•
Too bad those calculations are seriously wrong... But go ahead and believe some guy on a website that disagrees with me
Fixed it for you. His calculations are wrong how? The XP needed to fully upgrade an exotic is a known quantity, the average amount of xp awarded for bounties are know quantities, how much telemtries and grimoire bonus are all known. If he made an error in calculation then please submit your proof. It isn't wrong just because you say so or wish it wasn't true.

  •
If you were unfortunate enough to commit to Destiny to an extent that you play all three classes and collected all the exotics, upgrading them all to the new baseline will cost 266 Strange Coins and 266,000 glimmer. If you do the hardest weekly heroic strike on three characters, you get 27 strange coins per week, and the cap on the amount of glimmer you can carry at once is 25,000. So you'll have to do 10 weeks of strikes on three characters, and farm glimmer for about 12 hours, just to erase all your progress on your collection of pre-expansion exotics. Once these items are upgraded, you'll have to complete roughly 1,200 bounties to get all the experience necessary to re-level everything. I assume you will get experience for one equipped armor and one equipped weapon simultaneously. You'll also need to collect about 3,000 destination materials, and another 200,000 glimmer to buy all the upgrades again. And spend another 266 Strange Coins to obtain 38 exotic shards for all the final upgrades. And I hope you enjoy doing this, because presumably, this entire process will start over when the House of Wolves expansion launches next year. This is your endgame.
Just this little text is full with errors and misleading hate. But you don't see that because you want to believe him. You want this game to be shit so you ignore the facts. Someone who tosses numbers like he's one of the hardcore pro's but instead he just done his homework. But he forgets about a lot of things that should be calculated as well. Here we go: Not everyone plays all 3 classes and has every exotic out there. This is just a way to simulate the worst case scenario and make it look like a super drag while in reality not many are so fortunate to even have all exotics or 3 classes at maximum level. This is pure mind-blam!-ing with the ones that already dislike the game to dislike it even more. Upgrading them all indeed costs you 266,000 glimmer, but like I said no one upgrades ALL their exotics. Again worst case scenario. The 266 Strange coins is also false, That's the case when you have 0 exotic shards by yourself through exotic Items you didn't need. Again worst case scenario... I had 12 exotic shards, per example, before the upgrades were available. That saves me to spend 84 Strange coins :o! Doing the Hardest weekly is not the only way to get strange coins, you get them through other means as well. Again here he approaches Weekly heroics as the only way to gain these. Showing the readers again the Worst case scenario... Gaining XP for your weapons is als achieved by Doing strikes, Raid, Killing stuff and the Patrol missions. Not solely the bounties but what does he know? He just wants to show you what happens when there's an XP block outside the tower. Since you can get 200 marks a week which nets you to around 400 Destination materials and there are easy routes on each planet to farm that specific material. I don't understand why this should be a problem. Sure if you got "All the exotics in the game and are hungry to upgrade them all" you'll be busy quite some time... In reality people will pick maybe 3 exotic weapons to upgrade and 1 or 2 exotic armor pieces. In that case the numbers are totally different. Just the sentence, "I assume you will get experience for one equipped armor and one equipped weapon simultaneously." shows clear ignorance of the game. He assumes this is so? It's a fact this is the way Destiny works... This can't even be an assumption if you actually play the freaking game. But again go believe some random guy on the internet who showcases the most horrible worst case scenario where someone is depicted as a slave of the game. Working his ass off to get "All the exotics in the game" to the maximum new level. While in reality he just wants to upgrade the weapons and armor which are the best and support him the best in the 30-32 events/zones. My upgrades were Thorn, Icebreaker (From a legendary Engram so where's my Exotic shard cost now?), Gunslinger Helmet. And if I had a gjalla that would be my 4th upgrade. The rest I don't give a hoot about. So do your math on that and tell me how long I'm busy with those...

  • Your simulation is a bit optimistic but I see your point. I have all pre-DLC exotic save three: red death, hard light and vex mytho. Of the three I only want red death. I don't play all three classes just warlock and hunter. I don't upgrade all of them but my list is pretty long, as I use different weapons for different things. For PvE I need MIDA, Suros, Ice breaker, Gjallahorn. For PvP (especially iron banner) I need TLW, universal remote, invective, pocket infinity. I still would like to use some guns just for fun like the thorn and plan c but I don't because I don't have time and I had an alternative (TLW for Thorn and PU for plan c). Basically I will have to neglect some exotics in favor for others because of this reset. I prefer to use whatever suits my mood. Weekly strikes are where I get 90% of my coins. I might get a stray coin here and there but it rarely makes a real difference. And only have less than 40 left. I don't have any spare exotics to dismantle so I will be spending coins on shards (if I started playing again). You are fortunate to have spares lying around but that doesn't apply to most of us. Main source of xp will be bounties and dailys. Killing enemies only gives drops of xp. If you take the bounty that requires you to earn 9000 xp without dying you would see that killing things only gives less than 100 XP per kill. In fact 100 XP would be great for any mob. The XP doesn't scale with level either. A dreg at level 1 gives the same XP as a dreg at level 30. So no, this hardly makes a difference. Patrols missions also only give 250 XP on a good day. Keep in mind each exotic needs 190,000 XP so killing things for 75 each is impractical. Yes he made an assumption, which was correct. Not sure what the problem is. In fact I wish his assumption was wrong so that I could level multiple exotics at the same time. So while he did neglect some other methods of speeding things up he is still more correct than not. Exotics can only be done one at a time, they all need 38 5k missions to max out, each need 14 coins to max out. So while not as bad as he says.... Still pretty bad. Just because you have a select few exotics and spare shards and coins doesn't mean we all do. Some of us like to play in a different way. The policies bungie presents needlessly restrict me. Glad that's not the case for you but you shouldn't assume that everyone has your playstyle. TL;DR version. You can split hairs all you want but his math is more correct than not.

