I feel like this would be a great addition to the game world, and here is why.
>Better unification of players. = Players would be able to have better and friendlier connections with others.
>Xur sparrow upgrades would be sought after. = The grind to get the coins for the upgrades would come up in peoples minds a bit more. I know lvl 30s ether running around with uncommons because they weren't able to obtain the Raid sparrow, and refuse to "waste" coins. (Btw, if Bungie could make the plasma drive look as cool as the emerald coil, that would be great :P)
>The Raid reward Sparrow would be more valuable. = Take this into consideration, I got the plasma drive way before I obtained the VoG sparrow, the stats beat the Timebraker in speed(which is what I care about) Timebreaker has more Durability (+10 points more). I also have the Tumbler Sparrow from the Season pass. The Tumbler is the slowest and least durable out of my other 2 legendary sparrows. With all this said, players who dont have the Season pass, or want to spend coins on Xur, would want to seek the "free" raid sparrow.
I would like to see what the community thinks!
Please, share your thoughts!
Who knows? Maybe we could help push the concept of races into an actual thing in the game!
Tl;dr
I feel like races in destiny would be nothing but good for the community, and I would like to hear other players thoughts on the matter.
Thanks!
(if this needs to be moved to #feedback, go right ahead! :])

It would be nice if the developers s added a sparrow arena with death races. Add a new vendor that sells special in arena only sparrows and sparrow upgrades. Add customisable features like paint scemes, weapon mounts, vehicle weapon types, and sparrow speed and handling mods. Have a special currency that can only be earned in the arena and can be exchanged at a 25 to 1 rate for other currencies outside the arena. Have different race modes. Friendly no weapon all out speed races, technical races, stunt races, standard death race, and finally all out vehicle warfare on a large open map like the cosmodrome. Just some of my thoughts. These sparrows of course could not be used in the regular game as people would never get off them to actually adventure. Just seems to me the sparrows and ships have alot of future potential to add to the continuing playability of the game.

I would love it. They severely need more content. At this point anything will do. Then they could add gambling and we could put up glimmer, or even items!
-
I don't see why there needs to be "official" sparrow races. My friends and I race our sparrows and have tumbler trick contests all the time.
-
We discussed it in the Alpha, but it will probably be unattainable on the older hardware, so probably not...
-
And have the option to gamble on the races. Bet glimmer and materials.
-
My friends and I do races a lot on venues and mars so it would be pretty fun.
-
Hell yes! I have a need for speed
-
Why else would there be different sparrows with better speed? There is no benefit in game other than bragging rights.
-
Yeah lets put in stupid races to distract the base from a subpar game. Great idea
-
Yes!! Cmon bungie, let's have sparrow racing!!
-
Actually it would be easy for bungie to do this all the planet areas are just big circles all they need to do really is write code for the set up, maybe a leaderboard in the tower for best times per planet, set the races in leagues common ,uncommon, rare and legendary sparrows and they need to keep enemy mobs there in the race. Prizes could be simple like strange coins, motes maybe materials with an additional rng drop maybe
-
Oh God, please no.

Edited by Synergy-Seven: 12/9/2014 4:18:38 AMooohh yeeeah! Can we also put our /dance emote to use and flash-mob serve people in 6-man fireteams? May as well since we cbf with saving the Earth and would rather race sparrows. Destiny Lore win.

I personally wouldn't participate. Sparrows are pretty slow. There would be nothing exciting about them. There are no "car controls" on it and I like it that way. I can get from point a to point b using one hand. I like it simple in this type of game.
-
For paid dlc? Yeah probably.
-
Duh it's come up. It'll be another 2 months of Soon before it even gets implemented.

Honestly, I can't believe they spent the effort in making such a nice and universal personal vehicle only to not include races. Those were already a thing bungie has done, and there was no reason they couldn't do it again. I fully expect race maps for the sequel.
