Why you SHOULD consider buying the Destiny DLC.

So by now, most of you have seen some people come onto these forums and make fools of themselves with these wild theories and post their silly "messiah's" video as their only proof to these theories, and I've honestly been having a cakewalk of laughter here in terms of this, and then they attacked me with words, so now it's time to take the gloves off here and punish them with the truth. They cite a video of why you shouldn't buy the DLC, so it's only fitting that you read my post on why you should buy the DLC packs. So let's get to it. First off, that introduction you read there will be the only bashing I do in this post, I'm done with long rant filled posts that usually catch the attention of some people as pure negativity. This post will have absolutely none of that, I'm only going to present the facts, and discuss them and I'll let common sense take over from there. Personally, I would have done better with my own counter-video, but to be honest, most of you I believe are tired of seeing go to 'x' Youtube page, watch, like & subscribe, so no, I don't want you to do that, just give this a good read. :) So most of you have at least seen a few of my posts or have read them, and some of you may not know everything about me. I run my own independent game development company. I have numerous years of programming experience, as well as experience in design and implementation from some small projects I have worked on or with, so you can trust me when I say that I know how games "work" internally. So, let's start with breaking down the most "shot at" point, which is Destiny's currently lacking story. Some of you know, and others don't know, that the lead writer of the story for Destiny left Bungie shortly after the first E3 trip that Bungie took, where they revealed a video of gameplay and talked about some mechanics in the game. Why he left is unknown to us, but what we do know is that during that time, and the time of the alpha/beta, the story as well as numerous game mechanics were changed. This is something that happens all too much in video games, let's not all forget the days of Halo 2 where we had a trailer of an awesome mission, and that wasn't in the final game. Content and mechanics get cut due to all sorts of reasons. Mechanics such as Trading, Gambling, and others were cut from the final product. The reasons, can only be told to you by Bungie, so I cannot provide it to you, just know that they may have been present before, but are gone now. As for the "amount" of story content in the game, this is where some frustration comes into play by people, but you need to also realize that Bungie had to change the story in about a Year's time, so they may have been running out of said time to get everything they wanted done, this is also something that can happen when you have big name titles, so the developer will polish up as much as they can to release to you. This is where the DLC packs enter the picture. How this works is when a game is nearing completion, the team behind the design will start working on the DLC packs for the game, this is how it always works, and sometimes this content may be put on the game's disk as a placeholder or a template to upcoming content (See DestinyTracker for info), in fact, many of you have already found some of this placeholder content, but if you've actually looked carefully, you'll notice it's not done yet. I think the best example I can provide is the upcoming "awesome" new gun Necrochasm, which is a reward for completing Crota's End on Hard. Have a look at this beauty, but if you look closely, you'll see the noted Cursebringer perk has a template icon in it's place, and there is no 3D model present for this gun. This tells us that the concept design and base stats were placed in the game prior to it going gold, but the actual implementation isn't actually done yet, IE: It's being worked on, sound familiar?
People are working on this content right now at Bungie. It's not finished.
Also, if you personally haven't actually explored some of these areas that have been found, please do so, and tell me what you actually find in there. You'll find a lot of glitches, non-working elements, and even placeholder or template art which is obviously not finalized, so again, as DeeJ best said, the content is being worked on. So all of these threads and hate messages about "Disk Locked Content" are not valid my friends, all MMO style games use the tactic of prior implementation to cut on the design work of the developers, IE: They're making it easier to deliver the content to you, sooner. This isn't to scare you, or some corporate bullcrap, these "pre-designed" areas are in place to get the content to you much quicker. WoW uses this tactic for every expansion they make, and that game is still going strong, and the people don't complain about those areas. So, why are you community, doing the same to Bungie, when they're using this tactic to HELP YOU, the player? It just doesn't make sense to me. The last thing I'd like to address here is something very cool, the fact that those are "placeholders" in the DB of the game files tells me that there's definitely a lot of cool new stuff actually coming to the game. I believe fully, that the "leak" or "rumor" of the third subclass and the content of Crota's End from the anonymous tester is 100% true, in fact, if Bungie was dispatching their Ninja's to "delete it or face a ban", then it kind of points to the fact that it's probably true. So people please, chill out. This is a MMO-Style game that is very early in it's life. We need to be helping Bungie give us the experience we want to enjoy here. They don't want to read hundreds of rant posts and hate all day, they want honest feedback to help bring the experience to you. Bungie employees are also Guardians, they want to have the exciting journey that you're taking part in. Don't take in these hate filled videos with silly theories as truth. Unless the information is directly confirmed as truth by means of Bungie telling us that it is, or by means of us actually seeing it for ourselves, it is nothing more than a personal opinion, which is not true information, which is why we finally reach the end of my discussion, and why I think you'd be missing out on an awesome experience to let one 30 minute video ruin what would be a wonderful expansion to your game. Game on Guardians, and I'll see you in Crota's End in December! Edit: My note on the upcoming content part has been clarified ash55, the post/thread was deleted due to it breaking the rules of the forum, genuine leak or not Edit 2: Too Long Didn't Read People who are posting videos on youtube attacking your decision to buy the DLC are not legitimate because there is no solid proof to what they are providing you with, IE: they're lying to you, or pushing an agenda of their own. You should at least consider buying the DLC's due to the cool stuff we've already seen some templates for in the game's database, and finally, the DLC isn't done yet, it's being worked on right now, so these threads and theories suggesting otherwise are wrong. To All: I do appreciate the select individuals who have provided constructive comments, however the most of you are obviously too hooked on negativity to resort to attacks on me and anyone who disagrees with you, which is honestly an attack on your own credibility. Your "Self-Entitlement" behavior will not be tolerated any more in this thread, if you have nothing constructive to provide, don't bother posting as you will simply be ignored. Opinions the other way will be completely ignored without a solid piece of evidence to back up your claim (Posting a youtube video will not be treated as such). Finally, in no way or form am I required to post a video to make my own point, if you're too lazy to read or at least form a reasonable opinion based on facts, then don't bother posting either. Finally, to anyone who thinks attacking my credibility is a good idea, I guarantee you that it will only hurt you when I press that shiny report button for misinformation, I have provided my credentials many times before, so I don't need to do so again.

