Fellow Guardians, WOW! Thank you All so much for all the Upvotes and Signatures, this thread took off like a rocket and I cannot express how thankful I am, you're a great bunch of people :)
(Please UpVote and Comment "Signed" if you want this to 'Trend" and be seen by DeeJ etc)
Nobody enjoys doing hours of farming SpinMetal, Spirit Bloom, Helium Filaments or Relic Iron
It takes 64-80 of these materials to fully upgrade a Legendary or Exotic.
This equates to the farming for the almost a hour.
In the late end-game most players will need to put in about 10+ hours of farming.
I accept this is part of the RPG-MMO game style put we’re approaching South Park “Killing Boars” in WoW magnitudes here.
Why can’t we receive a percentage of the Materials we’ve spent in return for dismantling an upgraded piece of gear.
Even a token 25% would be better than nothing, it would help the end-game in all the right ways.
An amount like 50% would be great but I doubt this will happen given how the rest of the upgrading system works.
33% would be extremely fair, still require a decent bit off farming but not completely ruin the late-end game experience.
To have a decent PvE and PvP load out takes almost 1,200 Materials.
That’s 3 fully upgraded Legendaries/Exotics in each of the 3 weapon slots.
6 fully upgraded pieces of armour (say 2 different exotics for an alternative PvP load out or alternative Exotic to suit your 2nd Subclass).
Come on Bungie, with the DLC launching soon there are gonna be a lot of very annoyed level 28+ players who spent many hours getting high level gear.
That gear will now be redundant (if we ignore all “you can upgrade it further” speculation).
We’ll have players (myself included) with all sorts of Raid gear, Iron Banner gear, Queens Wrath Gear (haha) and Exotics.
The least you could do is give us a decent portion of our Materials (and Shards/Energy) back.
Please sign, like, bump, upvote, whatever this thread if you’d like to see it addressed by Bungie and the Community management team
Added a poll so you can vote for what percentage you think we should receive when scrapping gear.
Good Luck out there Guardians.
Thanks in Advance GenericDreadHead
Edit 1: Spelling and so forth :P
Edit 2: The Zero % Option edit. Wow, ok seems like I'm getting a lot of hate for the Poll options, for what it's worth I tried editing the poll to add a 0% option.
Guess what? I can't edit it, so.... sorry about that. Really the idea of the Thread was to get "Signatures/Bumps" and "Upvotes/Likes" to keep it trending, the poll was merely an after thought and not put in with a "Add every option under the sunsinger" attitude. It was, if you "agree" with the concept of the Thread, you could add some self expression by picking your preferred solution. You will also notice I did not add a 100% option... or a 12.5% option, or a 75% option etc. I'm absolutely more than happy for a Mod/Admin to step in at the back end and add a 4th Poll option for 0%. Sorry for not having considered the 0% option, as you will see the other 3 options were in my thought process when I wrote the original post. Thanks for your feedback, at least nobody died..... yet... >:-|
Edit 3: Ok..... jeez louise... look I realise that DeeJ and Co would have listened to my idea even If I was a sole person saying what I'm saying, that's whats good about the community. What I was trying to convey in the original post was a singular straight forward fix to what I and many others perceive to be one of the biggest mis-steps in the games flow of excitement (farming).
I'm sorry if this kicked off any other petitions or just added to an existing petition problem.
What I saw, when I saw a lot of other posters suggestions were, and I'm going to be brutality honest here:
Posts asking for about 7 big changes, the kind of things that would be realistically over maybe 4 patches. I may be in the minority here, but 1 thread per suggestion would catch my attention and could clearly convey it's message.
Also, some of what was being asked for was very subjective, I tried my best to be as objective as possible, taking my own personal annoyance at farming and stepping back and trying to focus on that being a possible problem with the games mechanics and less of a "dag nab it, I just hates me doing some loops cause it's all up in my business for 20 minutes".
Also, I saw a lot of "Xur should or should not sell this" and "This gun and that gun should be buffed/nerfed".
There are some great threads with some really great suggestions (see the thread to enable to edit character looks etc) but they were buried in the likes of the above mentioned.
What I'm trying to say in hindsight is, in my long winded way, I maybe should have left out the "Petition" part and just said, "Do you think?" and give Yes, No and Maybe So Poll options, but well, here we are now.
I realise my voice alone would not have been unheard, I just kind of hoped maybe some like minded voices could gather in the same space together.
Also thanks to everyone who pointed out recent comments by DeeJ and co where they say they are address the Farming and Economy.
This is very welcome news but I was just trying to create some urgency I guess. I mean they also said Thorn would be buffed ages ago :D
Finally thanks for all of you with you patience and understanding and ,from what I can tell, little or no trolling :)
We've all made mistake on internet forums, if I could turn back time and edit the thread I would.
So much love for this forum and community right now. Group hug? Anyone? Telekineses Hug maybe? :D

