To start off: don't ever believe what DEVs say at the NerdCons. DEVs want to do things, but are only allowed to do/release what the marketing and legal departments allow. My best advice to all of you is to not watch/read any pre-release info about games because, whether it's printed or not, all is subject to change at any time in a virtual world. ...and don't cite "lore" because all that can be changed by the discovery of an Ancient Tome that corrects all we "know" from the "lore". Consider the source of this video - this part is just hating on the narrator so skip this part if you like him: This guy is clearly a gear whore, a PvP bully and a bit of a narcissist. He's a grinder who likes to have top-tier gear before other players can get it so he can dominate them. He believes that there is no place for casual gamers in his world. Listen to how the tone of his voice and choices of words change at around 21:00 in the video when he rants about the loot system. XD 97% of the video is of him running around killing people in PvP - heavily edited to show only one of his deaths. OFC, it's possible that he has a KDR of 1,164, but I doubt it. Like most of the idiots on YouTube he made a video that is unnecessary. He is guilty of doing what he complains about at the end of the video - he plays into our idiocy by making 35 minutes of pretty moving pictures (which have nothing to do with what he is saying) for us to look at when everything he said could be summed up in a few typed paragraphs. XD He is an elitist snob who believes himself to be a genius. This is evident at around 23:00 when he asserts that younger players wouldn't be able to comprehend an ingame economy and a "well-crafted, open world". This is also evident by his references to philosophy and earth history near the end of the video to demonstrate how enlightened he is. He also keeps referring to "hard evidence" when he actually means "circumstantial" evidence. Hard evidence would be emails between Bungie decision makers specifically saying what the narrator is alleging. He actually said: "Now look, I don't have the answers to any of these questions..." after he went on for 30 mins speculating on the answers and citing "hard evidence". It's like when Morpheus was always saying that you can't explain what the Matrix is, you have to find out for yourself, but then he went on to attempt to explain what the Matrix is. XD I won't even comment on the last three minutes other than to say hopefully he was trying to be funny. About the content of the video: Whining about DLC/Expansions being on the disks is old hat. We know many of the companies do it so we either get over it or send a message with our wallets. However few people will do that because most will rage internally or on the Internet and be lined up at the next midnight launch from the next title from the company who recently 'deceived' them. How do I know this is true? Because of the success of Diablo III. After many of the things Blizzard has done (most in WoW) they would be out of business if people put their money where their mouth is - I have and will never buy another Blizzard product as long as they are around. call END DIGRESSION I've seen many gaming houses fall because they didn't have enough revenue between titles so if gaming companies need to sell DLCs and/or expansions between 'major' titles I'm OK with that. I'm a bit on the fence about including and locking expansions on the main release disks because on the one hand it's cheesy at best (as the narrator of the video discusses), but on the other hand game DEVs need to think ahead. When they are near completing game_title_here_1 they should have most of the ideas for game_title_here_2 already formed and be brainstorming/spitballing ideas for game_title_here_3. If my beliefs are true then DEVs might have content created beyond the current title and including it on the release disk(s) keeps their costs down and gives them one fewer excuse for "rising costs" which they pass on to us. <.< The narrator uses a lot of strong language referring to how bad Destiny's story is. Again, follow my advice in paragraph 1 and you won't have lofty expectations based on what DEVs want. The truth of the matter is that the story is not bad. It's mysterious and has holes that I'm willing to give Bungie time to fill. I will admit that the story is very short and for that Bungie should be criticized. It's so short, in fact, that I've advised at least one friend of mine not to buy it just yet. The reason I suspect it's so short is because they are counting on PvP to carry Destiny - at least until they expand on the story. The narrator says that we should assume the worst because Bungie isn't answering his questions that he claims are shared by the community. Maybe we should assume that Bungie is building a story for us to discover a little bit at a time. I'm not a shill for any company, but I am willing to give them a chance before I shell them. As for Bungie omitting or delaying the gambling/trading: there is is a chance they are trying to figure out a way to stop RMTs because if items can be traded they can be sold for real-world money and Bungie is either trying to find a way to prevent it or figure out a way to get a piece of the action. Here's a hint: you will never stop RMTs. XD The narrator claims that Rare and Legendary Sparrows and spacecraft are pointless. Rare/Legendary Sparrows are faster so you can get past skirmishing enemies with less damage if you don't want to fight them. Also, there is the vanity factor. As of now Rare and Legendary Spacecraft are vanity items, but it's possible that Bungie has plans for space combat and/or free flying in space in which case higher speed/durability would be a factor. The narrator complained about the "T" rating comparing it to Halo's "M" rating. He lumped CoD and GTA into a group of games that he claimed "are not even that violent" and likened them to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I haven't played a recent CoD, but I have played a recent GTA and it's plenty violent. :| Bungie is suspect for the "T" rating and I noticed early on that there is no blood when we kill what seem to be organisms. Clearly the Hex are robotic, but the other three factions seem to be organisms, yet when you headshot them (yes, I've actually been able to do that a couple of times) a gaseous vapor is emitted as if we just destroyed a steam punk creation. o.O If Bungie is pandering to a younger audience, which I, too, suspect they are then they deserve criticism on this point as well. If they made the game more complex then younger players might actually try to learn more instead of shying away from it. Even if Bungie alienated younger players I'm sure they wouldn't go broke if they lost that market segment. :| Plus, they would definitely get their initial purchase because kids flock to the "M" games and their parents don't pay any attention to the M. XD On his complaint about our inability to blow up drop ships: he blames a conspiracy because of hardware communism (dumbing down the framerate to match the weakest hardware). That's possible, but it's also possible that Bungie didn't allow it because then you'd have idiots posting videos of defeating bosses in 17 seconds, Bungie would nerf rocket launchers and then we'd bitch about that. As it is now we can't blow up the ships, but we can fire rockets at the Fallen's troop transports and blow the passengers up as they are sliding down those arms - I'm sure Bungie will 'fix' that. <.< In summation: Most of what the narrator says is speculation based on his 'vast' knowledge. Destiny is good enough for me to give Bungie time to expand on it. If they boot it totally then I will never buy another Bungie product as long as they are around...or at least I won't buy it at release and will wait for at least one price drop. :P

