Haha totally agree man.
I'm from Australia and moved to the states to play basketball a few years ago.
Shortly after I arrived, a few of my teammates asked me questions about Australia and my cultural experience etc.
One if the boys was curious, and goes "do you think Ben is black" (dark skinned guy, one of my teammates) my response was I dunno who gives a shit? Yes?
They all laughed and said nah man he's Dominican.
I said, but he's born in America right? So he's American? Just like all you fu cks... Quit messin with me lol
To this day I never understood why they asked me that nor cared whether Ben was Dominican or "African American". It never bothered me. But I always found it strange.
I had another suite mate who claimed he was not American, but "Irish American". Born and raised in Philly. But he was very proud of his Irish heritage it seems.
I dunno man... Back here, if you're born in Australia you're an Aussie!
Keep it simple hey?
