Why you SHOULD consider buying the Destiny DLC.

So by now, most of you have seen some people come onto these forums and make fools of themselves with these wild theories and post their silly "messiah's" video as their only proof to these theories, and I've honestly been having a cakewalk of laughter here in terms of this, and then they attacked me with words, so now it's time to take the gloves off here and punish them with the truth. They cite a video of why you shouldn't buy the DLC, so it's only fitting that you read my post on why you should buy the DLC packs. So let's get to it. First off, that introduction you read there will be the only bashing I do in this post, I'm done with long rant filled posts that usually catch the attention of some people as pure negativity. This post will have absolutely none of that, I'm only going to present the facts, and discuss them and I'll let common sense take over from there. Personally, I would have done better with my own counter-video, but to be honest, most of you I believe are tired of seeing go to 'x' Youtube page, watch, like & subscribe, so no, I don't want you to do that, just give this a good read. :) So most of you have at least seen a few of my posts or have read them, and some of you may not know everything about me. I run my own independent game development company. I have numerous years of programming experience, as well as experience in design and implementation from some small projects I have worked on or with, so you can trust me when I say that I know how games "work" internally. So, let's start with breaking down the most "shot at" point, which is Destiny's currently lacking story. Some of you know, and others don't know, that the lead writer of the story for Destiny left Bungie shortly after the first E3 trip that Bungie took, where they revealed a video of gameplay and talked about some mechanics in the game. Why he left is unknown to us, but what we do know is that during that time, and the time of the alpha/beta, the story as well as numerous game mechanics were changed. This is something that happens all too much in video games, let's not all forget the days of Halo 2 where we had a trailer of an awesome mission, and that wasn't in the final game. Content and mechanics get cut due to all sorts of reasons. Mechanics such as Trading, Gambling, and others were cut from the final product. The reasons, can only be told to you by Bungie, so I cannot provide it to you, just know that they may have been present before, but are gone now. As for the "amount" of story content in the game, this is where some frustration comes into play by people, but you need to also realize that Bungie had to change the story in about a Year's time, so they may have been running out of said time to get everything they wanted done, this is also something that can happen when you have big name titles, so the developer will polish up as much as they can to release to you. This is where the DLC packs enter the picture. How this works is when a game is nearing completion, the team behind the design will start working on the DLC packs for the game, this is how it always works, and sometimes this content may be put on the game's disk as a placeholder or a template to upcoming content (See DestinyTracker for info), in fact, many of you have already found some of this placeholder content, but if you've actually looked carefully, you'll notice it's not done yet. I think the best example I can provide is the upcoming "awesome" new gun Necrochasm, which is a reward for completing Crota's End on Hard. Have a look at this beauty, but if you look closely, you'll see the noted Cursebringer perk has a template icon in it's place, and there is no 3D model present for this gun. This tells us that the concept design and base stats were placed in the game prior to it going gold, but the actual implementation isn't actually done yet, IE: It's being worked on, sound familiar?
People are working on this content right now at Bungie. It's not finished.
Also, if you personally haven't actually explored some of these areas that have been found, please do so, and tell me what you actually find in there. You'll find a lot of glitches, non-working elements, and even placeholder or template art which is obviously not finalized, so again, as DeeJ best said, the content is being worked on. So all of these threads and hate messages about "Disk Locked Content" are not valid my friends, all MMO style games use the tactic of prior implementation to cut on the design work of the developers, IE: They're making it easier to deliver the content to you, sooner. This isn't to scare you, or some corporate bullcrap, these "pre-designed" areas are in place to get the content to you much quicker. WoW uses this tactic for every expansion they make, and that game is still going strong, and the people don't complain about those areas. So, why are you community, doing the same to Bungie, when they're using this tactic to HELP YOU, the player? It just doesn't make sense to me. The last thing I'd like to address here is something very cool, the fact that those are "placeholders" in the DB of the game files tells me that there's definitely a lot of cool new stuff actually coming to the game. I believe fully, that the "leak" or "rumor" of the third subclass and the content of Crota's End from the anonymous tester is 100% true, in fact, if Bungie was dispatching their Ninja's to "delete it or face a ban", then it kind of points to the fact that it's probably true. So people please, chill out. This is a MMO-Style game that is very early in it's life. We need to be helping Bungie give us the experience we want to enjoy here. They don't want to read hundreds of rant posts and hate all day, they want honest feedback to help bring the experience to you. Bungie employees are also Guardians, they want to have the exciting journey that you're taking part in. Don't take in these hate filled videos with silly theories as truth. Unless the information is directly confirmed as truth by means of Bungie telling us that it is, or by means of us actually seeing it for ourselves, it is nothing more than a personal opinion, which is not true information, which is why we finally reach the end of my discussion, and why I think you'd be missing out on an awesome experience to let one 30 minute video ruin what would be a wonderful expansion to your game. Game on Guardians, and I'll see you in Crota's End in December! Edit: My note on the upcoming content part has been clarified ash55, the post/thread was deleted due to it breaking the rules of the forum, genuine leak or not Edit 2: Too Long Didn't Read People who are posting videos on youtube attacking your decision to buy the DLC are not legitimate because there is no solid proof to what they are providing you with, IE: they're lying to you, or pushing an agenda of their own. You should at least consider buying the DLC's due to the cool stuff we've already seen some templates for in the game's database, and finally, the DLC isn't done yet, it's being worked on right now, so these threads and theories suggesting otherwise are wrong. To All: I do appreciate the select individuals who have provided constructive comments, however the most of you are obviously too hooked on negativity to resort to attacks on me and anyone who disagrees with you, which is honestly an attack on your own credibility. Your "Self-Entitlement" behavior will not be tolerated any more in this thread, if you have nothing constructive to provide, don't bother posting as you will simply be ignored. Opinions the other way will be completely ignored without a solid piece of evidence to back up your claim (Posting a youtube video will not be treated as such). Finally, in no way or form am I required to post a video to make my own point, if you're too lazy to read or at least form a reasonable opinion based on facts, then don't bother posting either. Finally, to anyone who thinks attacking my credibility is a good idea, I guarantee you that it will only hurt you when I press that shiny report button for misinformation, I have provided my credentials many times before, so I don't need to do so again.

