Most of the below are pretty obvious... but some may be new to you:
BONUS - Hunter Trip Mines and Titan Lightning Grenades can be shot and blown up early!
1. The Destiny Timers app for your phone is a great sidekick to tell you when all the public events are about to occur.
2. The reward from a public event you get in the mail gives you 5k EXP when opened, which goes to your guns/armor.
3. The Daily Heroic EXP does not give your weapons any EXP.
4. Armor gets EXP from killing enemies, weapons only gain exp from killing enemies with that weapon in your hands ([grenade/melee kills count for the weapon that you're holding]).
5. Bounties give EXP to all weapons/armor equipped, equally (250 or 500, ones with the star give 500).
6. Nightfall boosts rep gains and EXP gains by 25% from nearly every source. Patrols give 12/31 rep. 100 rep reward bounties give 125 rep. The exception is Iron Banner. That doesn't benefit from nightfall.
7. An exotic weapon takes more than 120k of experience to max out.
8. After you hit level 20, every 40k of EXP you earn gives you a mote of light.
9. Increasing the difficulty of the daily and weekly heroics grant you additional rewards.
10. Letting your Icebreaker fill up all 6 rounds then switching to another special weapon will grant you rounds in that weapon. (you get 12 rounds for Patience and Time if you have it upgraded).
11. Hive Majors bounty can easily be done either in the earth patrol (basement of the building to your left when you spawn) or the World's Grave mission on the moon on heroic. For the mission, don't kill the knight holding the key, just kill his 4 major acolytes, die, repeat.
12. Fallen Majors bounty can easily be done by going between the Divide and the Rocket Yard. 2 Vandal Majors spawn in a corner of the Rocket Yard most of the time (sometimes it's a servitor and dregs), and in the Divide 1 Vandal Major always spawns from a dropship and another can sometimes spawn where the 4 shanks spawn (either a major Shank or Vandal).
ADDENDUM: Archive mission on Heroic and Ishtar Cliffs on patrol on Venus are also great places. For the cliffs, head right at the start until you get there.
13. Vex Majors bounty can easily be done on the first mission on Venus done on heroic. Just don't kill the last guy before you get the cut scene. Die. Repeat, as necessary.
ADDENDUM: The Citadel in patrol on Venus is also a great option. Head left from the start until you get there.
14. Cabal Majors bounty can easily be done in the first part of the Exclusion Zone done on heroic. Just don't kill the last guy from the second dropship. Die. Repeat, as necessary.
ADDENDUM: The first level of heroic for any mission gives you X amount of yellow health enemies. Each level of heroic above that gives you the same amount of yellow health enemies. You only need to do it on the first heroic level to get the most yellow enemies possible.
15. Earn 9000 experience without dying can be done easily by completing the Daily Heroic on Level 30 difficulty. Once you complete it, the reward you get at the end puts the bounty a hand full of kills away from being completed.
16. 20 Fusion Rifle double kills bounty can easily be done at the 'loot stairs' (without having to Awoken the Hive!). The building in front of you when you spawn on Earth Patrol. Clear that group out, head down the stairs in the building, then down the next flight of stairs. Once you go through the doorway, turn back around and up the stairs. You'll see a streak of 6 or 7 enemies coming for you in a line. Zap zap zap. Down the steps, through the doorway, turn around, repeat as necessary.
17. NEW - 2 Golden Gun shots will drop a Titan's bubble, leaving 1 or 2 more (if they have the right armor) to kill the poor souls trapped inside.
18. Enemies 4 levels above you are immune to you. Damage drops off something like 23%/43%/66% when you're 1, 2 or 3 levels under an enemy. When you're even leveled or over leveled from the enemy, your weapon does its maximum capable damage in its current state. Note, that if you have a level 32 weapon that can go up to 331 attack, but it only is at 302 attack, you do 'full' damage to an even leveled enemy, but will do even more damage once you raise the attack.
19. When your damage numbers are grey, you are doing the max damage you could possibly do to the enemy. This only happens when you vastly out level an enemy. This is why you'll shoot level 4 dregs with your level 32 gun and have it only do 125 damage, but shoot a level 32 dreg with the level 32 gun and have it do much, much more damage.
20. Completing public events awards you with marks, glimmer and bonus EXP. I'm told it's 500 exp. Every public event does this, even if it's a second or third one for the day. You only get the reward package once per day, however.