  • Funny how you would trust anything bungie says after experiencing the iron banner. Strike1. Not like what we saw previously for game. Strike 2. Locks disc content to sell like half the game as dlc to maximize profit . Strike 3. Says iron banner about gear but later releases caps so everyone still equal. You can trust everything they say but eventually you will understand

      • I won't be getting the DLC. The reason I bought Destiny was because I liked the beta and I was using it to pass the time until the Master Cheif Collection comes out. That said, maybe if the expansions actually look good and they actually add a reason a play the game other than to try and squeeze my 60$ worth out of it, i'll consider buying an expansion.

        • of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion. if I may share mine briefly. the amount of content in the game was worth 60$ (lets face it we have all come across worse). yea the story was lacking off the deep end but personally the vast amount of lore was a good read. of course its grindy and repetitive but what mmo/rpg isn't? to me it doesn't matter so much whether it is the same mission over and over or a variety. making connections while trying to max that character tends to be the end game for people who are still enjoying it. lastly isn't it rumored that the story itself will not only expand through dlc but also future destiny games?

        • So this guy provides a long ass paragraph filled with nothing but his opinion based on nothing but the fact that he works for a mediocre company that made a shit game. The most pathetic argument someone can make is " they are still tweaking it therefore it was not going to be released at launch therefore they didn't cut content". All you need to know guys, to see if someone is full of shit is by seeing them talk a lot about their opinion based on small unimportant things and simply give a black and white simplistic answer. Its not that simple.

          • The game is clearly a work in progress. To many people like to jump on bandwagons and feel cool with everybody else. The game is good, the mechanics are freaking spot on, the story is lacking in-game but if you read the grimiore cards the story is freaking amazing (it'd be nice to read these in game though). Destiny has a lot of good things but like all huge games it has problems. I believe this game can turn amazing especially with all the additions planned. However I feel Bungie is going the wrong route on a lot of things. Instead of addressing the key issues they are attempting to please some that are exceptionally loud on these forums. Nerfs/buffs and over reacting to them, fixing or changing mechanics that don't need it, the RNG, certain things need sorted. Bungie should be focusing on the bugsthat are still present for example: teleporting bug in VoG when a player will come through the portal to an empty place. Obviously there are more but they are so focused on things this crappy community is whining about rather than fixing the problems they are patching the wounds.

          • support bungie. give them the chance to make this game awesome. money talks and if you like destiny and want it to succeed you have to support it or it will die. devs don't get much motivation or support to continue from investors if dlc doesn't make any gains also let them know we don't want this game to be a franchise. I don't know how everyone else feels about this but I would like destiny to build off this initial title. and I don't want to see destiny two, destiny 3 or destiny 4. i just want this game to grow. and as more content comes out the initial offering becomes cheaper. as it should because it's old content and new players can get all the content for a good price.

