To all you fab Hunters...

Not to rag on any of you fab Hunters out there, but I think it is the weakest class. I made a hunter and got him up to about level 15 and I never touched him again. I had to go back to my warlock or even my low lvl Titan. The melee ability a for both subclasses are almost worthless. A throwing knife that does jack except maybe kill one weakened or low tier enemy. Or a lunge attack that is the equivalent of one standard warlock melee. The supers also need a little fine tuning (in pve). The golden gun can get rid of 3 smaller enemy's or 1 MAYBE 2 larger enemy's like a knight or Minotaur, and forget majors or ultras, you'll need all three shots for them. The arcblade can be used cautiously on mobs so you aren't over ran, but is useless against a boss(same with the fist of havoc but I digress). The hunter was seemingly designed with pvp in mind as their skills seem more sensible there. A ONE shot pistol against a guardian is much more useful than a one shot against a dreg or goblin. Arcblade, well...arcblade...I'm sure you all know how that works. Both subclasses also bring no type of teamplay to the table. The Titan has the ward of dawn, and the warlock has his zone control abilities and song of flame (+1 to any of you who still use song of flame). The hunter just, hunts. Sorry to any of you hardcore Hunters out there, if this may of upset you a little. I just was wondering what everyone else thought of the subject. ~EDIT~ I've played the hunter now a bit more as recommended by many of you. While I'm still about half and half on both subclasses skill trees, I'm still not terribly keen on the skills, and I have gone over them fairly well. First off, golden gun still needs a pve buff. Shot a lvl 12 servitor at level 21, it survived, enough said Second, the double/triple jump makes climbing stuff seemingly difficult cause I end up bouncing of a rock or some crap. That's probably just me though. Third, while a good blade dancer can generate a good number of orbs in a group of lower tier enemy's, both the other classes have abilities besides just using a super to generate orbs. Not a major point, but one that was brought up. Fourth, the throwing knife isn't bad, but I still find blink strike not particularly useful. The invisibility after hits can be nice, but void walkers grenade boost, the sunsinger and defenders overshield, and even the strikers raw damage are more useful most the time. ITS NOT COMPLETELY UNUSEABLE, but the other stuff is better. Also I'm just spoiled from the warlocks extended reach :P And last, my hunter would probably be lvl 25-26 by now, but I can't really stand playing him for long cause I like having as much recovery as possible, and I haven't gotten upgrades for it yet, and I find it annoying. Also I don't have any particularly grand guns for him. If you like the hunter then that's cool, you can play hunter. I'll play my warlock. I just like the other classes more and I just wanted to hear everyone else's opinions on what I thought. I don't HATE hunters or people that play as them. And on a side note, thank you for reading, even though most of you seem to want to bash me bloody head, have a FABULOUS day. ~smitywarbenyeegarmanjenson

  • The Hunter, when used correctly is an orb generator, you can have 4 shots with golden gun with the right helmet on,plus given the right setup one shot can destroy a mob of 5 to 6...its called keyhole and combustion. Boom shit is dead. I'm setting up a hard Athon kill soon with 6 lvl 30 hunters, yeah so we can't push the Templar with our grenade's, but 6 golden guns each with 4 shots...yeah you do the math. P.S. I solo pretty much all of my nightfalls and the weekly with my hunters and most the time I wouldn't have it any other way. Except all the times the Titans and warlock's turn to me for my help

Almost forgot, use Knife juggler and Gamblers Dagger in PvE when you have lots of adds. You can basically kill them all by chaining precision kills. Once you get to the point where the knife is a reflex you can one burst (pulse rifle) + knife to head in PvE without even thinking about it. The knife greatly extends shotgun range as well, If they are on the edge of your range shoot and chuck the knife. the knife has the best aim assist in the game

Use the Spark of Light buff to get to 30. 40 is just a short way from there. Bladedancers can solo the abyss on normal or hard without firing a shot, Invis is the ultimate medic perk and wipe saver (not that great now that you don't wipe to orbit in NF but still very good) way better than self res because you can actually use your super and still go invis on demand. Bladedancers are still feared in crucible. Best option for running sword in CE. Golden Gun is a monster with Nighthawk, on normal CE you can one shot ogres in abyss, one shot one sword knight at bridge, one shot Deathsinger, one sword knight in Crota encounter and one shot Crota's shield. Also one shot Oryx into stagger on normal. 150k damage to Golgoroth while tethered. 4 shot Golden Gun in crucible, speaks for itself. Nightstalker applies Weapons of Light type buff and makes shot critical without the need for teammates to step in and out of a bubble. Create mad orbs while clearing mobs. Invis smoke bombs, purple fire wall, Currently my favorite subclass. Jumping is actually quite good once you get the hang of it. Triple jump will get you to the top of the tower on CE bridge cheese without Bones of Eao. Triple jump can get you across disappearing platform jump puzzle from the far right. Triple jump can save you from misadventure. You cannot use Ace of Spades on a Warlock or Titan. You get cloaks, not unity bracelets or hand towels, you get a mother-blam!-ing cloak.

