Survival mode idea

I'm doing this poll due to a reply to a comment i put on the destiny weekly update and would like to see if anyone else would like this idea i'll copy and paste it and hopefully Deej might see it, if not well we might be able to keep bumping this topic. Copied from my comment: I have to agree with most people in requesting a survival mode. I want one constant survival maybe outside the city walls, however people can come and go as they like, so the waves are constantly on the attack and there are 16 or so guardians all defending, it can be an ongoing event. so lets say you want to try survival, and you see an icon next to the tower, you click it choose a location/map (maybe different points of the walls of the city) and you're put into orbit. you drop in (maybe with or without a fireteam) and there are already guardians surviving, you join them defeating the waves, once you beat wave 50 it is quiet for a couple of minutes while everyone catches their breath and sorts out their rewards for the waves. Then it starts again from wave 1, you defend, people leave and people join, just costantly defending against sets of 50 waves. the only problems with this system is people joining at wave 50 and pehaps getting amazing rewards which is why the rewards could be point based and what would happen if everyone died, would the round reset or just wait for everyone to self revive due to it constantly running. It might be hard to implement, it might not be, but i think this method might fit into destiny nicely, it's always nice to try new things.

  • I don't just want this I think the game NEEDS this. PvE as it currently stands is not engaging enough to keep people playing, people are already bored/leaving for other games. The raid is great, but once you've got your drops for the week, beaten Nightfall, and got your Strange Coins, there is very little reason to play (PvE) again until the next Tuesday reset.

  • the whole game is a series of mini survival games you want more :D The only issue I would really see is, it would become the prime spot for leveling your guns or for loot drop , or completing bounties, thereby making everything else in the game redundant, if you see what i am saying?

    • I would hope it would have different modes :p and depending on the planet you would get different enemies, really all i want is for it to play out like zombies...i just want zombies -.- Like maybe show up to (insert planet here) odd haze and all the factions (except maybe the vex? idk it would be hard to infect them with the hive mind and robotic casings) have become undead after a large battle for the planet during the collapse, planets gravity could be altered i dunno. some of the planets defenses could still be operational since the fighting stopped (unlike the massive turrets on mars that are destroyed). Cabal or fallen tech recovered from another collapse or our collapse could have been used as an attempt to take the planet but it failed (bio weapons?) and cause the epidemic on the planet. (maybe this could be implemented as a complete alternate universe side plot - kinda like red dead redemption's zombie mode). Could spread to other planets etc. :(

        YES! This sounds awesome and realistic! (When I say realistic,I mean it sounds like it could be put into the game.Especially for older gen consoles.

      • This is why we got so many shitty "defend dinklebot" missions, because players like you and all who agree with you have simple minds and want nothing more than to be rushed by waves as you defend an objective. Lame.

      • This is going to be added into the game at expansion pack/ dlc number 59 but you won't be able to use it until you purchase the $20 dlc #61. Soon after, the mode will be nerfed and will contain 3 waves, all level 2 enemies, you can't move out of the allocated circle or you will die, and only uncommon engrams will be dropped. Illuminati confirmed

        It should be a Guardian training simulator that you access at the Tower, waves of enemies in a variety of different Terrains, that allow you (as a guardian) to hone your skills ready for the actual fight. Enemies would just be holographic versions of their real life counterparts, when they die they disintegrate in a blue pixel dust cloud. The more waves and challenges you achieve in a single life, the better rewards you're given. Challenges could be like. Complete this wave without taking any damage or only using a primary weapon. Defeat boss wave in under 5mins Take out over half the Fallen in wave 6 with Head Shots Etc, Etc... Waves wouldn't just be endless enemies spawning, each wave you'd have an objective within the terrain you spawn in at. For instance, your 3 man fire team spawns in on Mars at a building of somesort and Dinklebot says. Cabal lieutenants are headed our way to commandeer this station, we need to fight them of and claim it as our own, they're valuable secrets inside. For each Cabal that gets past your defence line and into the building a 'capture' meter fills, once it's filled fully you lose the objective. It could be 25 Cabal drop ships of enemies before you complete that wave, with mini bosses and Tanks coming at you too. Blue and greens could drop from enemies during the wave but rewards (based on performance) would be allocated at the end, upon wave completion.

      • its a nice idea but wouldn't call this survival.. since survival mode in game usually means you die and its over. its more like wave defense

        • To fix the loot issue all the loot could just be from drops as opposed to a reward for beating waves. Also instead of the waves getting tougher they are all relatively of similar difficulties but with occasional and random boss waves with stronger enemies. It would be fun if their was also an outpost with friendly NPC's giving fire support. With the outpost idea the survival mode could be put on any plant/moon, allowing for different enemies and terrain.