How does one go about getting evidence for an opinion? Don't get me wrong, I agree with most of what you said there, but you cant expect people to have "evidence" for their personal opinions. It's just impossible. That would be like saying I ignore anyone who doesn't like Metallica because they have no solid evidence to prove it. Doesn't make sense, does it?

Then when you buy the DLC you can see the changes (scripts will be activated, Mobs will spawn) to the maps if any. But you won't, because you will make up some sort of excuse saying that you don't want to get banned.

You haven't provided any real reasons for why people should buy the DLC, apart from your own belief that "good things are coming," and "stuff will get better." The fact that Bungie had to alter the story prior to release, resulting in the failed narrative that we got, is not a valid reason for buying more of it. As yet, we don't really know if the hidden areas are fully completed assests that have simply been locked, or placeholders to be replaced by more and better content later on. I have been able to access some of these areas myself, and from what I've seen (compared to the rest of the game) the only things that these areas appear to be missing are scripted objects and enemies. In any case, placeholders for yet-to-be-completed content do not mean that said content will of any value, or a reason to buy the DLC. On a side note: How does placing part of the content on the game disc, as opposed to in the DLC download, deliver it to players that much sooner? Would not such a difference be so negligible as to be completely insignificant? As far as these videos you keep referring to, the fact that Bungie has not confirmed the assertions they make does not mean that they must all be lies. "A refusal to confess does not prove guilt." Lastly, I wish to address your "To All" comments: Seriously? You want constructive comments, yet you vilify people who disagree with you? You want to dictate how people address and rebut your arguments? You predetermine the validity of the evidence that people can provide, when you yourself offer none of your own? And on top of it all, you threaten to report people who challenge your credibility? Are you kidding me? unless you work for Bungie, or have someone on the inside, you don't know what they're doing anymore than the rest of us. Instead of debating the issues with the rest of the community, you only seem to be interested in bullying people into agreeing with your opinions.

                • Wow this is a perfect example of the reason developers don´t belong in sales. As a customer and gamer for over 3 decades i personally never experienced such a vast amount of disappointment in a product ever. The growing argumentation about how this is normal and should be accepted or maybe even we as a customerbase should be more thankful. I showed Destiny to a bunch of people who do not own it themselves but knew the hype. Most of them broke out in laughter. None but simple proclamations for the game and the flaws no adressing to problems but lame excuses and they even derive from the (questionable) fanbase. All points that were questioned are not even remotely answered or would calm the critics about the game. It´s plain simple - there is a market for products. If you´re doing worse than your concurrence charging more money from your customers for a product that actually "could" be finished someday you´ll just remind the customer side that there are alternatives. Simple as that.

                • I find your post more presumptuous than someone who is admittedly brainstorming / guessing as to the absurd amount of changes in the game vs. what was shown. Just because you have some experience in the industry it doesn't mean you know what's going on at Bungie anymore than anyone else. I appreciate your objective view from your experience - but at the end of the day you are also just guessing. Just because someone didn't like the game, such as myself, it doesn't mean they're being biased or unfair to the title. I've played the game extensively and it is just lacking. Totally wanting. The replay value just tanks too quickly. That opinion is MY opinion. I'm OK if you disagree with that, but I'm not OK with you talking down to me just because I do not share your same sentiment.

                  • To me this game is kinda like skyrim. The game had one story on it which was decent and then the dlc contained new realms and an entirely new story with new gear. This is how destiny's dlc will work and I am fine with that. I abandoned this story before I hit lvl 20 cause it was a little boring and I am hoping that the dlc will provide more entertainment. I love the repaid however and I am definately looking toward for the next one. Pvp is pretty fun as well. The game really isn't as bad as a lot of people think. I have 10 of my RL friends who play and I have met lots of new ones in the game, including one who actually live in The same city as me. If you don't like the story, be patient, do the raid with friends, meet new ones, and have some fun

                    • I hear you. I still have a problem with buying a product that was clearly in my opinion thrown together. Maybe they can get back on track story wise with the DLC, but I still feel burned that they didn't/ couldn't put time into at least making the story believable and compelling. The cutscenes do not fit each character. I do not need to know the end of the story, but I would have much preferred a better beginning.
