It's ridiculous that the motivations for the final battle in this game even need to be debated. This just shows how poorly the story was written.
Any other video game spends the entire game setting up the final encounter with whatever lies at the end. What other games are as unclear as Destiny as to why you're fighting the final boss.
edit: I like your theory though. It's pretty good, makes me sad it's not included in the game.

Maybe it's because the story hasn't truly finished? I mean they did say destiny will have at least a 10 year life span or something like that lol..

I understand the story is supposed to develop over time, but if your a guardian and you fight your way into the black garden to destroy that heart don't you think you should understand why you're doing it?
-
I don't remember the origin... by I seem to remember a quote from a military context, something along the lines of "if they're defending it, we must want it." Keep in mind that everything the Guardians, the Speaker or your Ghost know about the Vex is what you discover in the course of the game. There's plenty of information even just in the missions to indicate that the Vex are a threat and that the Black Garden is a strategic target. More if you get into the Grimoire cards on the topic. If you don't understand why you're destroying the Black Heart, it's not because the story is poorly written... It's because you're bad at following a story.
it's not because the story is poorly written... It's because you're bad at following a story.
Hahaha, nope isn't not that the story is poorly written it's because there is no story!
-
Strange... I distinctly remember there being a story. Perhaps you're looking for a particular story that isn't there instead of the actual one that is there?
-
Oh, are you talking about those four cut scenes that gave no context to what was going on? That's not a story that's people talking about nonsense.

And all the story missions, and the strikes, and the Grimoire. There are even hints of story in the Patrol missions and things the Faction leaders say off-hand, etc. If you want to watch more of the game than you play, there's always Final Fantasy or Metal Gear or Dragon Age. Or you could go watch a movie, which is kind of like having a lot of cutscenes strung together, which might be easier for you to follow. Sometimes you can even find movie scripts to read, which not only contain a story but also explain the story just in case you can't infer very well.
