Best Hand Cannon? is it Thorn?
What's the best hand cannon? I went through the pain of getting Thorn. Though it looks cool, it sucks. Reload is slow.
Can anyone confirm damage for fully upgraded Handcannons?
Handcannons are hated on already. My problem with Thorn is getting it. It is a hard bounty then you get one of the coolest looking weapons in the game that just does not pull its weight. You have the Last Word and Hawkmoon that can be obtained a number of ways and it is better than Thorn. You actually have to earn Thorn by finishing the long bounty.
since this Post started I have acquired TDYK, Timur's Lash, and Hawkmoon [finally]. I also have been using Thorn a lot. My feedback is with TL, you can get great unique re-rolls through the IB reforge system. Thorn is funny to use! Shoot at the ships and you'll see what I mean. Overall it is actually very powerful. Great impact. Easy target precision acquisition. By far though, Hawkmoon is the most balanced. Hawkmoon has ridiculous range and accuracy.

I love Thorn. Not all do. I can see why but remains my de facto standard. But if exotics have shown us anything, "taste" > raw stats. I would recommend the hand cannon gloves for reload and you won't notice. In pve, I play more as a team player; I shoot everything I see once before switching back. Your gun keeps the mobs from getting shields back and has nice use in weekly/nightfall. While mine is at 300, I wouldn't go that far unless you fall in love.

And chain of woe for hunters on top of that makes the reload speed less of an issue. Honestly i dont see the need for the buff everyone is calling for, in pvp atleast i havnt used it much in pve.

1 ReplyDisclaimer - I don't have (but desperately want) Hawkmoon and Last Word, respectively!!! That being said, I've been using hand cannons since I fell in love with my lvl 16 regulator way back when. So what follows comes from over a month of hand cannon use, sans the two exotics. My crucible variant Lord High Fixer is fantastic for PvP. The "send it" perk deals 89 crits from across the map, and the third eye is insanely valuable. So much of doing well in PVP comes down to landing the first shot, and with 3rd eye, you can aim down the sights the entire game and keep the radar active. This enhances the potential for landing the first shot on each engagement (don't need any time to move into ADS). As for PvE, it's hard to argue against a fully maxed Fatebringer. I have a fully maxed Thorn as well, but unfortunately there hasn't ever, or going to be a poison burn on nightfalls, so although Mark of the Devourer is great for DoT, it remains solely kinetic damage. The Fatebringer with Firefly and outlaw is incredible. Precision kills, even on lvl 30 mobs deal 1505 damage (make sure "explosive rounds" perk is NOT in use - doing so will reduce crit damage to 1005!). The only shortfall of the Fatebringer (IMHO) is its range. Compared to the effective range of any hand cannon with the "send it" perk, the Fatebringer will come in second. This is why (if only i had it!!!) I would probably prefer Hawkmoon over the Fatebringer, especially for encounters where its beneficial for a mid-long range engagement (e.g., nightfalls w/ lightswitch modifier). Just the humble opinions of a fellow hand cannon-toting guardian! _Ohuigin

Hawk moon and TLW blow thorn out of the water. If you're on Xbox one, and want a hand cannon for pve, the devil you know is your best bet.

2 RepliesIt's not thorn and I thought it was gonna look different in my hand. Looks really weird equipped. The DOT would be cool for pve but I'm pretty sure if you rapidly empty your clip into an enemy, the dot doesn't stack so it only registers once

Fatebringer and Hawkmoom. I have both maxed out and have to say they're both equally strong. Hawkmoon does ton of damage, fatebringer does arc has extremely fast reload with precision kills and causes enemies to explode and it has explosive rounds. Hawkmoon looks way nicer and does good damage but fatebringer literally destroys everything

I'm missing Hawkmoon for my handcannon collection. So far i prefer using my thorn on my hunter, he gets reload speed with chain of woe, which helps. Using The Last Word on my Warlock. Kinda like the dot on the Thorn, damage wise i think my thorn does abit more damage per shot, but TLW probably win in the long run. Fatebringer number one so far though.

I just upgraded thorn to the dot effect this week, after receiving and shelfing it a while back. I have only really used it for pvp and when I do I run chain of woe as well as gunslingers trance (haven't unlocked perfect balance yet). IMO it is pretty amazing, and at the very least fun to pvp with.

Thorn - pvp, long range pve. The last word - close range to mid range pvp and pve. Hawkmoon - no clue. Devil you know - good replacement for an exotic if you need to use an exotic as your special or hvy weapon.

I don't have Hawkmoon , but I have Fatebringer, The Last Word and The Devil You Know. For PvE Fatebringer is pretty pretty awesome! followed by the Devil You Know , The last word does pretty good in the crucible but it can't keep up with the others in PvE So in my opinion Fatebringer is the best HC in the game so far because of the high ammo capacity , exploding precision kills and it does elemental damage :) But I think it depends on what you're playing , PvE or PvP.

1 ReplyI have hawkmoon and its a beast, with 3 random bullets hitting for extra damage it wrecks VOG trash in 2 hits and oracles in 4 hits . The reload is awful but the 13 rounds in the mag is a bonus, the last word is better from the hip but I'm loving my hawkmoon !

I have thorn, and use it or the calling. Depends on what I'm doing. Don't listen to people when they say it's trash in pve cause they are wrong. Always aim for precision shots and you'll be golden.

I love the headshot style gameplay too much with it. The DoT is nice but could be better IMO Edit: best part of the DoT is keeping enemies shields down longer(pvp/pve), not letting them recharge

Have had Hawkmoon for a while and with a quarter of a mag doing extra damage it is really good. Just starting the Thorn bounty so I'll see in a year of two when I finish the bloody PvP part.

2 shots on pvp.. probably the best handcannon on pvp like the last word.. on pve its not that good