    • I solo everything I can with my huter, mostly on bladedancer. It's the balance class. The grenades take huge chunks of health out of bosses and if you're spec and gear is right your nade and melee come back almost instantly. The golden gun is good for taking pop shots at bosses or clearing a few more annoying mobs like wizards or range knights. Arc-blade is great for team work on bossfights, put the hunter on mob detail dealing a good amount of dps on the boss when opportunity presents itself. In pvp hunters can excel but only with proper support behind them. Arc-blade can take out an entire team holding a control point but that is easily countered by walking backwards and dulling out the precision damage. Golden gun can take out a max of 4 then you're vulnerable to the warlocks and titans onslaught. It's all about the player and which class works best for you. This opinion of hunters being useless seems to srem from people not understanding how to utilize the class or unskilled players dropping into peoples strike or raid making stupid decisions.

    • Hunters slate.Oh you don't like my attitude as I shove my golden gun down your throat..I will have the last word for I am the fate bringer. Hunters are the hand cannon gods of this game..now get off our shit before we decide to just leave you on the battle field to bleed out.

I feel similarly about the 'Lock and especially Titan classes in favor of my Hunter. It's up to the user and their playstyle. I've typed into threads like this too often with a more in-depth explanation, but you could also have just looked back at the swarm of similar threads. But I will say this, in the Raid, none have questioned my contribution to a team effort, with a few rare exceptions (AKA, running the Oracles on the left side of the Templar arena to get glomped by a surprise Fanatic a lad missed and had me unaware, jump back only to fall off the platform.) The best thing you can do as a Hunter all lies in Atheon's room, here Over The Horizon shines as the base range of the GG is excessively low, however a 30 with this active can one-shot the HobGobs on Mars given s/he walks forward a bit/help much more in killing the Minotaur than a mere Grenade can. This allows the level 29 to carry the Relic so that your team has one more 30 dealing Vengeance damage to Atheon. We're also the best equipped to take out Supplicants with our Super three shots is all it takes to prevent another possible wipe. This is just in the VoG, there are more reasons in other PvE activities but I'll let that sit.

        • The reason why most people have problems with the hunter..... It requires skill far more than any other character. The rewards are really good if you have the aim to pull it off consistently. I spend most of my time with increased stability and reload speed on every weapon I use because of my ability to aim. If you cant aim dont use hunter...you wont like it.

          • It may be that you are forgetting invisibility ability. I have both max subclasses and I run bladedancer just because on numerous occasions I am the only one left alive and I go invisible and revive team mates. Even if only one person dies the other member can keep doing what he is doing without having to worry about me trying to revive whoever dies and also dying myself. I would consider that ability helpful for the team.

          • I play Gunslinger exclusively, and when I run strikes I take a support role. I always have the highest amount of assists on my team because while the Titans are on the ground running around punching things I'm perched somewhere picking off the enemies behind them so they don't get swarmed, finishing off enemies from afar while my teammates are reloading, or picking off all the sniping vandals, hobgoblins, and other ranged enemies that are a nuisance to the CQB type classes. I run with a scout rifle most of the time for the range and accuracy and use my two throwing knives in a variety of situations when I do get up close. With the right perk you can instantly get a knife back with no cooldown for a precision kill, great for being run by Thralls who line up right nice and take knife after knife to the face until they're all down without firing a shot from your weapon. If you do get overwhelmed triple jump gets you up and away quickly and makes you a tough target to hit. Golden Gun is a quick 3,000+ damage to a boss every time your super fills. I don't think I'd want to play any other class, Hunter fits my play style perfectly.

          • I think that Hunters are left out of the LOOK I CAN HELP YOU GUYS WITH MY SKILLS!! IM SO USEFUL!! While we lack this, , Wer'e helping out our team by shooting things really realy well,Gunslinger's stability+reload buffs make the class. Its alll about HOW you use the class not WHAT class you are. All the classes are great and Ive switched between all of them, I just get into this mode where I'll only play with one. I played Voidwalker and fell in love with it but Im playing on my Hunter because it was the first class I made and I still love it the most. Im just hoping I gave you some good builds/reasons to play as Hunter. Gunglinger with Gunslingers Trance and Chain of Woe skills, OR, Reddeath + arc blade health regen + quickdrawn weapons is a fun one for Bladedancer.

          • It's all about the preference. I've played all three and I still prefer the hunter. It's easier to use for me. The throwing knife helps when I need to reload, and my golden gun helps when I need to clear a room in control. That's in PvP though. In PvE, I weaken enemies with all of my abilities so my fireteam can take him down. It's unfortunate that my golden gun, grenade and throwing knife doesn't do as much damage as the other classes abilities, but at least I can help

          • I think most people who can't use the Hunter just don't know how to properly use the agility that the class gives. Also there are no failsafes so you must be tactical and skilled to do well at high levels. Arc blade is great for clearing mobs in pve, arcbolt grenades are also great. Melee is not the strong suit but your a Hunter...not a tank. Use blink strike for invisibility and throwing knife for bringing down solar shields. Golden gun has an explosion ability that kills tightly grouped enemies and also it keeps you at a safe range. As a Hunter mostly I use my weapons and speed/agility but as with every class....you have to find the correct way to use their unique abilities.

            • I love my hunter. It's my favorite class. I rarely die in pve including the hardest of game modes. I've saved my team multiple times from wiping on nightfall with my cloaking ability and gg is great for clearing supplicants or oracles on the raid. I also love how strategic I need to play pvp and I do so decently.