21. Every enemy has the same loot table, regardless of level, with the exception of the enemy race specific glimmer boosters and glimmer turn-in items. They are different items per race, but have the same chance to drop.
22. A level 4 dreg gives you 20 exp per kill. A level 4 Vandal gives you 35 exp per kill. A level 4 Major Vandal gives you 55 exp and 25 glimmer per kill. The level 30 variants of each still give you the same amount of exp per kill. Madness.
23. Consumables bought from Xur come in stacks of 5. 5 telemetries per 1 strange coin. 5 ammo synths per 1 strange coin. The sparrow upgrades turn your blue sparrow into a purple one with a higher base speed than the timebreaker.
24. It takes 21 ascendant (VoG) or radiant (Crota) shards to fully upgrade 1 piece of raid gear.
25. Gjallahorn is the best rocket launcher in the game, and strongest weapon in the game.
26. Primaries with Elemental Damage, come from Vault of Glass - Arc - Fatebringer/Praedyths Timepiece (Fatebringer is a Templar Drop, Timepiece is a gatekeepers drop, Hard Mode Only) - Void - Aetheons Epilogue (Aetheon Drop, any mode) - Solar - Vision of Confluence (Aetheon Drop, any mode), Vex Mythoclast (exotic) (Aetheon Drop, Hard Mode Only).
EDIT - Crota's End Hard Mode will provide new elemental primaries. Will update when I know specifics.
27. Nova Bomb destroys a titan bubble in PvP, but does no damage to anyone inside. The lingering void from the nova bomb perk, however, will still deal damage.
28. The golden gun never misses. The bullet itself is as large as half of an entire character. The bullet can miss you, but still hit you because it's so wide.
29. Trouble getting autorifle headshots? Try lowering your look sensitivity to 1.
30. Die in the nightfall and your friends can't revive you because you're too far into enemies? You can simply leave the game and rejoin their fireteam and will spawn back alive.
31. Old Iron Banner guns do not reroll into tier 2 DLC guns. They're forever stuck at 300 attack.
32. Obtaining an engram on your titan, then transferring it to your hunter will have the engram decode into a hunter item (if armor) or a lower level item if you transfer it to, say, a level 12. This is a great way to get your new character blue guns to help them level easier.
33. Auto Rifle head shots only do 1.25x damage :(. The other gun types do much more.
34. In crucible, always get the heavy ammo. It spawns every 3 minutes. On control, that's at 9 minutes, 5 minutes and 50 seconds, 2 minutes and 40 seconds. Wait for teammates to come before opening. A good rule to follow is if you see red on your radar, grab it to stop the enemy from getting it. Otherwise try to wait 20 seconds.
35. Heavy Ammo in crucible drops from players if they have heavy on them, about 1/3 of their ammo gets dropped. The boxes, however, stay on the ground for the whole match. So, if you're near a heavy ammo spawn and it's about to get overrun, open the crate but leave the purple box on the ground. Same goes for a player dropped box. Come back later and grab it. Usually a minute after heavy appeared is a good rule to avoid being insta killed by the other team's rockets. Then run train on them with your LMG.
36. Most bonuses do not stack. Having two items that give increased melee attack speed will not double the effect. Similarly, Warlocks can't carry 3 fusion grenades with the new exotic arms as the bonus doesn't stack with the subclass bonus.
37. Based on my rough numbers and guesstimation, a weapon telemetry gives you around a 25% EXP buff to EXP gained from any source that applies to that weapon. They also last 30 minutes.
38. Buffs on timers (telemetries, Iron Banner buff, glimmer boosters) all work in real-time. If you pop a telemetry and log off, the buff will be gone in 30 minutes from the time you popped it.
39. Pressing the left or right bumpers while airborne riding a pike will cause you to do a quick barrel roll. No sparrow has the same ability.
40. If you have any armor that lets you carry more ammo for any gun, a bug currently exists that causes you to lose some ammo upon death or going to a cut scene. With rockets, you will lose more the more you have, but never lose the last one from death.
41. The blades of crota seem to spawn every 10 minutes in every zone on earth and the moon. The first mission of the DLC has a guaranteed blade of crota right after the Omnigul part. You can just sparrow right to him and not kill anything else.
42. There is currently a bug in the game that won't let your ammo synthesis give you ammo if your inventory is full. Have at least 1 slot open. Synths also don't work while you're dead. Using while dead or with a full inventory will consume the synth and give a 5 minute cooldown.
43. Eris sells Heavy Ammo Synth at the rate of 1 synth for 5 black wax idols.
Hit the maximum amount of characters for a post. Enjoy :)

