Let me set up a hypothetical scenario here.
Let's say you've decided that you'd like to create a team to attempt to be the first to complete the new upcoming raid.
Obviously you're going to want some skilled players, what sort of skill indicators would you use? Would you just take anyone? Take any level 30s? Or would you look for some sort of indications of skill?
Within earlier periods of the game, being level 30 was a viable way of gauging someone's skill level in the game which made it easier when trying to find decently skilled players to play with.
Now that level 30 has become child's play, it's no longer possible to use it as a skill indication and as such we have to use other methods to determine a players skill level so please, don't take offence when hearing the term "Skilled level 30". I'm not saying you don't deserve it, im just using it a skill gauge.
Therefore I present to you what I look for in a SKILLED level 30:
Indications that someone is a SKILLED level 30!
1. Should have at least 10 hard mode raid completions! (This ones important, skill is grown from experience and as such having a number of raid completions is much more impressive than getting a full set of raid gear in 1 or 2 raids)
2. Must be able to solo the gatekeeper portals. (If you can't do this you need to get better. As soon as someone suggests weakening the gatekeepers first or doing one portal at a time I am immediately aware of their incompetence) Thats not to say you must solo the portals every time. The method I use is heavily dependant on the team im playing with.
3. Should have at least 5 different types of maxed weapons, with a variety of elemental damage and understand when and where each gun will outperform others in order to give themselves a situational advantage. Im sick of seeing level 30s still running nothing but suros, especially during Atheon.
Tbh that's all there is to it. I don't care if you are wearing a piece of iron banner gear, as long as you meet these requirements you'd be on my fire team.
Do you have any indications of skill that you like to look for?

Soloing portal = Maxed Gjallarhorn
-
Being able to solo the gatekeeper with only a sniper.

That does indicate skill. 2. Must be able to solo the gatekeeper portals. (If you can't do this you need to get better. Im sick of seeing level 30s still running nothing but suros, especially during Atheon. Does not indicate skill, is not skill. That is just having a variety to your arsenal of weapons.

Change 2, with a max gjallahorn and tripmine grenades you annhilate the gatekeeper.
-
#1 is a bit extreme. 10 is a huge amount. I agree with everything else though.
-
You forgot grimoire.
-
Oh god, here you are again making another post about who's a real and who's a fake 30. Get over yourself dude.
-
This post is a great indication that you have zero life.
-
I guess I meet your standards of being a level 30 because I can and did everything mentioned on your list. (Not bragging)

Being able to solo gatekeeper portals heavily depends on having Gjallarhorn. Which makes it quite alot easier (imo). Although Ice Breaker is a nice alternative.

1: Not act like an asshat IRL over a level ranking in a video game. End of list

Indications of a skilled 30: They aren't a Hunter
-
1. Epic Raider acheevo/trophy. 2. Full knowledge of raid. 3. Can make 30 on one character multiple ways. 4. Can solo Nightfalls. 5. Has 3 30s, each one a different class. I'm sure there are more...

even though hunter is my favourite character I am sick of people saying that a warlock player is less skilled than a titan or hunter just because they have self revive that skill doesn't make a player less skilled than any other it is just a safety net the skill allows a possibly less skilled player to do harder activities because if they make a mistake they can self revive but the skill although can make some players a bit more careless doesn't determine the level of skill.

My indication is this thread is both dumb and pointless, also it's not the first one someone has posted before. "Skilled 30" gtfo of here, making this shit sound like it's call of duty or something.

Skill indication 1: GRIMOIRE SCORE! a good player diversifies him/herself with multiple types of weapons and learns the different mobs shield types by being in battle. Sorry but 2000+ grimoire score users switch between weapons more than those who are under 2000 grimoire score in my own experience, ive paid ALOT of attention to this. Skill indicator 2: maxed out weapon types means nothing, it simply adds 5% more damage, so that's not enough to judge anything. The second best indicator of skill, is ask whether they have weapon ammo synthesis, trust me it means alot if they have 2 stacks of heavy weapon ammo and 2 stacks of special weapon ammo and maxed glimmer. And lastly, as a third indication of skill, FLAMING HEADS!!! HAVE THEY COMPLETED A NIGHTFALL? this may seem insignificant but in my experience a flame is a good player as well.

PVE is easy to be good at. The very best players have good PVP K/Ds, on that basic i'd say anyone with a 1.75+ K/D or above with over 4000 kills online is good.

While I agree with 2 & 3 to an extent(some people aren't blessed enough by RNG for 3), I would consider myself a very skilled player with almost 30 VOG completions across 4 characters(my other warlock with 8-10 completions was deleted to make room for my hunter) but only maybe 5-6 hard mode completions because I waited until I was 30 to attempt hard mode. Gatekeepers are incredibly easy! I solo them like nothing. By the time my assigned teammate is walking in the portal, he's almost always marked by the void seconds later lol This is on both hard and normal mode.
-
Lool so basically everyone who has played hours on end... GG 'experienced' players.
-
I have to say I've never thought of doing the gate keeper 2 portals at a time that's pretty smart
-
Why can't level 30 just be what it is: A level? Bungie needs to implement something else that shows whether a player possesses a high amount of skill in either PvE battlefield or the PvP arena (ie Halo 3 or Halo 2 style ranking) level doesn't cut it nor will it ever count.
-
I have to say I agree with you only this, I keep a whole medfly of weapons of all types one me
-
I agree, and thanks for these ideas as it is definitely hard to pick out those who say "yeah I know the raid, I've cleared it" and then expose their lack of knowledge during the raid. There is however, an issue I take with #2. Some people have great raid experience, but have only done an encounter 1 or two different ways... this may be because the teams they normally run with tend to lean to one method. Personally, I've done the Gatekeepers several different ways to accommodate different players (we usually have a pickup player or two) who may struggle with our usual method... but it is wrong to say a player is bad because they suggest doing it a way that they have had more experience or success with. That hard mode clear 10 times player you're looking for may have done it all 10 times weakening the gatekeeper, killing the 2nd, then going back and all that mess. I know my team tends to lean towards this strategy... but we have plenty of hard mode clears with pickup guys... but our team is also adaptible enough to change our strategy to fit in a new player or two. Personally, I test pickup players like this: I post on the forums that we're looking for 1 or two more players, and I tell them: Looking for 1/2 more, level X or up. Message Veilsix via xbox live ONLY with your level and class, or no invite. If they message me here, I know they can't follow simple directions. If they message me in xbox live with "invite", I know they can't follow directions. Etc. I'm more concerned with whether a player can follow directions rather than if they have cleared a raid on hard or not completely. I can work with people who can listen to instructions more than I can work with someone who's cleared a raid 10x and comes in with a cocky attitude not wanting to cooperate with our methods.

10 hard completions? what are you smoking? my 2nd completion was smooth as glass. 4x 29's couldn't have taken much more than 1 hr if that.
-
But what if none of my friends are level 30, I love the raid and know all the tactics but I only did the hard 3 times... not saying I suck at it but rather I can't find people
