Honestly ..What's the difference?
1. Boss drop - you killed it a
Therefore you EARNED it
2. Looted from a chest - took the time to look for the chest therefore EARNED
3. Xur - you played nightfall/weekly and EARNED strange coins
4. Mission/Strike - you completed it therefore you EARNED it
5. Exotic bounties - You completed your task and EARNED your reward. HOWEVER RNGesus gave you your bounty.

It's luck, the only thing you can actually earn is the stuff you purchase with the "cash" that you do earn.