Edited by ScientificBEST: 12/21/2014 8:34:59 AMGreat post. I didn't even think about saving the heavy ammo for later. Here are a few things I learned from other sources and personal experience: (Sorry if I am repeating someone else's advice--I haven't read the entire thread yet) 1. When you use Suros Regime with the Focused Fire upgrade, you can ADS (aim down sights) and fire it like a scout rifle (one trigger pull per shot) at a faster fire rate, approaching that of the normal fire rate. You will still get the increased damage, so you can really wail on a target. Don't fire it too quickly (faster than normal fire rate) or else it will lock up on you. Note: you might be able to do this with any auto rifle with the Focused Fire perk, but I haven't tested it yet. 2. Your Agility stat can dramatically affect both movement speed and jump height/distance. If you need to jump higher, try maxing out your agility. Great example: when playing VoG, at the part where you have to jump across the chasm using the disappearing platforms, I usually switch from my Sunsinger survivalist build (with max Toughness and Recovery, low Agility) to my Voidwalker class with max Agility and the glide ability with improved directional control. I can usually leap all the way across the chasm in one jump if I use glide in short bursts and save some of it to break my fall on landing. Works every time. It's also great for PvP, where it can really help you maneuver around the enemy for a flanking position or a quick ambush. In PvP I recommend sacrificing Toughness for Agility, because so many weapons/supers/grenades will kill you in one hit regardless of your Toughness stat. Note: I haven't really tested this, but I think a higher Agility also increases the number of times you can sprint-stop-sprint (or sprint-slide-sprint) before you are penalized with a sprint cooldown time. Or maybe it reduces the cooldown time before activating the third sprint in the sequence. I don't remember exactly. When I get home from work in a few days I will test this. 3. Fusion rifles have a "range" stat, but it works differently from the range stat on other weapons. Fusion rifles do not suffer damage fall-off at any range, and they do not stop until the collide with something. Instead, the projectiles begin to slow down after a certain range. So the fusion rifle's "range" stat works more like the "velocity" stat on a rocket launcher. Slower projectile speed makes it harder to hit moving targets at a distance. Theoretically you could "lead" your shots slightly, but that's very difficult to master. Combined with the projectile spread, it can be very difficult to hit a long-distance target with even half of the projectiles. But for large, slow-moving bosses, it can be fairly easy. Note that fusion rifles don't do precision damage. 4. There are 5 "invisible" weapon stats that aren't visually displayed or quantified but are sometimes referred to in perk descriptions. These are: Optics - Determines the zoom level while ADS and multiplies the Range stat by the zoom factor while ADS. Scopes add more zoom on top of the base zoom factor. (E.g. An auto rifle with 1.5x base zoom + 1.5x zoom scope = 2.0x zoom Optics, which would double your weapon's Range while ADS.) Weapon Handling - Determines the speed of weapon swapping and aiming for that weapon. It breaks down into 3 sub-stats: ready, away, and ADS. Some perks modify one or two of these sub-stats, while others modify Weapon Handling as a whole. Accuracy: Determines the deviation of each round from reticle position at the moment of fire. A simple term for it would be "projectile spread." For shotguns and fusion rifles, projectile spread is a more precise term, since they fire multiple projectiles at the same time. (Note: Not to be confused with Stability, Recoil, or Range.) Recoil - Determines the direction and severity of a weapon's recoil. Direction and severity are actually sub-stats that can be modified separately by various perks. Some perks offer "more predictable recoil"--they modify the direction, usually making your weapon recoil straight upward rather than side to side. Stability modifies recoil severity, but it is still a separate stat. That's why some perks offer "reduced recoil" but don't appear to affect the stability stat. Target Acquisition - A.k.a. "Aim-Assist". It Determines how much your aim will be corrected when you ADS toward an enemy, and how aggressively it will automatically track a moving target you are aiming at. I still need to test this more to figure out the exact mechanisms at play here. Let me know if you have any questions, additional information, or disagreements on any of this! And most importantly: bump!

