Bungie has to cater to PvP... because by now any PvE players have completed the story line and likely run the raid a few times. Its getting to the point (for me) where I log on for the raids and then I'm done for the week. Once I hit 30 on all 3 guys I'll stop playing until a level cap increase.
I imagine a lot of PvE players are in the same boat, so the only way to add longevity as this point is to make sure PvP content is interesting to play. Unfortunately there are players like me who don't play PvP and we will just find something else to do with our time.

PvE players tend to forum a lot more PVP in this game is on a massive scale, I woke up at 3am, came on and it was heavily actively during that time still, I didn't have to wait while when I went to do strikes during these hours, I got timed out quite a few times due to lack of activity. The PVP is bigger than you think, PvE people just feel the game revolves around them more than they actually realise. TL;DR: People play PVP and it is regularly active, PvE guys need to stop feeling so entitled when they got 2 full blown PvE focused DLCs coming their way.
