The Slaying of Ricochet (A Jakeball Tribute)
The other day I went to a Chinese restaurant with a friend for lunch. After a short wait we are seated by the hostess and given a couple of menus. On the menus are 3 meal categories, lunch, dinner, and dessert. We browse the menus for a moment and choose our desired meal from the lunch category before the server comes to take our order. I order the kung pow chicken and my friend orders the moo shu pork. After about 20 minutes the server returns with our food and asks if we needed anything else at the time. I quickly look down at the plate, scan it, and look back at the waiter "Where's my dinner and dessert?" She responds "I'm sorry sir, but you didn't order dinner and dessert, those will have to be purchased separately." I respond "But it was on the menu... where's my dinner and dessert?" She responds "I'm sorry for the confusion sir, the items on the menu must be purchased individually, they do not come together." I respond "But it's on the menu!! You advertised it to me! and I'm sure you already have some made in the back, just give it to me." She responds "I'm so sorry for the confusion sir, let me go grab our customer service rep so we can see what can be done, his name is Deej, he'll be over shortly." *Deej arrives* "Hello, my name is Deej, what seems to be the problem?" I respond "Well, you advertised lunch, dinner, and dessert in your menu, but I didn't receive dinner or dessert." Deej responds "I'm looking here at the order ticket and it doesn't seem you ordered dinner and dessert, perhaps our server made a mistake?" I respond "Well I ordered the kung pow chicken lunch, but dinner and dessert is already on the menu, it's being advertised, why wasn't it given to me?" Deej responds "Uhhhmm, sir?? Those are separate menu items, you have to pay for those separately." I respond "This is bullshit!!!! I'm leaving and never coming back." My friend chimes in "What's worse? You don't even give us as much food as the Italian restaurant directly across the street!!! What a waste..." Deej responds "Italian food is generally known for their generous portion sizes, we like to focus on other things like clean and working infrastructure, and food taste and quality here, not quantity. We're very sorry to see you go, however, we'll definitely take your criticism down and work on improving our dining experience, we hope to see you return in the future." My friend and I get up and begin leaving but just as I'm heading out the door I overhear Deej turn to our server and exclaim "What a tool!"

JakeballBase 3m ago Permalink@Ricochet The fallacy in your argument is 1) you were never promised anything but a working game that they hoped you like to play, and 2) the footage shown was never advertised as base game footage, it wasn't even advertised, it was development footage, and 3) just because you saw something doesn't mean it should be released when you expect it to, that's not your call. It's definitely your call to decide if you like the meal, and you're welcome to give reviews about it. But you did more than that, you started making conjectures as to why things turned out certain ways, "The food didn't taste as good as I'm used to, that's probably because they cooked it at 350 degrees instead of 375 degrees." You don't know that, the only thing you know is how the food tastes, so that's all you can comment on. Your whole argument is a little hard to fathom too, you expect me to believe they ripped out content to release as DLC, but when the DLC dropped the game completely changes? They did a complete overhaul to many of the systems and you conclude that the content was ripped out just to be pushed back in later. That just doesn't make sense from a business standpoint at all, they would never rip out finished content just to recreate it... I didn't attempt to "win the internet" I mocked the argument that just because you saw something it's now owed to you, that just because you expected something to be a certain way that it should be that way, and that just because you're not happy all the sudden you're an expert on what happened during development.
• Although its speculation it touches base on a truth in games that's becoming a terrible terrible practice, one of which could kill main stream gaming at its core. What I mean by this is game companies will be spending millions to try and bring block buster hits and ultimately flop which hurts the gamers themselves more than the companies. Reason being prices will increase on games. More games will lock content behind pay walls and quality will be lacking. Game developers are in an opportune time in selling and developing their products given the fact gaming has become much more mainstream and the fact they can showcase their games with ease thanks to social media outlets. With this though comes a lot unnecessary advertising and hyping. Developers are spending more and more to out do themselves. They are selling ownership rights to money power hungry publishers to fund the games. This has been met with very unhappy individuals within the Dev company and we are seeing top veteran names leaving companies or being forced out. To this point we see games like Destiny, for one, and other games like Star Wars The Old Republic being hyped to the point there were already big communities behind the games even prior to release. Much of the players so infatuated and blinded to the possible truth the game's reputation of being the "best game ever" is a fallacy. Sure I for one fell victim of this practice with hopes of enjoying hours of gameplay within a game universe unmatched and being awed but, it was met with uncertainty and disappointment. To the point where in some parts, major and minor, I wasn't sure if I was even experiencing a finished product. Or if the developers even bothered testing out facets of the game at all. Sparing you specifics and details in a nutshell very noticeable parts of some of these games just feel completely broken... especially given the promises made. But the hype and potential "lies" aside I feel a lot of the steps taken in games to have DLC or planned micro transactions is purely a financial safety net to ensure any oversight in development or doubt of future success with the ip is met with a maid ready to milk that cow till its dead. To me, at times, its seems developers aren't even interested in playing their own games and they throw together things in haste without passion and heart. Yes its a business and yes you have to make money but look at the past. Halo was barely advertised even back then. Given that though the gameplay and level design were rock solid. It was new and innovative to a point and it was almost the dawn of a new era for console gaming as a whole. I want to know what happened to developers from points like that to now. I swear none of you have any confidence in your product you over hype your games just to make out okay on box sales before the bad news hits....that your game is crap. If not as a whole then where it truley matters. Your fans. Blatant and utter disrespect for a gamer's playing experience when you cant even ship your game with a cohesive story line that makes sense at all or even explains what the -blam!- is goin on. Who am I playing what am I playing. What the hell is a traveler let alone who or what is the darkness. -blam!- grimore cards or whatever. It does nothing for me except piss me off more you couldn't be bothered to incorporate it into gameplay. I feel like devs look at players as complete fckheads that cant tell right from left at times. We dont need you to hand hold us through something but at least try to tell a story given the fact you're in the entertainment business. And yeah this is an rpg so it needs something of a story.. As it stands now Destiny has got so much that makes zero sense. The darkness hates the traveler and its light but they fight each other more? Somewhere along the lines of hashing all this content and enemies out you had to of had something. Either you cut parts out completely for who knows what reasons or you ran into budgeting issues or whatever the reason. If it was money, then why the hell did you feel the need to waste loads of money and as much ad time and promotion as you did. You guys had millions sold on your rep alone, not to mention its next gen. I had the morons in gamestop foaming at the mouth behind the counter when I asked about release dates and pre-order rewards. They wouldn't shut up about how awesome it was going to be. Beta. Beta was a waste it seems. I hate what the gaming industry now calls beta testing. Its not testing. Its a fcking demo. No changes get made and you showcase something only to being even more sad saps into your clutches. Figure your shit out. Do yourselves a favor but more for your fans and just admit you messed up along the way. Implement things back into the game for free. If you want more money which is what it seems to have come down to you will gain so much more fans and people will be willing to pay for future installments if you fix the game now on your dime. It would be like going to see a movie and having to pay another 10$ to see the climax of the plot. One more thing to bring to light and then im done. The worst part about the new content are your claims you know what the fans want from this game and you're listening. Because it hasn't happened. Stop boasting about this not relevant to the game's problems and issues. Stop releasing content done in a hurry. You need to stress test it and make sure fans arent being charged for lackluster features and content. As it stands some new skins and 10 minutes of dialogue is a joke with the dark below. The raid is so bugged and laughable given how quick people found work arounds and cheese strats.
