Factions useless?
With the "commendation" system and vastly larger weapon & equipment inventories; why would you even bother to advance your Faction reputation?
Only for the armor bonuses to Strength, Discipline and Intellect?
Commendations ensure you must progress in Vanguard and Crucible to buy Legendary items if RNG isn't kind to us.

Level your faction - earned a crucible commendation - buy a nice weapon from your faction.

Because the FWC chest has intelligence, discipline, and hand cannon ammo bonuses. If you aren't picking a faction based on getting the right bonuses for your level 31 gear, you are not getting the most out of your marks. Plus you can get a crucible commendation from leveling up factions faster than leveling up your crucible rank.

Edited by steppinrazor: 12/19/2014 4:02:50 AMFor the bonuses that are different. You can't get an armor sleeve that increases hand cannon reload speed from Van/Cru if you're a Titan. Also earning Crucible rep is agonizingly slow. One Crucible match gives you the same 10 rep as the patrols, but you can complete a patrol in a minute or two. So you can grab a patrol bounty, get 110 rep in a fraction of the time it takes you to get a 50rep Crucible bounty+6matches.

I'm back to factions because I have all of the things I want from the Vanguard vendors and prefer the faction weaponry so I'd rather get their packages. Yes this will lead to lots of crucible commendations that I won't raise crucible marks fast enough to spend, but it is what it is. All of my vanguard marks will go towards keeping my planetary materials full.

As soon as they added commendations and removed material trade-in, I removed my faction class items. I don't PvP much, so I now have no use for them.

They're useless to me because I don't play PvP and all three of them take Crucible marks.

If you don't need to buy gear from the vanguard you can just use your factions to get crucible commendations and have a chance at getting a cool shader that's why I rank up factions anyway

2 RepliesIf you want gear from the Vanguard, then you shouldn't be leveling a faction. However, if you don't really care about Vanguard and prefer the gear from the Crucible or a faction, leveling a faction is way faster than leveling the Vanguard or Crucible alone. BTW, if you level a faction you still get Crucible Commendations, so you can still buy gear from the Crucible and vendor.
