I give it a 9/10, not that my opinion really matters...but I had a ton of fun and got some great stuff.
I avoided the first Iron Banner like the plague, and after reading about all the issues with the level advantages and what not, I had no interest in doing it.
However after looking at the gear this time, and the bounties, seeing that I could finally get some boots that were +30 light, I decided to grind it out. Starting from IB rep 0, I went about my task.
I started seeing people get purple hand cannons and machine guns after each match, and even a ship! By day 2 I was almost ready to buy my boots, but I went on. By day 3 after getting better at Control and finding myself on some good teams, I reached level 5. I was so proud of myself....hanging in there with the toughest of the tough. I got my ass kicked but I also kicked ass.
I ended up with the IB boots, the hand cannon, the machine gun, and I purchased the fusion rifle. I even reset the stats on my machine gun to my liking.
The only, only thing that I didn't like about the Iron Banner 2.0 was:
1. I didn't have enough time to level up my other characters!!! Can't wait till it comes back and
2. I would really, really liked to have bought that ship. Even if I had to get to IB Rank 6 and spend 15000 glimmer I still think I would have bought that ship. Yes its ugly, but I wanted it and could not get it to drop for me.
In all I would say it was definitely a great experience, coming from someone who is mostly PVE, I had some fun and got some great stuff.
I want to thank my SUROS, my Supremacy, and my Titans hulk smash. A big F-U to all hunters with blade dancer and self rezzing warlocks, you guys are a pain in the ass!!!

Us hunters are not to fond of you overpowerd titans either, especially your floating...your supposed to be the grunts. Your shield abilities and somehlow your fist beats a knife to the face. You are the class most favoored by Bungie, warlocks too. While Hunters are the red-headed stepchild of the guardians, have the least powerful supers- ggun only 3 shots, and still very vulnerable in blade mode...ever see a hunter with a blue bar over the health bar? Never mind how either one classe can get stabbed still have health and put up a shield take 2 more stabs yet punch me once and I am dead, even with full white and red bars. Yet I still had a good time, it wad fun. Took me all week to get 5th Rank, and was able to get 3 sets of IB Leg Armor(auto/scout+1 for ascendants, which I did not receive), 1set IB Gauntlets(auto), both Armor Shaders, the Hunter's cloak, an Emblem, Fusion and Scout Rifles, only won the Jolder's machine gun; some rare stuff too(dismantled). Was able to reforge MG, took 5x's to get what I want, mostly, but only twice for the scuot rifle.

Change the name to SUROS BANNER please Bungie

I mostly agree. I think this incarnation of IB is what the Crucible just ought to be all the time (plus way more types of objectives games). The most frustrating thing about IB is the fairly tight 7 day time limit to get the rewards (aka fix the stupid RNG bs from the raid). I had to stop playing the parts of Destiny I enjoy the most just to grind the IB. The artificial scheduling and rarity of the events has nothing to do with game balance and pretty much everything to do with transparent psychological manipulation of the players.
-
I liked it but should of stopped playing after getting boots. As the rest was a waste. I reached lvl 5 but the the fusion and scout were worse than the 2 I had. And I never got a rng drop during play.
-
It was good. 1000% better than before. But personally I find it hard to put more hours into the game so after the grind for boots I was not intrested in going past rank 3. If I was invested in the game like I was prior I would have sunk 50+ hours into it.

Self-Rez warlocks require more skills than bladedancers though

I can speak for my entire clan when i say that IB 2.0 was a massive success. We loved every minute of it, and boy did some of us grind the shiz out of it just to get those few extra item/s we need to reach lvl 30. I'll tell you something really funny though, i did the raid last night and THE BOOTS DROPPED!!!! I love to hate/ hate to love this game.

agreed, I'm a PvE only player, went in there to get the lvl 30 armor I was missing, and ended up throroughly enjoying it got lucky and got all the weapon drops and the ship, which is really cool!
-
I recon it was a good event, never saw that ship drop for anyone (played over rank 5), I only received the only 1 LMG (that I already bought with a rank 3 on first release). I just wish my IB Chestpiece from Release 1 was a level 30 piece...thought they'd reward people for maxing first release but guess not

It was actually really good. I ranked up faster than I thought and I got all the items the vendor sold so I'm fairly happy. I was pretty short of glimmer for the 2 weapons by the end of it and had to grind bit but I got everything. Scored Timur's Lash in a game as well, that thing kicks like a bull. The reforge option is cool too. I managed to reforge that HC and land Rangefinder, Luck in the chamber + Field scout and Flared Magwell options in the middle. Pretty happy with that. Flared Magwell together with Luck in the Chamber should be brutal considering there is only 7 bullets in the mag. The Solar Fusion Rifle caps off my Fusion Rifle collection. Have a Void Light Beware and an Arc Final Rest - the complete collection with a bit of Pocket Infinity on the side. On a side note, I reforged the scout rifle so many times, I nearly went crazy. I was probably a bit stupid to think there would be some kind of stability perk for that gun. Was never going to happen. Reforged it like 10 times. The pros of the Iron Banner are that I got decent armor quicker than I have with anything else(i'm yet to raid). I can get 100 vanguard or crucible marks a week but that still means a week and a bit if I want to get a Helm or a Weapon. With the IB I got it all within 3 -4 days of play here and there, which is far more satisfying. On top of this the armor is apparently better. I think there needs to be a bit of change in the currency grind for weapons that are available everyday from the factions, crucible and vanguard. It's debatable whether the IB weapons are as good as the factions, crucible and vanguard - there are obviously more options with everyday weapons available but these are legendary items nonetheless. I've read that maybe the currency will change so maybe IB was a test for this. All I know is that I have landed legendary items quicker through the Queens Wrath and IB events.