I'm fine with how it is, honestly, if you're doing bounties, especially patrol, turn those into farming runs, I rarely ever have to go out and farm for any actual length of time as I work it in as I'm going. Heck today, I got 20 spirtbloom doing the archive mission bounty, on my way to mission I stopped in several spots where I knew chest were, and looked around for the random spirt bloom spots. Plus, I'm pretty sure one of the coming updates is going to put in a material vendor... so soon your prayers will be answered anyways.
-
Don't care about planetary materials. I do care about my energy (and to a lesser extent shards) though.
-
Bungie can you help I've been doing the raid and all I need is the chest piece and every time I do it I get nothing thats worth value to me on the game can you guys help people out with acquiring raid gear
-
I'd rather it stay like it is. It's easy enough to get materials for new armor that I could care less about getting more back for dismantling. Besides you don't technically need to anyways. You definitely have enough space to just keep them on your character
-
Edited by Slevi: 11/27/2014 4:47:45 AMThat would be pretty cheap in my opinion. Sure I spent about 80 materials in each of my raid pieces, but if you allow a recycle plan, youd be sitting on 300+ unneeded materials. Destiny wants you to grind for each piece, save materials and invest in the right things
-
materials dont really bother me. I use the patrols to take a break & relax & its not like gathering materials is that difficult. This thread just looks like laziness to me.
-
how about give us none :)

DeeJ does not require a petition to recognize a good idea. He already said so. Just check out the post concerning increasing the vault space. Remember we are all mind readers and should already know what DeeJ is communicating to the DEV team.
-
Agreed. I would say 33% would be a good middle ground. I think it should also apply to ascendant materials. It takes up to 24 ascendant materials to upgrade a weapon or armor, it would be nice to get a few of those back if dismantled.
-
Or even implementing better methods of obtaining said materials. Your multiplication is pretty much spot-on, and farming for even one piece of armor can be such a ghastly ordeal. It's just so incredibly boring. Make the materials small side-rewards for bounties, even. Signed.
-
i know im in the minority here but I almost always have 200 of each on hand at all times, I just end up farming it as I am doing the daily bounties and save it all week. (recently just used 48 helium to max out my light beware). the one thing I would like to see is for the chests and materials to not vanish on your end if someone else grabs them before you can get there, I have lost out on so much materials because of this.

I'd rather them just implement the economies for materials already
-
Well what percentage of energies to we get back?
-
Edited by l MySterY l: 11/27/2014 1:19:43 AMI don't think this Will happen its not A MUST. Looking at it they Will just say farm again or THINK about what you upgrade. As easy as that not like its hard to get. + u already get shards/energy back if upgraded and dismantle. I think these idea's are more likely for next Destiny no REAL need for it now.
-
I could get behind having up to 50% of materials return upon dismantling outdated/replaced gear. I would say only up to 25%, but I know that will only serve to make me a further target of flamers and trolls. 50% is fair. Consider this my signature.

I vote for 33 but i think 25 is better. If it's too high they're never gonna do it. Don't be too greedy

(Signed) 50% or more. xD
