Imo the Nightfall are always easier because of the extra damage modifiers. It Sucks you got a crap roll but such is Destiny. Maybe you can use those coins to buy a nice piece from Xur.

That sucks. I got a legendary sniper I already had so 2 energy, a legendary chest that I would never use so 2 shards, and on my 3rd character The Last Word. So all in all not bad. If it wasn't for that 3rd character though, it would have been bad.