  • I'm not paying shit to Bungie. I should have got the story with my purchase of the game. Not as expansion content.

    • Adds incomplete content into game and locks it away from users before it's finished. Users find it and perform video game black magic to access said incomplete areas. Users get butthurt because game creators would rather send out a 200mb dlc to finalize said area instead of a 1.2gb download to implement it, seeing it as "selling content they already sold you". Destiny DLC haters in a nutshell. P.S. If you feel like going into an area with incomplete/poor textures and/or no enemies and/or no actual coding or events and/or any real reason to go there whatsoever... then go ahead. Just don't bitch about it like a little girl who takes a Popsicle stick straight off the production line and then whines about having no Popsicle on said stick to eat.

you're an idiot and im not reading all that an idiot thinks....there is more proof they did cut content for later DLC then them denying it, oh wait they never denied it because they CANT. A crook is a crook and if you want to support a crook go ahead, most of us wont though. Keep trying to convince people to be ignorant and to support the greed, im sure that wont work for those who can see the truth in their face which obviously to support this kind of greed you have to either be young n dumb (only gaming for the last 8 years or less) or just plain like it in the rear.

        • i do really like that you're trying to stop all the negativity, but bungie has never had to stand up for themselves like they have with destiny. and the lack of information they give is is getting old. Why don't they explain why staten left so we can finally know why all of that great story content was cut? I don't want to believe that all of these players hate destiny, I think they're mad because were in the dark. Just like when i destroyed the black garden the first time i remember thinking "what made the vex evil in the first place? I just wish Bungie or Activision would come out explain all of these things that people are complaing about so we can finally have some closure.

        • I'll be honest, had I not gotten suckered into buying a version that came with the DLC I am not sure at this point I would be picking it up. Destiny is going to need to take a huge turn for the better, in the very near future for me to consider spending any additional money on this game.

        • Not reading all that. I am not saying I won't be buying DLC, but I will tell you why I won't buy the season pass just now, and why I am hesitant about buying the DLC. In my opinion, there should be no season pass at launch, what do you get for shelling out £35 on top of the game you just paid £42 for? -blam!- all! It is almost the same price for nothing (initially), and having seen what appears to be coming with the pass....how the -blam!- is this all going to £35 worth, it's not even half of what we paid £42 for. I will probably end up buckling and buy the first bit of DLC if it's out at chrimbo, but I will be seeking out cheap PSN credit to purchase it with.

