Why material farming was good for some people and why Patrol beats Crucible

I put a rant-ish post in #feedback regarding the recent change to the mechanic for handing in materials for marks, and now not being able to get Crucible marks without playing the Crucible (which does make sense). Decided to have a play on a Control match, 12 minute game. During that 12 minutes I do OK, getting 6th place overall which isn't too bad for someone who never plays Crucible. However our team did lose the match, so only 2 Crucible marks. Then the rewards screen comes up and well, whilst its just one match it does make you wonder why bother: http://i.imgur.com/azHKAsq.jpg Here's the match its self: http://www.bungie.net/en/Legend/PGCR/2/4611686018428399095/2305843009214818352/949305767?_ So based on this, getting 2 marks in 12 minutes and then no rewards I just can't agree that material farming is a waste of time. In 12 minutes I could get maybe 20-30 materials + Patrol missions (Exp) + Public events (Exp, Ascendant Materials) + Glimmer + Chest loot (could be anything, new ships, legendary gear, synths, etc) + Engrams So over an hour I could do 5 Control Maps, rewards are very RNG, and at most I could get 15 marks and at least 10. In an hour of Material farming I could get around 150-200 material, which is at most 20 Marks and at least 15, then adding the above benefits it just doesn't seem beneficial to play Crucible.

  • Crucible is not a good way to grind anything when compared to PvE. Wish they would have changed vendors to accept either mark with the removal of mat exchange.
