From the journal of Toland the shattered: Not much is understood about the forces of darkness arrayed against us. The Cabal, in their aggressiveness, make close study risky and imprecise. The Vex and The Hive, are arcane and inscrutable. It can't even be determined if they possess language and culture. But our closest neighbours, The Fallen, are much more familiar. Their culture and hierarchies are similar to those of ancient humans. They have royalty, priests, gods. They have language. And what we know of it disturbs me greatly. Did you know that the Fallen have no word to describe humans? No, their word for us, every one of us, is Traveller. The Fallen see no difference between we humans and our great protector in the sky. It isn't hard to see why. They have seen our bodies pulled from the dust by our Ghosts. They have seen us transformed into radiant demons who burn them from the earth, decapitate their monarchs and pound their gods to scrap metal. All with the light of the traveller. The Fallen are numerous, but primitive and brutal. The strong and proud, with many arms, hold dominion over the weak. We are Traveller. And traveller has more arms than any other.

  • The only thing I disagree with is the vex not having culture. The are shown worshipping in the last cutscene and they have statues of their bosses.

  • Keep in mind this is a journal entry from Toland, who has never been to the Black Garden.

  • Great writing! I wish people like you had put this story together. Maybe Bungie will adapt some fan fiction into destiny 2!

  • Is this on a grimoire card, or really convincing fan fiction?

  • I just wrote it! I checked the grimoire card for the fallen for ideas about their royalty and culture. Everything is original though!

  • This. I almost typed "Why the -blam!- isn't this a cut scene?!" Regardless, well written. Thank you.

Thanks! :D Yeah! I think it'd fit quite well from a lore perspective. The thing that made me think about it this way was the winter's kell story mission on Venus. Especially if you solo it. One Guardian, Ghost in tow, comes streaking out from the tower in their dropship, hitting the ground in minutes, makes a beeline directly for the valley where the Kell has landed his Ketch. His personal warship and home. The guardian then proceeds to lay waste to absolutely every Fallen he sees, blazing a trail of destruction through the valley, onto the ketch and right to the Kell's throne room. No prizes for guessing what happens then. The Fallen probably have no idea what's coming until the Guardian begins shooting. Then, the total elapsed time until the Kell, his personal guard, the nobodies hanging around outside and anyone unfortunate enough to be within 500m becomes a smoking crater is probably 8-10 minutes. I can't even imagine how terrifying that would be! Every human Guardian is capable of that. The fallen must live in constant fear of it being their own Kell next!

  • And even if they manage to kill one of us we just get up like it never happened. Revived by our ghost or another guardian. We are the hands of an angry god in the eyes of our enemies.
