That means the third person was outside of the boss fight zone. In other words, when you were trying to use the easy way to beat it, that third player was too far back so he wasn't counted as in the zone. Thus since every player in the boss fight zone died, you were reset.

Edited by burritosenior: 10/23/2014 2:49:06 PMThe room you hide in to cheat the boss is outside the area unless you are right up against the wall next to the Shrieker. So yes, he was out of the fighting area because otherwise it wouldn't have reset you. If you even take a few steps backwards from there you are outside.