 • I thought I was the only one who hoped the last 3 minutes of his video were a joke. Had to stop it because I was laughing so hard XD. He made a lot of interesting points, but again it's all circumstantial. There isn't any hard evidence for his theories, and I don't think there ever will be. Still, a lot if people are giving Destiny a whole lot of hate. For $60, what shipped on disc was still pretty damn good. Gunplay is tight, PvE has raids (everything else tends to get boring pretty quickly grind-wise), PvP is pretty damned fun, and the gear is nice. 100+ hours in a game means it's doing something right. The main story is eh, but the lore is great (the Vault of Glass stuff is craaaaaaazy). As for the changes between what was first shown/hinted at and what the final product is, that happens to nearly every game. All the on disc stuff is whatever. If it was a finished product, it would be in the damned game. It's just the groundwork for what's to come. And what's to come seems like it's gonna be pretty damn good, so don't put Destiny down just yet.

 • I think the people who make it their calling to defend this piece of Shit, utter disappointment, excuse of a game, must either be PR Hacks hired by Bungie to try and save their lazy asses, or the kind of people who remember fondly the time their Uncles put his Dick in their Asses. Sorry, if the rest of us don't get off on being Abused! : )

 • It's not a "calling". I watched one video and made comments. I don't get off being abused, but, if I did, I'd have an orgasm from the personal attack replies here. I'm neither a PR hack nor an incest survivor, but: good guess.

 • I find it interesting that this video is being passed around so much. I do feel that it's fairly telling that a lot of the community feels something is off about this game and not just a vocal minority.

 • What you say is true. Mostly I am surprised at the gaps in the game. Bungie did an amazing job with Halo. If the reports are true about the intended storyline, it would have been epic. It's too bad. For me, while I have logged well over 100 hours, I don't know that I enjoyed the game. The gaps left me disheartened. I am (truly) glad you enjoy the game though.

 • I suspect I'd be more disappointed had I viewed preview stuff that apparently belied what the released version is. :\ I suspect that's why I avoid preview stuff and just judge games based on what they are.

 • I've seen better. I wouldn't call it "denial" just yet. As I mentioned, in my original post: I'm willing to give Bungie time to improve or f*** Destiny up.

 • I agree with you strongly on all points... except this one:
The truth of the matter is that the story is not bad.
In its current state, regardless of what will or will not be added in the future, the story in Destiny is objectively bad, and no amount of additions will change that. Explanations of and elaborations on intentionally withheld information will not fix a failed attempt at rising action or conclusion, or a complete and total lack of any character development, or the unconvincing acting or the unsubstantial, porous dialogue. The lore may very well be expanded and made more and more interesting later on, but the plot, characters and impact/usage of said lore within the narrative can't be fixed without a complete rewrite. Despite the fact that stories are often regarded as subjective art (which they are), there is also a very basic storytelling structure to which they must adhere to be objectively good. Destiny's story did not do that. My Little Pony has better plot structure.
The lore may very well be expanded and made more and more interesting later on, but the plot, characters and impact/usage of said lore within the narrative can't be fixed without a complete rewrite.
Sad, but true. I honestly don't ever expect this story to become internally consistent, let alone compelling. The game has many fine points, and I really like shooting Dregs in the mouth, but the plot, dialog, and the conceptual linkages between the narrative and the game mechanics are, to put it bluntly, barely worthy of a Harlequin Romance offering. 20 chapters of wharrblgarrbl tacked onto a gameworld that blatantly contradicts most of it isn't something you can "fix" by releasing a second volume.
Unless the Vex go back in time at the end of the Black Garden mission, change history, and Destiny 2 starts out with our characters back in the trunk of a car outside the Cosmodrome. I could write that fix (Probably not in time for the release, but I could knock out a decent outline and workable dialog), and the gameplay leading up to the BG wouldn't have to change at all. 95% of the dialog/story from the initial release would have to be written off as an alternate timeline though, and good riddance.
• You don't think the withheld information can be 'fixed'? The main character was awakened/resurrected after being dead for a "long time" so we won't know too much and would have to experience it. People (NPCs) may be paranoid and not willing to share info with us so it may take time for us to discover WTF is going on. Stories in video games are similar to stories in printed media, but not exactly the same since games are interactive and more fluid so the storytelling can seem like crap in the beginning and work itself out. Sadly, you are probably right though and Destiny may be doomed. If what the narrator of the video says is true about the lead creative person leaving then Bungie is in trouble. They need to do whatever he/she wants to get him/her back because I seriously doubt his/her departure was amiable - Bungie has probably f***ed themselves.

 • The lead writer did leave, it was reported on every major gaming site. They trashed his story and put it in the form Grimoire Cards. This game will never ever add the narrative that was butchered from the game. Bungie dug themselves into a hole they cannot get out of by getting in bed with the wrong company!!! There is no defending the company and the game. By todays standards of gaming, in what has already been done, Destiny lacks in every concept it tries to compete in.

 • To the maker of the video, if you don't have the goods to show me, and you're just speculating, you could at least have some POSITIVE sides. Being only negative is biased, and biased information is for fools and idiots. I've seen these "fully dressed areas" from friends glitching in, (no I will NOT glitch to see them, I don't want a ban.) and the areas are Unfinished, Unpopulated, and they are in NO WAY done. Come on. Haven't any of ya'll heard of placeholders???
