i thought "Girl Gamer" was her name. I only read the OP because I'm a male & was curious about what a female had to say. all the shit comments that had nothing to do with the OP really made me look @ the Destiny community in a different light. nobody cares if someone has a #female user name, but if they state their gender in a thread title, it's the end of the world. would she get the same reaction if it said "Boy Gamer" or "Old Gamer"? how about if it said "Handicapped Gamer"? would you call any of them out? would you flood the thread with garbage like this one? you "men" are pathetic. I hope the gaming community changes before my daughter is old enough to play. the idea that people would be so horrible to her for labeling herself a "Girl Gamer" breaks my heart. I have Grandmothers, a Mother, Sisters, Nieces & a Daughter. I give them every bit of respect I can, even if I don't agree with what they are doing/saying/ect. -- on topic: I'm pretty bad at PvP & all my drops are Rustburner armor. #merp

  • I only read the OP because I'm a male & was curious about what a female had to say. What the actual fck lol. Why should a female think differently or what relevance has someones gender when discussing a topic? This is not a woman clothing or make-up forum where girls have the obvious upper hand or something...

Her being a female should be omitted because a disabled, young, old, male, female, gamer has nothing to do with the validity of what she says or her opinions. If anything, posting she's a female was bait to attract people who would talk shit. It was an unnecessary detail that was for no other purpose than to gather extra attention-- and she got it. Both good and bad. It's like when people in the military talk about BF4 and CoD as if their military experience means anymore to others in a VIDEO GAME.

Depends. If they use 'Handicapped gamer' and the thread is actually about a feature that would enhance their gaming experience, then yes, it's legit. Old gamer COULD be legit if comparing the olden days to now. Boy or girl is really not that useful. There is no real difference in gaming experience. I used to run GoW with a team that had a girl. She was one of the most hardcore, foulmouthed players I've ever met online. She would swear non stop at the enemy, us, herself, the game, anything at all. Just like the rest of us guys.

  • Recently there's been a influx of forum threads with the title if "im a girl gamer" or something similar to that. Some of them talking about game related things and some made by other users mocking women. So with that many are quite tired of he threads being made in general. My issue with them is that gender doesn't need to even be brought up when making a forum topic. If you have a good idea and discussion then post it, male or female if its good people will respond.

  • Being identified as only a gamer is asinine though isn't it? Aren't we all unique? I like being able to see someone else's point of view and see why they maybe have that point of view. The OP was analytical and intuitive. It bolsters scientific discovery on how the male and female brains work. It was cool to see that in action. I personally read as many articles/forum posts as I can where the author or OP identifies themselves. It's amazing to see how who and what they are affects their opinions. If people are tired of it...isn't it much easier to just not reply and move on? Of course it is.

  • I don't see it that way, I see all people in this forum as gamers not male gamer or female gamer. When I bother to reply to people in this forum I show respect just as most here does the same. If someone attempts to insult me I mute them since internet arguments are beneath me. Male vs female perspective is irrelevant to me in regards to what this topic is about. To me its no different than the other rng discussions that has taken place in this forum. Does the OP make good points, yes but so has many others before.

I don't see why you find it irrelevant. It's completely relevant. Identities are relevant. Did you ever stop to think why you had someone drop from a raid that might have gone on longer than expected? Could it have been time for Salat? Could the person asking people to tone down the cursing have children? Could the poster be basing their opinions on their religion, race, gender or sexual orientation? Are you not curious? Do you only want to be identified as a gamer? Is this not one of the few communities where differences should be embraced and not denigrated? Do you not remember being a child and a gamer and being told that being a gamer was going to get you nowhere. As if being a gamer was the one thing that defines who you are? I get that you're probably female. I won't say I'm suprised at your opinions though since the while "girl gamer" thing has been blasted left and right. Wouldn't you like to see that change though? I'd love to identify as a "dad gamer". The OP identifying as female is no different than you having MS in your gamer tag. If you feel the way you do why isn't your name non gender specific? I'm not disparaging you, I promise. Merely making a point.

  • In regards to posting in a forum all of those things doesn't matter to me. I honestly can see how for some it does but not for me. When reading about someone's bad raid I don't stop to think about the things you just listed I'm only reading their experience and afterwards ill leave an opinion or two. I don't get to personal with forum posts. As for the gaming community, this isn't the first one I been part of. Female gamers are always ridiculed (mostly by younger males who are easy to ignore) but it's nothing I care much about since it's never stopped me from voicing my opinion on things. Would it be cool to identify my gender when posting sometimes, sure but in honesty even if it was accepted id most likely not do it. Not because of fear of being ridiculed but to the fact stated before I don't see gender in these forums. As for my username, its the same as my psn which was made years ago in my mid teens. When moving from xbl my friends an I were thinking of a catchy username and we came with this one. I liked it and used it ever since.

  • Your opinion and views on the matter are interesting and nice to say the least. It would be nice to know the player/person/gamer behind the username.....were this not a forum thread. I don't care who or what you are, as long as your points are valid and i can argue them in any manner should i feel the need to do so. As far as discussions go, stating your gender beforehand adds nothing to the argument if the argument itself has nothing to do with your gender. Hence the nerd rage, from myself as well, about the OP identifying as a 'Girl Gamer', which in itself could be deemed an attention seeking title. I don't know any gamers, who are male, who self-identify as 'Guy Gamer'. Probably because most people can tell by their voice.

  • Like I said though...where's the nerd rage over names. Mr, Mrs, Ms, Miss, man, guy, dude, d00d and the thousands of other identifyers you find in gamer tags and forum names. Why stop there? Why not get all raged up over avatars as well. You know the male and female avatars. Gender is a part of who we are. Why get upset over it? If her tag was littlemissfluffybunnykins she would have been identifyable as female, right? Would there have been all the hate then? Nope. Why? I'm truly curious. If it were a guy and his tag were mrillfukyouup he would have been identified as male, right? All this bashing for no reason is BS. We need to be better than that don't you think?

  • Using it in a title is different. A name is for your identity. A thread is not, this person put that portion in the title for attention, and that is the difference.

  • Again if her name was IsitToPee she would have been identified as a female poster regardless, right? What you're saying makes no sense. If you don't like gender identity in the forums then all names need to be gender neutral. I apologize if I'm coming across as rude. My back is -blam!-ing killing me and it's 230 in the morning here.

  • You're fine. Identity isn't the problem I'm trying to point out, it's that it was put in the title of a topic that it isn't related to. If you wanted to know why she thought what she does, you could've asked, but it's unrelated to the topic. It should've been left out, it was clearly put in for the sake of attention.
