THORN BOUNTY a punishment to NON HALO players..
After logging more than 2000 hours I have finally realized I will NEVER get to play with the only weapon I have ever wanted....The THORN Hand Cannon.
Since I have NO experience in PVP I am punished by having absolutely NO WAY to get this item other than an event that has NOTHING to do with this game. I've held this bounty in my inventory, along with the INVECTIVE bounty, for 3 months.. (got both bounties early) but I could never get them to save my life.
So after one last failed attempt in the IRON BANNER to even log ANY POINTS on the bounty I'm still sitting at ZERO.
Never in my entire gaming experience have I been restricted from an Item based on my ability to know glitches and exploits in a Multiplayer setting.
What pisses me off is I actually liked this game with all its failures and short comings but now I have to let Principles take over.
I have been punished by Bunghole for being a Hard Core gamer. I played this game more than any other game I have ever owned. And for what. To be told that all my work on gear and bounties and Raids is worthless everytime a new DLC drops. No thanks. We got to draw the line somewhere.
Mine was the THORN...or actually the INABILITY to obtain.
Now i am forced to leave behind everything i have invested in this game because BUNGHOLE is mad that I'm not a HALO NUT HUGGER.
I wish i could say it was fun. But as i look back i also realize something else...
IT WASNT.
What a waste of 3 months of my life.

***EDIT #3...To all those saying DONT do IB do it in Crucible. ...That would make it 100x harder because there's NO LEVEL Advantage. I would never last 2 minutes in that shhit. ***

1 ReplyI soloed the Thorn and Invective bounties. I'm not tooting my own horn but it's very doable for anyone. Getting the void kills is not that hard...just have to adjust your play style.

Here is why edit 3 is incorrect. Half the people that play IB now are level 30 therefore your "level advantage" is non existent. Also people play much harder in Iron Banner cuz winning actually matters and grinding bounties that require long kill streaks. Because of this iron banner is far more difficult than regular crucible. I refuse to believe you can't take the time to get good enough at crucible to complete these steps. We all started off at "halo" like shit you can practice too it becomes fun. If you've never played a first person shooter (all of which have competitive multiplayer) is be quite surprised cuz why did you buy a game that is an fps first and foremost? Also why would you need to rely on exploits? The invective bounty literally took me 4 games. Just go positive a couple games a 10 year old could do it. Same with the thorn bounty it takes away less than half the points for dying as it does for killing so even if you go negative you can make a little progress

I constantly die and i thought the crucible part of the invective bounty was so easy... Like i would rather do that 5x than getting 10 rare fusion rifles without the gunsmith being around.

1 ReplyTake two friends into rumble and have a full void load out. Try to sit in a corner and not get killed. Yes, camp like a noob, and call out where you're at to your friends. Leave the lobby when the match is over because people will be understandably pissed because you're boosting. Join another lobby and wash rinse repeat. 5-6 matches tops. Have fun with Thorn. I know I do.

I got the thorn bounty done in like three crucible matches.. It's honestly not difficult at all.

If you're not Open do whatever you need to do to change your router settings. If your nat type is not open you will never be the host. If you're the host you have a huge advantage in that match. You also need to change the way you play PvP, It's not pve. I know that sounds insulting but it's not meant to be. Just try a couple games of control where you do nothing but camp a control point and aren't running around getting killed. It's a lot different when people are coming at you. Also watch some YouTube videos where people are successful and replicate what they do.

A bit like saying "I'm punished because I can't have the mythocast, without having to complete the Hard VOG raid, FML " Just because you can't have one gun, ONE gun because you don't like that content isn't the end of the world. It's a reward for a particular task, don't like the task, try something else. Personally i just completed my 3rd thorn bounty , as I find it the easiest / quickest to bust out.

I did this part of the bounty with my Vanquisher VIII , Truth and 77 Wizard plus defender titan. My Kd is the epitome of shit and I still did it so it's more than possible for anyone to do.

I got the exotic bounty choices today. I already had two of them, so I chose Thorn. And the Crucible part, will be VERY hard for me. I suck at PvP, and don't play it often. But I'll give it a go.

Dude suck it up, practice makes perfect right? Keep practicing and u will eventually get better, with that much play time you should be decent at pointing and shooting right? So man up and shut up already

The idea it that exotics are the rarest items and are hard to get. They are not supposed to be easy.

Edited by Kemmin: 12/21/2014 4:49:56 PMNext time, ask for help before rage quitting. There are tons of "help: thorn bounty" threads out there all asking for and containing PvP advice. This bounty can be accomplished with a sub .5 KD. Surely people can improve past that point over a few games as they learn the maps and routes. IF you come back to the game and get the bounty again, try this: play control, not in the IB (elite players go there. It's actually easier to play regular control during IB because of this), and play conservatively. Pick a high traffic area and wait for them to come to you and your void shotgun and void HMG. Also, if it is time to move on to a different place within a map, don't go alone. Follow a team mate for some fire support. Remember this phrase for completing PvP bounties: Fools rush in. Play from the outside of the map in an area and you should be able to do it. Got mine done in 8 matches as a hunter without a void primary.

I'm at best distinctly average at PvP, and Destiny is the first FPS I've really gotten into (only tried it because it came in a bundle withy XB1) And i must say the bounties really aren't that bad invective bounty took me around 3-5 games and I'm at around 200/500 on thorn after about 1-2 hours crucible with a full void weps. What I would say is if you don't know the maps, routes people take, vantage points etc you're going to have a bad time, the same way you would trying to run a raid without knowing the tactics for it.

I hate PvP too, but one day I just said screw it I'm getting the thorn. Three void weapons and just camped like a mofo for a few hours. Soon as I finished the bounty part I left for orbit, never to PvP since!
