"Cheesing" The Oracles? Dishonorable

In in a random hard raid group today that was actually pretty good despite a few annoying wait times. We get to the oracles, somebody suggests we wipe and snipe the oracles. 2 players in our party stated that they wouldn't even consider "cheesing" the oracles. I argued that after playing the content for the 20th time, I'd prefer to do whatever takes the least amount of time. Cliff: Do you "cheese" the oracles or do you find this method dishonorable? After 4 wipes at rounds 4-6, we "cheesed" the oracles ultimately to save time...... Edit1: I have and can beat the oracles regularly, I just prefer to snipe them on hard mode. Especially with a random team, one wipe and you've wasted time. Give me some new content and I'll run through it the "normal" way. Edit 2: love the responses, I guess I am not the only one with common sense and a life outside of Destiny. Again, I created this post because the 2 players were basically offended that sniping the oracles was recommended. I wanted to see how the community felt in general. I see that my preference fits with majority

  • How is sniping considered cheesing?

    • I like how the "valid tactic" of cheesing starts with "Let's all kill ourselves." Unless everyone is doing confluxes from the upper platform, don't tell me it's a "valid tactic." From a developer's standpoint the raid is expected to be done flawlessly, we just happen to exploit our ability to die and revive continuously. I sincerely hope a countdown for kill volume or some spawning threat on the upper platform eliminates this cheap and boring "tactic." I'm already tired of getting randoms on every part that ask - Are we hiding from legions?? No. - Are we cheesing oracles?? No. - Are we pushing Templar off?? No. - But what about the extra chest with our pointless couple ascendants?? Block his teleports if you want it so bad. - Are we doing gatekeepers one at a time?? No. - Are we pushing Atheon off?? No. I'm already running into 30s that have no idea how to do parts of the raid because of this nonsense. It's pathetic.

      • We did it on the first try yesterday with new raiders and no cheese. I don't see any reason to change a good thing.

        • The groups I run with regularly cheese as many encounters as we can in HM to save time. Every week on multiple characters over-and-over again, sometimes it nice to clear the thing in 40 minutes. However when I run with PuGs I defer to the group's wishes. If they wanna do it legit, great! I'm down. If they wanna 'cheese' some encounters, sure! I'm always down for whatever strategies are most efficient for whatever group I'm in. I don't necessarily see the 'cheese' strategies as being 'bad'. They're definately exploiting certain mechanics (pushing the Templar IS kinda silly lol), and pushing Atheon should never have been a thing--but sniping the Oracles is about the only 'cheese' strategy I think is really kind of a clever work-around of exisiting mechanics. It took quite a bit of experimentation and coordination to put it together (the first few times we attempted it) and it's ultimately a strategy that is contingent upon group-composition/raid load-out--making it situationally applicable. The fact that Guardians are dead to begin with, and that our Ghost can revive us indefinitely could suggest that (in keeping with internal consistency) Guardians could (with a very small hop in our logic) kill themselves deliberately so that their Ghost could revive them for a more advantageous or strategic footing/tactical advantage. It's not-at-all outside the brand of ad-hoc heroism Guardians are somewhat-known-for. Ex: read Cayde-6's grimoire entry and his encounter with a female Fallen soldier, ir the Exo recounting his experience of the Tower in dreams.

        • I usually don't cheese, I stay back the whole fight and cover snipe for everyone. It's important for me to rid my team of snipers because they will cause certain death. I have cheesed with the whole team before, but we just don't do it often.

        • I'm like a lot of the rest. Did the raid the normal way a bunch. Now just cheese everything. It's no different than older games. When you would beat them, you'd get cheat codes to experience the game different. In destiny, we make our own cheat codes.

        • After our second hard raid my group decided to just snipe the oracles, like you said, just to save time. We can all do the content and have done it many times legit so we feel like why not just save the time.

        • Considering how the VoG "cheeses" us with invulnerable praetorians, random bugs, one-shot hobgoblins, etc., a little "cheesing" payback is perfectly fine. Also, if the game allows you to win a certain way, it isn't cheating. You get no reward or advantage to putting yourself at a disadvantage in the VoG. I play to win and want to do it in the least time possible as the VoG can take hours. Usually, most of the time spent is at the "Defend the Confluxes" and "Gatekeeper/Relics" stage. Honorable or dishonorable is irrelevant. The goal is to win. Period, dot.

        • My Raid Squad only cheeses now since its faster and a more reliable win. It's actually kind of annoying.. I would much rather kill the oracles normally.. It's not that hard..

        • i do both, depending on time, players abilities and number of guardians. with five guardians the sniping is much less tedious than doing it normal. and pushing off templar is too easy not to do, especially when i am a hunter and can go and grab a snack while crouching in a corner. That said from time to time we do templar normal as a challenge.

Cheese it all the way along with the templar. If you want to do it the real way then either it's your first time, or you just bored as heck and need to prove to yourself that you can do it. Honestly take the cheese out of oracles and templar and a lot less of us would be able to complete the hard raid.

          • I'm cool either way... Cheesing or not... It's all good as long as I get the loot, have fun getting it. I don't mind learning new ways of doing things. Every team is different so whatever works for the team to get a smooth raid going, I'm down with it.

I cheese the oracles and every part of the raid I can and then take my loot and skip off into the sunset.

          • We've beaten the templar the "right" way a few times (carried the relikt myself one time, was fun), also did the oracles like it's apparently supposed to.... But now? Why waste time on something we know we can do, when there's an easier way?

          • I have run the raid legitimately a bunch of times. Now all I am trying to do is get the raid gear from an RNG system. I have 3 characters who all need to run the raid so I am always for the fastest method. Whenever the question comes up, I always suggest playing through until we all wipe because we mess up. I hate jumping off of the ledge after I complete a task. Just keep going until we all get killed, then we can cheese it.

          • Any type of strategy on this game is "cheesing" now apparently, never heard so many people winge in my life. would a sniper run right in the middle of a battlefield? no he sits back and SNIPES. lets face it most of you moaning about "cheesing" are just shit.

            • Yes at this point in time I'm in the raid to get my shit and get out. Not spend all day trying to do it the "right way" since I play with randoms hard raid tends to take a while. I need another dedicated group to run it with :'(

            • Cheesing is just a time saver (some times) and people just do it to try and get through the raid faster. Until they fix all the cheesing options people will continue to do it if it saves a little time and effort.

            • Just let the two players who were "offended" go down and play however they want. If people want to stay up top and snipe, let them. I'm sure nobody gets offended when my ass hides in the cave when the Templar summons its legions on hard mode.

            • Hobgoblin cheese all the time! They stand on their perches taking shots at you the entire time. And you can step on their platforms or else you die.
