On the eve of the end of Iron Banner 2.. time for an ultimate poll

Its the last day of Bungies most succesful Destiny event so far (thats not saying much). I'm well aware that most of us much enjoyed Iron Banner this time around. Level advantages were indeed enabled. Power mattered! But so did skill. Wading through the Suros fest of the opening days of the event, to the darker, shotgun infested latterdays as players unleashed their true colors.. one thing is certain - The Destiny community converged upon Iron Banner 2.0 in force. Many people improved their PvP skills exponentially in the process. Rolling with co-ordinated fire-teams or solo-carrying their clueless teammates to victory, the best were able to show their skill. Others realized they sucked absolute balls, and decided to slink to level 5 on the backs of their saddled teammates. Befriending the medallion of iron, they limped towards paradise with their pitiful K/Ds, and reaped the rewards. A sad portion of users realized the fires were too hot for them, and retreated. They gathered en-masse to the forums, demanding hunter nerfs, Titan panic super nerfs, a removal of fusion rifles.. crying about shotgun spam, class imbalance, everything... besides themselves. And yet a final few watched on in agony, unable to play due to time constraints, work, school, etc. They grinded up to rank 2 or 3 perhaps, and were done. As Iron Banner 2.0 draws to a close.. I ask you, Guardians of the Light... which do you prefer? The euphoria of outsmarting sentient, logical, hungry fellow players? The monotonous but equally fun experience of triumphing against strategically deployed and intelligent AI in PVE? Which do you prefer right now?

  • I enjoy PvP but I am naturally a solo player. Having pve to explore or a good story is what I enjoy.

  • PvP would actually be a viable section of this game if it had more game modes (would really love to see capture the flag) as well as a real point in playing it.

PvE is what this game is about. PvP is just a bonus.

  • While I do enjoy PVP, PVE will always come first for me.

  • Why people want to play against a computer that can't think for itself in the same missions, strikes, and raid over and over and over again is a mystery to me. The only way they can make it challenging is to give the CPU more characters, more health, and more shields but yet you can still beat them because they can't think for themselves. Then there is the random number generator giving you gear so you might get those boots you wanted on your first try or your 1000th try.

  • I avoided PvP for the most part up until recently. I was one of those PvE guys that came over to IB in order to get the leg armor that the RNG gods had seen fit to deny me after a multitude of Raids. I am not a fan of the Crucible but that's because I'm no longer a fan of PvP in general. Why? Simple, age and slower reflexes for one, sheer boredom for another. I can be competitive but not to the level I used to be. Also, it's even more of a grind than PvE. So, it's not enjoyable for me. But, I don't dismiss that it IS enjoyable and believe that those into PvP should have their due. Despite my best efforts, I found myself having fun. I had intended only to get to level 3 to get the leg armor but decided instead to keep playing until the event was over. I started playing late in the event so I was only able to obtain level 4 (but I got a matching set of gauntlets and boy do they look sweet). Being from the original PvP / Multiplayer generation I always find it incredulous that developers would actually start dismantling their efforts and intentions just because of some screaming masses in the PvP arena. Exploits? Yup, fix those. OP (insert item type here)? Nope. Players should learn to either beat them or join them. Improve your tactics, use cooperative teamwork, or use what seems to work. Other than that, please shut up. What ends up happening is when they try to "fix" something it ends up breaking it worse or disrupting something else unintentionally. Almost every muliplayer game treats a handgun like it's a death ray. I'm a weapon's instructor, handguns SUCK as a fight stopper. We use them because they are convenient NOT because they are effective. But, when we used to complain that the 9mm handgun was OP in CoD we were told, "Buck up and roll with it". My actual only real complaint about the IB event was that Bungie's assertion that "Power Mattered" was only true to a point. I noticed that while I was doing okay using a maxed out Vanquisher VIII auto rifle, I noticed that I was still getting edged by lower level players in an even match where we started shooting and scoring hits at about the same time. A buddy that started playing with me on the last day of IB was using a Rare level 20 Shingen-E auto rifle. I commented no it and he basically said, "Bungie's full of shit. Pay attention to impact, stability and fire rate, in that order". So, I used a level 20 rare Ghallahad auto rifle I had hung onto. I actually started getting consistent kills. When I started using a Suros Regime (NOT fully upgraded btw) I REALLY noticed an improvement and would get kills on people that had already been shooting me and should have killed me. Learn what works and run with it. See you guys in the next event. Until then, I'll be sticking with PvE.

  • Not sure why, but PvE always was just more entertaining in the long run for me. I had a Crucible "phase" where I played the Crucible a ton, but 500 blue engrams later I decided to play the wonderful PvE with its guaranteed rewards and all. Still do Crucible from time to time for bounties though :)

  • Love the PVE from the get go, but when I finally decided to try Crucible due to exotic bounties, after a little bit of trial and error, love it. I'm really impressed with pvp overall. I enjoy sentient opponents and the challenges of playing each class/sub-class.

