Spinmetal is used for some weapons. To upgrade.
For me almost all my shit takes helium filaments. I'd gladly trade marks for that.

its quicker to farm for resource than play and trade your marks, the spinmetal etc us tottally overpriced IMO
-
Also the only farm that's faster than getting marks (which doesn't matter since commendations are so infrequent) is spinmetal. Think about relic iron. Would you rather farm that, or buy it with the marks that you can't use because you don't have a commendation.
-
Now that you need commendations for weapons and certain armor the marks for crucible become near useless since it takes so long to level up crucible to even get a commendation. Vanguards the same. Every other week you might as well spend all your marks on materials since I doubt anyone levels up in vanguard or crucible every week. And because there's a cap on marks the only use for them on a week you don't have a commendation is for materials. No point in not buying materials if you can't hold any more marks and you don't have a commendation.
-
I buy armor that doesnt need a commendation and break it down for the the shards, plus you can always do patrols whilst you farm for resource.
-
Well if you don't -blam!-ing need it then why complain? Some people actually use it. Oh well I don't. So take it out of the -blam!-ing game. No logic.
-
I forgot to mention that i use a number of different armour peices based on their attributes, but thats not the point. I could get over 20 resource items in less than 10 mins, plus random cryptarch items and glimmer and reputaton from doing patrols, it would take me 3+ games to get 10 marks which is round about 30+ minutes. So there is logic, you just dont see it.