Props Sir.. Been playing since Day 1, and just learned a few things..

For public events you get 500 xp. Was doing some to grind out to 20 and would go up 500 when it was finished. Don't know if some are higher than that.

Edited by Mad--Dashes--17: 1/19/2015 8:52:03 AMAddition for everyone: Siege of the Warmind is one of the best places for most Eris bounties, and many Vanguard bounties. The 2 fusion rifle kills 20 times is easier here during the 5 or so waves of thrall coming down the stairs in a straight line. Wipe once and you can finish it in 2 runs. Kill 10 hive majors in 2 wipes. Kill 7 hive with your super, again on the stairs with the thrall and a few acolytes. Kill X amount of hive rapidly with special/ heavy: again on the stairs with the thrall. Get the Eris bounty for completing any 5 bounties in 1 day, and then it's just a bonus.

Edited by iTz BigAsh x: 12/20/2014 11:30:14 AMReplying for 2 reasons. 1. So I can come back here to refresh myself on ones I forget. 2. Out of all the posts on these forums this is one of the only ones that deserves a bump. Very informative & helpful. These forums need more threads like this, so for that I thank you! Especially coming up to Christmas when there'll be a lot of new players, these tips will be invaluable to them as well as people like me. This needs to be kept at the top of the forums. Well done mate +1

Bump from the grave! Hope everything is still post-patch relevant...

Appreciate the time you put in to this!

#12- I've always seen TWO major and two regular vandals from the drop ship #30- ensure that you ARE NOT the fireteam leader first

Suggestion for number 16 Kills with the mythoclast.count.for fusion boumty as long as tou do not take your finger off the trigger between kills unless the mag is empty A single magazine has netted me 5x2 kills as a single fireing cycle counts as one burst,.the tralls who rush you in three waves in fist of crota are perfect, as are the fallen near the earth patrol spawn

U don't get weapon xp from the daily? Really? Wtf?

Epic bump new players will love this

And in the sea of dark, hateful comments/posts... This bump stood above them all.

In regards to #17, it's not based on VIP missions completed. It's based on number of kills on that planet. You need 2,500 kills to unlock the potential double resource gather. Also in regards to the Destiny Timers, they are not 100% accurate so if one doesn't spawn, keep on hunting. I've found that one will spawn when it says it may about 80% of the time. To add some tips to this one that I've learned through the stupid amount of play time I've put into this game: 1. Ammo synthesis will not give you ammo if your consumables are full. They will be used and put on the 5 minute cooldown however, so make sure to always have an empty consumable spot. 2. The Exclusion Zone on heroic is a great place to farm Glimmer. Put on a Resupply Codes, kill all of the first pack of enemies except one, die, rinse and repeat. Quite fast, and gives decent experience for armor and guns since they're mostly Majors. 3. The Dark Beyond is a great mission to farm bounties such as the machine gun portion of the Super Good Advice exotic bounty or the Thorn's Hive kills portion of the exotic bounty. Make sure to not enter the temple or kill the knight that comes out of the door or it will mess it up. 4. If you have the EV-30 Tumbler sparrow from preordering the Dark Below or the Destiny Expansion Pass, if you successfully land a trick such as a flip or barrel roll it will completely refill your boost. 5. The Nightfall experience bonus applies to Engram redeeming from Master Troller Rahool. Be sure to get your Nightfall completed early on in the week to maximize your gains. 6. To unlock the potential for class items (marks, bonds, and cloaks) to drop from Strikes, you need to complete 100 Strikes across all your characters. 6b. To unlock the potential for class items to drop from a Crucible playlist, you need 50 wins in that playlist. If you have any questions about Destiny, feel free to message me. I play this game too much so I can probably answer some of the more obscure wonderings you may have.
