns and, if it's a HoW legendary, can change when you reforge the gun). And most low impact snipes have high RoF and at least 4 shots per mag, high stability. The Patience and Time exotic sniper is a prime example of a sniper designed for PvP. Aside from that, you need to stay mobile. This is important. Sure, you can camp on one spot. But as soon as you score a kill, enemy players will see you during the death-cam. On the map you mentioned, Maat Moons, you should always rush to B and snipe people coming from the small tunnel. If you start on the other side, rush the tunnel and snipe the ramp. Also another good sniping spot is C to B and vice versa.

              • Universal Remote (the primary shotgun) is fun and pretty effective to run with a sniper. Snipers can work at mis and long range so the shotgun can be a great surprise for those who get to close aswell as a defence against shotguners. Generally u should use a sniper in allot of situations but if u really want to you should run a primary that is strong at close range.

              • the easier to use snipers are those that shoot quicker: Prudence II, Prydeths Revenge, The Chosen, etc.(try to find one with high stability). These snipers can be used at the mid and long range killing quickly with 2 shots or 1 to the head, the only thing that can beat there TTK is Hawk moon (2 lucky shots). Of course u have to be accurate and lse most peripheral vision, best used on maps with long or plentiful corridors, ex. anomaly, etc.

First of all never get settled in. Sniper should be used just like shotgun, situationally. When I run sniper I never just sit down and wait. In battlefield you can do that. You have literally in game miles of map but in destiny you dont. The way I play with sniper is you see a shot you switch you take it and then move on. I never use sniper exclusively. For aiming and such, you never want to move your gun barrel much. Move your character more then your gun when aiming. Moving side to side allows you to aim but also keep the other person from hitting you easily. And most of all it's just practice. Find a good sniper and just practice. Edit: just realized how much of a necro bump this is

              • Two kills from one spot is great. You don't want to linger too long in a spot. Get your kill or 2 then move and fight conventional with your primary. A lot of scrubs will get killed by a sniper then think they're going to come back for revenge. Some will try the remainder of the match even. Stick and move basically..