I like both and do both occasionally, PvP when I have nothing better to do and PvE when I have some friends to play with. I was that person who carried my team...mostly. I did meet some really good people in PvP, which is awesome to know that there are people better than me, that I was actually able to play with..or against. Highest KD for Iron Banner was, I think, 15. That - that was good game. Oh and I was actually awarded for doing GOOD. I got Jolder's Hammer for it too...but I didn't get Birth of History. I did see it drop one time. That was when someone on the bottom, of course, got it.

    • Back in the days of Unreal Tournament at a LAN party I was serious into PVP, now I play PVE almost exclusively in part because I don't have the reflexes I used to. I tended to end 3 or 4 from the bottom of the list in IB results, died many many ugly and humiliating deaths, and had fun doing so. My first game in each day's IB run I would be dead last, by the 3rd or 4th game I was up in the ranks, then started at the bottom the next day. IB was definitely a challenge, which isn't a bad thing.

    • I'm one of those gamers who got better at PvP during the process. But I still prefer PvE. I'd much rather work with people than fight against them. Strikes and raids are much more enjoyable for me.

I prefer pve, but that's because I don't get killed by fusion rifles or shotguns 90% of the time there. (The other 10% is typically blade dancers, but that's just what I run into more) But no seriously, up prefer pve because it's much more relaxing imo. I get really stressed and rage a lot in pvp. I like to enjoy my gaming experience, rather than yell "STOP GOING FOR ZONE A/C" at my teammates who can't hear me (or the even more common "capture the damn zone moron"). Just personal preference to have a nice, relaxing, experience that I can enjoy. That being said... I no longer enjoy the pve of Destiny either. But it is still relaxing!

      • I'm a pve player primarily and I did just fine in the banner. Only reason I went and did it was for the gear the raid refused to give me.

      • I played a lot of PVP and I was pretty good at it, more often a higher K/D than 1.5 when I focused and really got into it (highest was 8+).. I found it fun from time to time but overall it was more stressful I think. I personally find that you get a lot less rewards for playing crucible than PVE, 3 marks for a win? What is this?! That's like 6 marks an hour if you're matchmade with particularly bad teams. And I didn't get a single legendary (or higher) the whole time I played Iron Banner. In fact I was top of the leaderboards most times and I barely even got blues.. Much much much prefer PVE. Bring on The Dark Below's raid!

      • I like PvE its fun and for the most part relatively easy when you have some solid teammates with you. But i must admit PvP is still my favorite. I was distraught not to have enough time to play the iron banner due to work/ an old 360 with a weak wireless connection but there's nothing i enjoy more than running around shooting characters with an actual brain. True some players are terrible (we've all had them on our team!!) but for the most part players adapt and surprise you with new vantage points, new ways of moving around the map or just appearing where you don't expect them too. I just don't think the A.I. will ever be able to match the real world tactical intelligence that (most) human players possess.

      • I'm a PVE player and I definitely got better in PVP this week. Decided before the event started that I was only gonna do it the whole week. Glad I made that decision and I had a lot of fun. On that note though, I'm PVPed out. I probably won't do pvp until there's another pvp event.

My only complaint for IB is that it would be better if it was a two week event instead of one. Took me 12hrs to get one character to rank 4. That's more than 10% of a weeks waking hrs. But ultimately it was just a choir to buy some gloves.

        • Iron banner is getting better. They still have alot of work to fix certain aspects of it. The control points need to be reevaluated. Also the difference between 26 and a 30 isn't noticeable at all. Had this 26 on my team that was wrecking people. All and all it is an improvement. I would like to see the loot system changed as well. Base it off of performance and not RNG. Maybe extend it two weeks instead of one. Bungie is heading in right direction they just need to pick their feet up and move alittle faster.

I had a Bone to pick in IB. In the first one I was a point away to Lv 3 but didn't make it in time. I don't like crucible at all hell I suck at it so I didn't bother. I saw the message and I said -blam!- it the Raid is being a bitch and glitchy and not going to get to Lv 30 and by the end of Thursday night I got to Lv 5 in IB got my gloves, boots, the fusion riffle, scout riffle, emblem and Shader. Now I'm taking a quick break to Level up my Atheon's Epilogue and the 500 kills for Thorn.

        • Only got to rank two due to work. Not even mad, PvE is where it's at and I was already 30. Kind of wanted that armband and shader though...

        • I play PVE, don't bother with the crucible, but I admit I got to rank 4 on my hunter for the gauntlets (I have a real life love of wolves) and they look so much better than prime zealots. When I got to 4 I carried on til 5, bought everything as a souvenir. Thought I'd maybe struggle with the 10 kill streak bounties but found them pretty easy, twice it was done in the first match after picking up my bounties. Maybe took me 9 hours in total over 3 days. I actually started enjoying the PVP side of the game, something which I didn't expect. So not only did I get some better looking gear for my hunter than the raid boots and gauntlets, I also developed a liking for pvp. I did well in it, not great, but I definitely helped the team and also found myself mvp on the winning team a few times too. It's definitely opened my eyes and I'll look at doing more pvp in future but for now, it's back to my raid team for the hard mode and also helping my lower level buddies with nightfall, heroic and the normal raids. I'd like to congratulate everyone who got to level 30 through the Iron banner. Welcome to the club.