            • I will be buying the dlc's as I hope it will flesh out the game. As I said in another thread, I essentially got the first 2 for free thanks to paying only £50 for the Limited Edition. I feel mislead in some sense but I still have hope for this game yet, and besides I have plenty of cash spare after bills and that so I won't miss it.

              • Explain pre-downloads just before a games official launch then. Activision have intended to rip me off and have succeeded to a degree by selling me half a game. I won't be ripped off further by buying dlc. Why couldn't activision have allowed dlc to be downloaded 48 hrs prior to release. I fear for the gaming industry because of the amount of blinded fanboys

                • I am still on the fence. I have read the arguments for buying and against buying the DLC. Honestly, I think it would be best to wait till it comes out and see what the reviews say. Not just mainstream reviews but reviews from players I know personally.

So.. you're like a Bungie employee, and you get paid on royalties from DLCs so you feel you need to talk people into buying it? First off, the "locked" content on the disc is irrelevant to any of this. Destiny should be judged on what was delivered, not what is locked away and may or may not be finished - or may or may not have been intended to be included in the initial release. The only relevant question one should ask themselves, is whether they are happy with what's been delivered. The rest is just noise. Ignore it. Bungie made a mess of Destiny. For whatever reason, the entire story line was changed shortly before release. That in and of itself is not an issue, the issue is what they delivered was cobbled together. It doesn't matter that the story "changed", it mattered that the story they delivered was crap. Bungie, through their marketing materials, E3 videos, etc. either implied or came right out and stated certain things which led people to believe they were getting something they did not, although it also wouldn't be fair to say they didn't deliver on anything. There are many aspects that ARE well done, and the gameplay IS fun (if not repetitive - can you count how many times you've killed Sepiks Prime?). VoG, despite its faults, has given me much enjoyment. This gives me hope that the DLC will offer some more enjoyable gameplay, and hopefully clean up the mess they made with the story, at least to some degree. Destiny, despite its faults (and it DOES have some glaring faults) is still a decent game, and the potential is still there to make Destiny something special. But don't tell me - or everyone in general - to buy the DLC and give me all the reasons why (or to not buy it, for that matter). You haven't played it; you have no idea and no expertise whatsoever. The DLC should be judged in and of itself, and the content should speak for the reasons whether it's worth it or not.

                  • Well, I got the deluxe edition so I already have the DLCs but even if I didn't get the deluxe edition i'd probably buy them. Destiny is fun, i'll buy more content for a game that entertains me. I don't care if it's locked on the disc.

                  • Just want to correct you on something, you can't state the info given by the AMA Bungie employee as fact, as it isn't. If you want to know Bungies reply to that they said it through DeeJ. Whether or not you believe him, and through him Bungie, is up to you. I just wanted to point this out.

I'll just be doing weekly/nightfall stuff i guess and checking what xur has to sell, but hopefully the dlc will breathe some life back into the game for me.

I don't understand why people are saying is 3 5 bucks for the next expansion. The 3 5 bucks is for the expansion PASS which contains The Dark Below, set for December, AND House Of Wolves which from the title has to do with the Queen and her pet fallen I think. If House Of Wolves is as big as the expansion In December is then that's like getting 2 more games for 35 bucks which seems pretty good deal to me.

                  • Outstanding. I can't imagine a company would commit suicide the way that all the childish tools are saying Bungie supposedly trying. Grow up, have fun playing the game and wait for the DLC. It's $60, not the end of the world. If you are lamenting over spending $60 on the game and another $35 for the DLC, you probably shouldn't be spending money on games. For f*ck sake - if you are so upset, stop playing. Leave it to those of us who are still having fun (it is a game after all) and find somewhere else to throw your tantrums. Threaten to never buy another Bungie game again? Really, no one cares and this won't hurt Bungie at all.

                    • Don't buy the dlc. Unless the dlc is 1.5 times the size of the current content that is available at this time it wont be worth it at all. This is because for the people who will still cling to this game by the time the dlc comes out will be so starved for new content that they will burn through what ever is released at that time and will then have nothing left in a matter of days. This being said if the did make the dlc 1.5 times as large this would make the game worth playing some more and would make it so no one could just burn through the dlc as quickly. btw if you think adding that much content is BS. PSU released a 1.5gb dlc pack while the whole game itself was onll .9 gb and that includes the story. the whole dlc pack was just for multi player. but then again PSU was a really mmo-rpg so I guess we shouldn't expect to much dlc for Destiny.