Edited by TH3 Du7chman: 11/26/2014 7:59:07 AMI have to say, I really enjoyed it! I rarely play crucible (and have an utterly woeful combat score too), but i found it to be a lot of fun, I managed to get Timur's Lash, Gheleon's Demise, Iron Regalia Greaves, Iron Regalia Gauntlets, Million Million Shader, Jolder's Iron Sash and both Emblems. It was more fun than vanilla crucible, and it improved my PvE game too, so yeah, loving' the IB

Edited by Graelock: 11/26/2014 3:00:06 PMI had a great time. It didn't start out on a good note with me. I logged in and had found that my previously attained, and long since maxed out Iron Regalia gloves sitting in my vault, were still level 29 quality, with no re-forge option available to get them up to the level 30 quality. Basically, those of us who grinded all the way up to Rank 3, painstakingly, with no buffs, no medallions(nothing for losses) and harder bounties, got crap out of Iron Banner version 1.0. May as well have started from scratch. I had to dismantle my gloves and re-acquire them and then re-level them. It was completely unfair...it left me with that "what was it all for?" mentality for quite awhile...thereby, taking away from the fun-factor in the beginnings of IB 2.0...you'd understand if you made it to Rank 3 that last time. In the time it took me to get to Rank 3, is what it would have taken me to get to, say, Rank 8 in this last go(assuming I started at Rank 3, and that there was no level 5 cap). ...but I managed all the gear available; including the ship and four Timur's Lashes, which I already had mine maxed out from last go around, and I bought the Scout rifle, the fusion rifle and already had Jolder's Hammer maxed from the last event as well...it wasn't too bad. I even had time to get my wife's character up to Rank 3 for her, since she was already at Rank 1 from the last event. She's finally happy to have ditched her horrible looking Vanguard greaves with their horrendous pointed knee bits...but she didn't need the scout rifle, since she already has Cryptic Dragon, and she's not a fusion person and so there went that. Never the less, I am level 30. I use two Iron Banner armor pieces, in substitute for my raid variants, which are now vaulted, but I still wear my raid helm and exotic chest piece(Praxic Fire). So, all-in-all, I manage to be level 30 while only using one Raid piece...not too shabby. I can now look a little more like I want to look and the perks for the IB gear are beneficial for my new found love for my maxed out Hardlight(extra ammo capacity). Recommendation/s Please diversify the bounties for the next time around. It will get people playing differently each day...for one. Secondly, do not include the Automatic Headshot bounty, unless you're going to include ones for pulse, hand cannon and sniper rifle as well. I don't know if Bungie did it to test out how balanced auto-rifles were, or what...but everyone using the same weapon type(specifically Suros), is not what I would call ideal, nor diverse. It was a huge automatic weapon fest(machine guns included). I don't think I landed in a single match where someone wasn't using Suros. I personally prefer Hardlight myself, you have to fire it in pulses, which makes it more of an art to control. If you just pin the trigger, as you would with Suros, the gun automatically becomes shit, unless the person is point blank. ...but all-in-all...Bungie should inspire use of different weapons, via, bounties, not the opposite.
-
I got the machine gun twice that's it. I didn't buy any of the gear since I already have comparable weapons and I'm level 30 already.
-
I did my Titan and my hunter to rank 5 and kept going in after I got the scout and fusion (which I made void) and pulled 3 hammer which are now all 3 types and 3 lash (which I destroyed one and only got weapon parts :/) and 2 ice breaker
-
Agreed but as a hulk-smashing Titan, I can assure you some blade dancers and sun singers where just as angry at us with our smash and/or bubble.
-
Edited by Vitatical: 11/26/2014 3:55:24 AMI got a machine gun, hand cannon, the ship, and the Awsome sash, and I arms and legs. I could have got the fusion or scout rifle but I wanted that Awsome lvl5 shader. Now anyone who sees my titan will know I went through all the way to lvl5 and that sash makes everyone around me look so noob lol.
-
I found the level improvements and the losing medallions a HUGE success. It made the Crucible very addicting and more importantly, fun. Limited items but i am very impressed with their update. Nicely said!

Lol nice review

Edited by LiL Ray: 11/26/2014 3:14:00 AMEnjoyed my time in IB 2.0 as well, was able to make rank 3 and pick up 2 sets of boots (can't get em to drop for me). Only got one legendary drop (a warlock bond) doesn't seem that RNGesus loves me but no worries; I finally got my lvl 30 and that's all I really cared about. :)
-
I had a great time made it up to level 4 and bought all the stuff I wanted, never got a single drop of anything above blue but meh I never have good RNG so not a big deal I play to play not to get rewards (said hoping the RNG gods would smile upon me)
-
My experiance was the same tho, i was a voidwalker warlock... but the 1st thing u had a problem was also the thing i didnt like, i wanted to get my hunter some gear aswell as my titan, oh well. Next time.
-
Edited by kklathan8613: 11/26/2014 1:46:58 AMI played IB for about 10 hours. In that time I saw 2 IB SMGs, I timers lash, 1 ship and 1 red death drop. I got one of the SMGs. Worst drop luck ever :)
-
I don't know why everyone is scared of arc blade and self rez, arc blade + shotgun2face = killtrade self rez + pretty much any gun while they sit like a duck = free kill. also pocket infinity is great vs both of those also plan c is great for a quick fusion blast just before the arc blade gets you. pretty much any super counters both of those especially hulk and nova nuke :)
-
I agree that it needed to be a longer. A week is not enough time to play all of those matches and keep replenishing glimmer to actually buy the stuff. I made it to rank 5 by the end but I only managed to buy the shaders before I ran out of time. Would have been easier if there wasn't an arbitrary limit on the amount of glimmer you can have.
-
All I wanted was a Timur's Lash to drop. I got 2, only to get Fatebringer last night lmao.
