Let me set up a hypothetical scenario here.
Let's say you've decided that you'd like to create a team to attempt to be the first to complete the new upcoming raid.
Obviously you're going to want some skilled players, what sort of skill indicators would you use? Would you just take anyone? Take any level 30s? Or would you look for some sort of indications of skill?
Within earlier periods of the game, being level 30 was a viable way of gauging someone's skill level in the game which made it easier when trying to find decently skilled players to play with.
Now that level 30 has become child's play, it's no longer possible to use it as a skill indication and as such we have to use other methods to determine a players skill level so please, don't take offence when hearing the term "Skilled level 30". I'm not saying you don't deserve it, im just using it a skill gauge.
Therefore I present to you what I look for in a SKILLED level 30:
Indications that someone is a SKILLED level 30!
1. Should have at least 10 hard mode raid completions! (This ones important, skill is grown from experience and as such having a number of raid completions is much more impressive than getting a full set of raid gear in 1 or 2 raids)
2. Must be able to solo the gatekeeper portals. (If you can't do this you need to get better. As soon as someone suggests weakening the gatekeepers first or doing one portal at a time I am immediately aware of their incompetence) Thats not to say you must solo the portals every time. The method I use is heavily dependant on the team im playing with.
3. Should have at least 5 different types of maxed weapons, with a variety of elemental damage and understand when and where each gun will outperform others in order to give themselves a situational advantage. Im sick of seeing level 30s still running nothing but suros, especially during Atheon.
Tbh that's all there is to it. I don't care if you are wearing a piece of iron banner gear, as long as you meet these requirements you'd be on my fire team.
Do you have any indications of skill that you like to look for?

But what if none of my friends are level 30, I love the raid and know all the tactics but I only did the hard 3 times... not saying I suck at it but rather I can't find people
-
Ya I totally agree with you. I'm probably then somewhat skilled (I don't have a ton of time to play) so I've had a few hard raid completions and I've never done the gatekeeper solo, but I bet I can because I have a maxed Gjallahorn. I think something that also matters is crucible kd ratio. I'm not asking for a 3 or something insane but having a 1 kd shows you are capable. Because if you can't kill people in the crucible then you aren't that skilled or coordinated
-
i think a K/D of 1.5 or higher in crucible qualifies as skilled player. when you just play pve and never pvp doesn't mean that you suck. but good PvP players almost never suck in PvE. it's the easiest way to compare players.

Love this post. Too many lvl 30s act stupid during the raid
-
Must be a warlock Only 1 Titan wanted Maxed weapons Can do any role
-
^Guy has just broken 2000 G score and uses an Ice breaker which not everyone has. Also switches that same ice breaker among 2 of his classes at least I see he has hardly any medal score indicating lack of PVP experience I know you might be good against the computer , killing them with a secondary weapon 80% of this community has. It doesn't make you good though I suppose when I need a guy to smash the Raid with that's easy after a 5th run anyway, I shall call you

Grimoire

Edited by Ohh Haro Der: 11/30/2014 12:23:18 AMTL;DR, indications of a butt-hurt 30... *looks at above post*
+5 tears collected

jkjk have fun with the new raid hope it goes well
It's more of a 'no life' level 30s list
-
grimoire. if it's below 1900, they're probably not that great. just an observation, can't always be true I'm sure
-
Early in destiny lvl 30 Usually ment he was there when it was easy to push anthon off
-
Personaly I go check a person raid grimoire card if they got a good k/d like 10.0+ and they got 25+ clears I'd say that says enough for me I know you can't truly tell a person real k/d in vog coz of group wipes and such but those stats I look for have proved to be good choices for getting randoms in my experience
-
That's it? Looks like I was a 30 when I was 29 pretty pathetic indications
-
I was doing the normal raid with a bunch of noobs. I was playing on my new level 26 character. I ended up having to solo the Mars gatekeeper.
-
Becoming level 30 was EVER skill based? You know that it was all RNG right? Meaning it wasn't skill based in any posse way. Honestly, getting level 30 gear from the Iron Banner required more skill, because you had a lot more to do to get the gear. In the Raid you can be carried an entire Raid and get RNGed all your gear in one go.
-
You forgot to mention how you plan to figure this out before you accept them to your group. Asshat.
-
Unfortunately there's no way to see an individual's amount of hard raid completions so you're only taking their word for it but it definitely is a good gauge of skill to have a bunch completed. I like my team members to have fully upgraded weapons for all parts of the raid. I personally run suros regime, praedyths revenge and corrective measure all maxed from opening the gate through Templar. Then I run all maxed epilogue, revenge, and gjallarhorn for gatekeepers and atheon. I know most people don't agree with grimoire but I think higher grimoire score shows time played which results in more experience usually. Not your 1500 grimoire 30 who got really lucky on normal raid.

Edited by ChaosTheoryCraft: 12/1/2014 8:09:50 PMI meet your requirements to be considered a "skilled" player. You may all now prostrate yourself before my grace, and touch the hem of my garments.

I think the maxed weapon and the right weapon is a big deal. Simply hitting lvl 30 isn't enough. You need to have the arsenal to back it up.

Just FYI I think this topic is really interesting if one were to create a competitive clan ie looking for the best time on a raid or 100% completion of a raid or a top crucible clan I think you need to look at both crucible and vanguard skills. For me crucible again I would looking at uprising medals. This means the guy was at least not running away from the top player on the other team. In terms of kdr if the guy has a .80 and above and plays strategically. Ie skirmish revives etc or only dies in control when the enemy controls 0-1 flags I'm personally ok with that. Then again this is subjective and my kdr sucks to most of you hardcore players. Vanguard ehh completions of nightstrike and raid is silly just bc I've carried level 30's in those. I think the defining factor for me would be the amount of completions couple with either a high number of kills or high kdr. having both crucible and vanguard skills that i listed above i would think you're pretty good. Elite would just be a higher standard of those. Ofc you never really know until you play with the guy. I've seen level 30's take extreme risks and die a lot in raids just bc they had maxed stuff out. Well I'm only a lvl 28-29 so I have yet to know what level 30 tastes like in terms of power.
-
I like the gatekeeper part too many times do I have to explain how this works or that it's better but I have a fully team we do rain in hour maybe hour 20
-
I didn't read all that but thanks for actually posting "skill" instead of "real"
-
True lvl 30 should not have below 1.0 k/d ratio in crucible
-
The main thing I look for is the ability to problem solve. Communicate effectively and remain calm. Then gear.
-
One way to tell is if they are not a 30. If that makes sense. We put together a group the other night that were all friends running alt characters that were 29s. This was not anyones core group but some random clan members that we have played strikes and NF together. (3) 30s (3) 29s. Gatekeeper first try and Atheon in (2) teleports. Most important in my book is everyone knowing the mechanics of the raid and being able to do every job not just the one you usually do.

Very SKILLED Lvl 30 hunter gt is Rasckalz