  • I've read your entire post and must point you on something you say yourself. "Just because you have a select few exotics and spare shards and coins doesn't mean we all do. Some of us like to play in a different way." Exactly this is why his post is not worth the read. He preaches about a worst case scenario where one is forced to upgrade all exotic items. While in reality one does not upgrade all but a few. If he truly wanted to make a point he should stay realistic in his calculations and not describe a fairytale scenario where one is in such a luck of having all exotic items in the game. Why would anyone need all Titan armor for example? You also forget the missions you do give bonus xp if you play them on a harder difficulty. Or the XP boost you get when you finished your Nightfall. I maybe forgot to mention those but these are really important to add. Also there are items that Xur sells that improves the leveling speed of a certain Item. I have 2 Fusion Rifle items that increases the leveling speed. But sure don't put this in the calculation because it will only make it look less of a doomsday scenario. Like I mentioned a lot of times. He just needed Click/Hits for the Polygon website so he wrote an inaccurate article about how Shit Destiny is. If he wants more Hits he should start a Ubisoft article next and maybe a PSN HACKED! article. Because that's how it works. It's just sad to see so many people shocked and believe him on his word while he is A. Wrong and B. Describing a case which isn't even realistic.

  • Like I said you are not completely wrong but it is still pretty bad. What really did it for me was the thought that I would have to do it again for the next dlc, and the one after that, and the e after that.... There are other ways to boost xp like grimoire bonuses, telemtries, radiant light but that would only reduce the time needed by a small amount (for me it would shave maybe a day of grinding per weapon). I don't have a lot of free time as it is. When you are like me and want ten guns to shot around with its a big investment for something I already did. And I don't want to do it again. And I don't want to pay $20 to have the honor of doing it again. No thanks. You might like it but seeing how many people can relate to that article I think most people are in my situation.

  • I understand it's a drag but imagine if there weren't any exotic upgrades? What if they just added a new exotic for each weapon type. So instead of leveling up your old trusted exotic to 331. You'd have to pray to RNGesus you get a new exotic weapon. I bet leveling up that new icebreaker is faster and a guaranteed upgrade. While you never know when the new icebreaker drops or is being sold by Xur.

  • So is he, but why believe his word for it? Because he's on polygon? Or maybe because he is wearing a nice suit? That still doesn't make his calculation lack actual logic. Which is sad because at first you think he's a true gamer that has any knowledge of Destiny before writing this article. While in the end you see he's just another nobody who needed Hits and Clicks for his website so started a Hate Destiny article...

  • Wait so you are conducting character assassination and not actually trying to prove him wrong then are you? I mean you said he is "seriously wrong" at which point... hint hint "citation needed" He might be “some guy from the internet” but at least he did his homework…

Yea that may be true but anything you read on this internet was /is written by "some guy/girl", presumably with self serving motivations. It's up to reader to either take it at face value or do the digging to validate.

  • Yeah but as you can see on the Feedback forum people believe every word this guy from Polygon says. Because he's from polygon he has more credibility than any of the actual players. -blam!- me right?

  • No, I would have said the same thing he did. That article is accurate. Well within margin of error given certain modifiers. You're just too in love with your abuser to see that it's causing you harm. Battered woman syndrome or Stockholm syndrome for video games. Sad.

  • "You cannot strengthen one by weakening another; and you cannot add to the stature of a dwarf by cutting off the leg of a giant." Tall Poppy Syndrome for you then. You hate to see Destiny thrive with so little effort. You'll do and believe anything that discredits them.

  • No, this game will thrive based on its merits, which are few and far between. I've defended this game far longer than it deserved.

  • It is enough to satisfy those who enjoy it. Why spread this hatred towards others and convince that the ones who still enjoy the game, even in it's current state, are wrong in doing so and link them with the Stockholm Syndrome? If we swapped changed Destiny to Christian or Catholic we'd be having a serious case of Hate crime here.

  • He has credibility because he provided numbers, research etc. Which you have not. He also illustrated his points well and resonated with many players. You have not. If you want to prove your point you need more than what you are doing.
